    The two watches are made in the same factory. Each brand owner specifies detail, and the brand owner who purchases the most watches will get a better price. I own two San Martin watches, and three Heimdallr. For the price difference there is very little in it

    Ordered and am waiting for the San Martin(black) Sub V2 - want to compare it with my No Date Sub - $8,100(with tax) to a $225(with tax) upscale homage. Thought about throwing in a Parnis but that would be unfair to the max.

      Have had both watches for some time now and both are great. The fit and finish on the Rolex is superior in every way but just, the brushed surfaces are satin smooth and the polished areas are perfect. The San Martin(SM) is just a grade below all area look good but feel a bit less refined. The dial on the Rolex shows no imperfections with the SM the is a small printing error in the 'S' and 'a' of San. The lume is identical in brightness and longevity. The Roles is 0 SPD in accuracy out of the box, the SM was +20 SPD and I regulated it to +4 on a timegrapher. The bracelets are very similar with the clasps being different. The Rolex 'glidelock' is very smooth and allows on the fly adjustments. The SM milled clasp is well above most Chinese watches that I have, it is comfortable with micro adjustments. I can see no difference in the crystals, the Rolex is a no date and the SM has a cyclops which appears to be in the 2.5 range(works as expected). The Rolex is 300m and the SM 200m WR which means nothing to me as I don't dive - both should offer great daily water protection. The Rolex total cost was $8,033.00US with tax and I expect it to hold value or increase. The SM was $209.00US. I wear the SM daily and rarely wear the Rolex(special nights out which are few this year). It's hard to see the $8,000 difference once you get past the homage factor, a few more dollars in the SM with a better movement, QC on the printing and original design and it would be hard to justify the Swiss brands. Other micros are doing it and get great reviews. I'm glad I own both. P.S. Waiting on the SM titanium 'B' pilot watch. Arrived in country today so just the USPS to deliver.

  • @stevew4302
    @stevew4302 Před 3 lety

    Great review! The 3 lines of text at the bottom (including the 1000ft=300m line like a real Sub) looks so much better, I just wish it said something other than “water resistant”, which just sounds cheap to me for some reason. I also love a decorated rehaut, but the etching looks cheap compared to a proper engraving and I don’t love the Heimdallr name or logo so having it repeated isn’t great. A few tweaks there and it would be a lot more tempting. Even if those were improved, it’s still hard to argue when you look at the lume, clasp, and bezel, which I hope is consistent across all the SMs.
    One thing that’s interesting to me is that the round marker at 12 looks too big on the Heimdallr relative to the triangle while the SM seems to be a better size. The larger one is true to the real Sub, though, and I never noticed it before until looking at these two side by side.

  • @donpedrodestuttgart5165

    As far as I know both Heimdallr and SanMartin are produced at the same factory. Is my info right or wrong? And if you compare the two watches I also want to have a look on the price. SanMartin is much more expensive than Heimdallr.

  • @karlsenula9495
    @karlsenula9495 Před 4 lety +2

    Everyone seems to have an issue with the large size of the Pagani Hulk Submariner ... curiously I don't. I don't know if it is because my wrist is 7.5 or because I don't have multiple Submariner homages in various sizes to compare it to.
    Now I do get that the quality control of the San Martin, Heimdallr, Steinhart etc. Are better than Pagani but their prices are also significantly higher so I would expect the quality to be spot on.

    • @karlsenula9495
      @karlsenula9495 Před 4 lety +1

      @@watchmegobroke4365 agree and other brands (like the two in the video) have progressed the homages and filled that niche (Pagani seems to have moved on from the Submariner homage - i.e. they have made 40mm but in different styles - but agree that a 40mm Hulk Submariner would be better .. that and improve the lum) but at the time it came out it was a great spec watch (even at the large size) especially for the price.

      @Noggsy joggsy watches I'm not at the Rolex level yet but have the aforementioned 43mm Hulk Pagani, Casio Duro, Vostok Amphibian, and the Parnis GMT (similar water rating as the Pagani), around the holidays I am also going to pick up the Steeldive or Heimdallr Captain Willard. Thereafter it will be a Zelos, Helm and the Bronze San Martin I mentioned. Idea is to have a mix of styles and looks.

    • @karlsenula9495
      @karlsenula9495 Před 4 lety

      @Noggsy joggsy watches I liked the 200m water resistance of the Amphibia (I got the blue submarine and put it on an orange silicone strap - in the holidays I may also get the Antarctica caseback) but i also own a komandirskie which is also cool for its kitsch styles. Apparently they are all easy to self regulate, easy to mod and very rugged.
      They also make some other cool styles - in particular I've seen a cool full dial lum version and a nice GMT version. Check out meranom's website (many are not available right now due to the corona virus) but then look on Ebay for cheaper and faster delivery.

    I enjoyed your review. Personally, the things you're giving extra points to the Heimdallr for over the San Martin are the exact reasons why I'd take away points from the Heimdallr. The older Rolex dials had less text, looked very clean and there was no engraving on the rehaut. So, from a homage perspective, the San Martin is closer to the original subs of yesteryear. But this is your channel and you will say whatever you want, misguided or otherwise. That's part of your charm. I have this particular San Martin and I have to say, that lume kicks butt, even with watches costing 10 times the price. It's crazy. This watch does everything I need and looks great. It really looks great on a dark green perlon strap and is very comfortable that way during the summer months.
    Thanks for taking the time.

The pin and collar of the Heimdallr is a nightmare. There is an ugly gap between the bracelet and the end link of the Heimdallr. The lume of the San Martin is way better. Nice try Heimdallr.
