The man is holding two golden globes and a slew of Oscars at home yet must endure the stupidity of an uninformed “journalist” posing as a film know it all. I love seeing Alfonso school him. Viva Roma, truly a masterpiece.

Answering to the guy who threw the last question: by saying that Roma's release out of theaters (on Netflix) is the death of independent cinema you are implying that independent cinema has to be released in a small, unsuccessful way to what? to thrive? Seriously? It just does not make any sense. We all want good cinema to do well and to reach us viewers. Netflix does that. Do not overcomplicate things. I for one appreciate that good cinema elevates Netflix content and that I do not have to drive miles away to watch it. Congratulations to Cuarón by the way. I loved Roma and he is right: this movie released only in theaters would not have been as successful as it has been through Netflix.
Roma is a beautiful film. Not your average hollywood movie. Glad he won over Bradley Cooper, a famous singers, and a great actor, which he is.

MEXICOOOOOOOO!!!! Bring that Foreign Language Film Oscar home, Alfonso, and a bunch of others too! Mexico has never won Best Foreign Film. We must reward these geniuses not only for their English-language "commercial films" but also the Spanish-language films from the heart. Time to award Mexico, the country that made these brilliant three filmmakers who they are.
This is amazing! This guy is fighting for all independent filmmakers with the example. There is no question, Roma is the best movie, but what this movie represents for cinema is much more. Cuaron is trying to unite the distribution methods and its fighting really hard. Cuaron I really wish you the best, we need more people like you.
This is a victory for a genius filmmaker as well as the future of modern cinema reconciling theatrical and home distribution. After Gravity, Cuarón could’ve made whatever he wanted. He could’ve taken the easy route and directed a typical blockbuster for a major studio yet he chose to go to Netflix where they would not interfere with his vision.

Cuaron is amazing! 🤗 Well deserved win. I’m an American currently living in Mexico City and in fact currently living in “Colonia Roma” where this movie and his childhood took place. After seeing the movie which I was blown away by (the simplicity and yet complexity of Cleo’s character, the beautiful cinematography and the amazing attention to detail to recreate Mexico/Roma in 1970s), I took a walk by the house where he grew up-the one that appears in the film.
This movie made me cry... the more I watch it the more emotional I get
one more step to the Oscar
