Story:
Drama Serial Maat is based on a novel by Umer Ahmed. Story showed sibling rivalry. Saman (Saba Qamar) and Aiman (Amina Shaikh). Saman is greedy and outspoken girl who wants to marry someone rich someday. Aiman, is a simple girl who would marry wherever her parents say. Saman rejects a proposal of her cousin who is in love with her because he is poor so his mother asks for Aiman’s proposal which was his mother’s first choice. The story starts taking an interesting twist as Saman’s brother in law (the cousin who proposed to her) gets rich.

So i have watched this drama over and over. Here is my opinion who the real villains and heroes are.
Villains
1. Faisal: I think we all agree that Faisal was the greatest villain. A man so selfish that he married that girl’s sister who he had been engaged to for so many years, fully knowing that Aiman loved him so much and had no shame in marrying her sister. Then he was so selfish that he kept on walking over his mother’s wishes and forgiving Saman’s problematic actions so that he can keep her happy. And All that because he was after Saman’s beauty. When he was getting divorce, he cried and said “main kabhi kisi ka bura nhi kiya” when this evil guy literally just crushed aiman again and again. After she got married to him, he didn’t even respect that she sacrificed so much and tried to cage her so that she doesn’t behave like saman. And Aiman argued so beautifully that before signing divorce, he didn’t even think about her and threw away all her love, time, sacrifices that she did for him and building their family so that he could get Saman back.
He represents the men who are only after beauty instead of quality of a woman, and his karma was that he got beautiful woman but lost all the beauty in his life- his son that he loved(who left him like he left aiman), his reputation (that was crushed by saman twice), the loving wife. Cant enjoy that perfect old life and Saman aint gonna take care of his ill health.
2. Saman : she was the second biggest villain. She was very cunning (not intelligent but cunning) and very social and always thought about “just her”. She left her sister to marry her fiancee, her family for that stupid friend Munazza, faisal for Aazar. Mostly she is a villain because she abandoned her own son and then had the audacity to come back and claim she was his mother and he should accept her.
She represents the type of woman who are after money instead of building family and respecting blood relations. Her karma was she had no family at the end, had money but nothing to enjoy it for, rich husband (Aazar) but he didn’t divorce his second wife, 2nd rich husband (faisal) who hated her, no friends because they knew about her, no reputation, no hadid nothing.
3. Aazar- like faisal who represents men after beauty but the difference is unlike faisal, he was very conscious about his family and reputation. Faisal didn’t care who thinks of him like he said “lok bhool jaate hein” but Aazar didn’t divorce his first wife, got Saman from Faisal and didn’t hurt his reputation much. Can’t say much for karma but I guess his early death speaks a lot since he basically destroyed 3 houses (aiman’s , faisal’s and his wife’s). So he had the most bad karma on his side.
4. Aiman’s mom: she was a villain because she kept enabling Saman and always sacrificed Aiman for Saman’s problems. Rejecting her marriage proposals because she was busy in solving matters between saman and faisal etc etc. If she was a good mother, she would have never agreed to marriage between faisal and saman no matter what. Not even if aiman told her to agree, she just shouldn’t have.
A person who is enabling someone by just being a bystander is equally guility as the person committing crime.
Category 2 Heroes but kinda stupid
1. Aiman - she represents the type of woman who are very pure hearted, gets happiness from seeing others happy and always wanna help everyone because that what makes them feel content. However the downside of that is that people won’t respect you at all and would take your kindness for granted. She sacrificed herself for faisal, for saman, her marriage to save saman’s marriage, 25 years for faisal without thinking any consequences. That makes her stupid but she is a hero because she did everything with good intentions and invested all her love in Hadid who turned out be so great and her old age was finally peaceful because all the kindness she radiated in her life, came back to her thorough her son, her daughter in law and their kids who all loved her very much.
And she didn’t need one selfish person in her life at the end (her mom, faisal and aiman) to take care of her.
To the people who say its Saman who did maat to aiman because she enjoyed her youth while aiman was in a cage with faisal, I disagree with that. No use if you gonna spend next 20-25 years of your old age in pain with nobody to take care of, no happiness coz of you have no family or friends, husband. Aiman really won at the end because she got everything by losing everything.
2. Aazar’s wife- she was dumb because she didn’t realize her husband’s intentions from the start and even stick with him after he married saman just because she had nobody to take care of “their kids”. She represents the type of woman who silently bear their husband’s mistakes and try to hide them. (Saman didn’t do it, Aiman did it for 25 years but realized eventually). They are fearful of their future in this male dominated society. And never leave their comfort zone. She is not a hero but just stupid and very real life example of how many women in domestic households are who never speak for their rights.
Category 3- real heroes
1. Naureen- lets be honest, she was the damn hero from the start. She was a great friend, stayed with aiman till the very end. She could analyze saman and faisal very easily without even meeting them and was not emotional like aiman. She was emotionally intelligent and is the real hero.
2. Hadid- hadid is only man who did right in the entire serial because he didn’t let the curiosity of his birth mom cloud his love and judgement for Aiman(his real mom ). Like naureen he was also very emotionally intelligent and could see right through the bullshit that Aiman and Faisal was feeding into his brain. He respected other’s feelings who loved him so much (Aiman) and didn’t leave them for materialistic desires and happiness. So he was the real hero nd represents the type of men who respects the values and quality of a woman instead of any other thing.
Few people love to watch, but you’ve observed this show eloquently, putting all these such points in a way, you’re my hero for this.

Fought with saman, faisal, aiman’s mom, tried to steer Aazar’s wife on right path by showing her the truth and could read Aazar’s intentions towards Saman very well when he came to the dinner for the very frst time. Her only fault was that she loved her son so much and even loved Aiman so much that she pictured this small utopia in her head that Aiman could fix Faisal not realizing how much hurt they both were at that stage. Thats her fault: expecting a woman to fix a man lol who she knows very well is rotten inside

These two actresses just nailed their positive n negative characters...they r beyond perfection.. Maat,one of the best drama
Faisal is a real bastard. I can't believe after all those years he just threw away his family for that disgusting woman. And then he tried to turn mother and son against each other by lying about Aiman and convincing Aiman that Hadeed wanted his biological mother back. I wish the show went on long enough to see Faisal lose everything because of his and Saman's greed. He was only able to succeed because he had the love and unwavering support of Aiman.
No need to loose wealth to be punished at old age. Losing their son already made them lost themselves. Life has no meaning now for them without family

Aiman waited 25 years for justice. Faisal and saman played with everyone’s feelings manipulating everyone in the way. Hadeed put his so called ‘parents’ in their place in 5 minutes. 👏🏼
Faisal is so disgusting, after everything that Aiman has done for him, he's leaving her just like that because Sanam is helpless and only coming to him because she doesn't have anyone. I'm so glad they were defeated in the end and Hadeed didn't accept them and finally Aiman had a voice for herself! Great ending.

I had watched this series about 7-8 years back. A few days ago i remembered it and watched it all over again.
What a crisp, apt potrayal of life. Brilliant actors, superb storyline and casting.
I am very fond of Pakistani series, not degrading my own Indian series (except the Sasu Bahu ones) but this is definetly by far, much much superior. Hats Off!

The thing I love the most about this drama is the title Maat. It can have two means; to lose and checkmate. Basically one can lose at a game of life and check mate can also mean to lose but also mate means partner, which can mean even with your partner you can even lose in life. This was one of the most addicting drama serials I have ever watched and I love the powerful message to not sacrifice yourself for people around you because people will betray your kindness because of their selfishness
There couldn’t have been a better ending. Good thing Aiman didn’t forgive Faisal, she let him go and live with Saman because they deserve each other. Aiman’s son is enough for her, she has her family and she’s happy.

Faisal is one of those characters who are born losers because they do not know what to make out of life. they hold on to their pasts and they are confused and ungrateful. A beautiful end to such a wonderful drama. nothing is more saddening than loneliness. perfect lesson taught by hadeed.

PURE NOSTALIGA. This was one of the finest ending and superb story.
Aiman told her sister " this is check mate" but in reality, Aiman lost everything. Saman enjoyed her youth and has fixed her old age too. Her son can't stay away from the father and mother for long. He will meet them after some time. Aiman's life was wasted. She was just a maid without a pay. Sad ending.

No, not atall. Sanam never remain satisfied. Even if she had a perfect family with Faisal and Hadeed she would have been searching a more perfect life.And is not that type of guy. He already kept his words for 6/7 years and certainly he would never meet

Saman was materialistic while aiman valued people...She got Hadeed which was her biggest treasure ..so she won in life
Aiman didn't lose anything; indeed she surely sacrificed a lot in life including her youth, but she maintained great family relationships and lived a life full of dignity, love, respect and care from others. Saman threw all those things in pursuit of material wealth and a "perfect life" and undermined Aiman's prospects. She didn't realize close relationships are more important and should be treasured dearly. Saman lives in a glamorous squalor with no one to live for except Faisal - who despises her. As she puts it best: her house is as silent as a graveyard with no life . Now, Aiman in her later years lives in peace and happiness with Hadeed, her grandchild and others.

Such an unpredictable episode. Mujhe laga Faisal ne Aiman k pyaar ko accept kar lia hoga, uske sacrifices ka ehsaas ho gaya hoga usey....but wo selfish nikla. He couldn't move on and cheated on poor Aiman for 27 yrs. I feel sorry for Aiman.
What a wonderful Dramma. Omg. Darawana bhi. Jindagi ki Haqeeqat samane aayi. But thank God for the nice end. Samman and Faisal deserve this. All have acted so so well. What a direction ,dilouges. Everything. Never be able to forget the Dramma and this title song which I always liston in my car. Humsafer and Mere qatil mere dildar also fabulous drammas. 👍👍👍

In the beginning, some people try to appear that everything about them is in black and white, until later their true cloures come out. So when you have to find who are real ones then look at their hearts not face beauty. So behave real, stay real, stay loyal. Then you will win the hearts and all will love you back. And treat your parents with kindness, they are precious gifts like Dimonds and never will come back again when they live this fake world.

An extremely thought provoking series with a very sensitive depiction of human values!!
We do utmost disservice to our children when we keep appreciating one's giving nature and let the other one have her way everytime. This way the giving child learns to never value oneself and the other child learns to never share anything. One grows up with the Atlas identity and the other with the princess syndrome. Both remain unhappy as adults too till they learn to balance their selves.

What a beautiful ending I feel so happy for Aiman she really deserved to be happy for once, n for people like Saman there's a lesson in this drama, if we look around us there a r such selfish people who would go to any extent to destroy others for their selfish desires
