Yay I can bring two of my friends
You guy are at 111 now. You are killing it.
Fab Rats😅
Accepted…. Sorry my ocd! Lol
your at 185 now!
Before I even start watching, I want to say that I have been waiting and waiting for you to do something with this rig. I'm 71 years old and can still remember my Dad having one when I was 10. I absolutely love this Willy.
my grandpa had a red one just like this, I believe it was a 56 my grandpa had, we used to go hunting in it all the time, he eventually parked it in the garage because it had a leaky tank, (I think it may have been just the filler neck possibly) and it needed a carb clean and basic tune up, he sold it for a few hundred bucks after nobody in the family had much interest, I was a young teen at the time and didn't know much I absolutely should have saved it, my gramp passed away 2 or 3 years after selling it and made me wish even more that I saved it!! at least i still have the good memories of him letting me drive it as a kid on the old back roads here in the mountains
😊that is stababacker overdrive u it
Me too.
@@caseyrenner7024You should hunt for it around town, and see if you can find old family pictures with it in them to post online, and see if you can buy it back.
My dad, fresh back from the war, bought a used Willys station wagon in maroon and tan, which we called the Golden Nugget. After driving it for awhile he traded it in on a brand new one of these - which we called the Gray Ghost. This is so much like it it could be the same one, somehow migrated from New York, to Utah. It's the right color and everything. I learned to drive in it. We tried to outrace a semi going downhill with it once, and beat it - by a cat's whisker. To date that is the scaredest I've ever been -- because we either beat it or were smooshed on the grill of the other semi coming downhill the other way meeting us at the bottom.
So you guys treat 'er right, just in case it is the same one. Or anyway just because she's worthy!
Paul quote of the day: “If a little is good, a lot is better!”
I personally appreciated his use of technical terms such as flywheel cranky thing....
My favorite quote from this video was “get the sawzall”😂
Your Mom is fantastic staying in tune with your projects. Very graceful lady.
Just before we married, my husband bought an old Willys Jeep pickup. It was a 194?. It had a blade you could put on the front for pushing snow or whatever. The problem with that was that it ran off hydraulics. When he would be going up hill the blade would start dropping and sometimes start scrapping the ground. Lol he kept it that winter then got rid of it an bought a Bronco. That is when our what we use to call 4 wheeling started. Oh we had so much fun. That is why I have said that you guys remind me of my husband. Have fun, life is to short.
I love watching your crew refurbish old vehicles for everyday use. I never owned anything but old used till I was in my 50s. Everything I owned had to be worked on to get it road worthy. Your videos take me back to a simpler time when all you needed was a set of wrenches, an old shade tree, and a nearby salvage yard for parts.
Any day that starts with a 40 minute FabRats video is a great start to the day.
In 1970 I took my wife of 52 years on our first date. 53 willys wagon, flathead v8. In about a foot of snow, back roads for miles. What a great rig.. That 283 would work great for normal use...
The Willys Wagon was introduced in 1946 but was not available in 4wd until it received the “hurricane” in 1949. The rounded back wheel well, flat fenders and flat grill were 46-49 and the 1950 got sort of squared rear fender wells and pointed grill as well as a point on the front of the fenders. I like all the willys wagons
Thank you guys for doing what you do and taking us along
Paul I’m happy to see that you have taken the event serious . In my opinion your choice of build is respectfully, a good candidate .. going to be a great build . Always great content to fab rat crew .. we watch every episode !! Cheers
Facil expressions during test drives are priceless. Keep having g fun for us to watch
Paul, my name is also Paul. I am 66 years old and from the Appalachian mountains of East Tennessee. I do enjoy your channel. On the jeep, I figure if the frame stands and the body stays on. Hey, you are good to go. I have a lot of appreciation for the sound of the old Tow truck engine.
East Tennessee. Flatt and Scruggs country. Love that music.
@@LuckyBaldwin777 Thank you
Aren’t you forgetting a project? Robbie is rubbing off on you
Paul I’m definitely excited for this build for sure!!! I am a really big fan of the older willys jeeps, wagons, and anything that was a willys!!! I think they was one of the coolest vehicles back in the day!! You just can not beat an old flat fender Willy’s for sure!!!!
I have a soft spot for early power wagons 😍
I’m so glad to see you guys working on my dad‘s old jeep. I have so many memories of cruising around the Boulder and the Thousand Lake in that old Willies. Great job, keep up the fantastic work! Dale would be pretty proud.
I had a '56 and a '60 Willys wagon and loved them. Really dig this build.
I think Paul “ACCEPTED” a challenge from Robby to see who can start the most projects😂
And never finish them. 😂
The cow milkers challenge
Right?!!! Michelle’s Jeep keeps being put on the back burner
Gotta do something when you’re waiting on parts
@@lauriethiboutot6971 and the rollback.
I don't know about the jeep wagon but that Studebaker 4x4 would be a very interesting rock crawler build.
I thought the same thing that Studie would make a GREAT truck. But you would need to finish it
thats going to be a drag truck he said so when he bought it
That would be a very cool build but I am pretty sure he has plans for it and wants to use something he doesn't mind bending. The ONYX challenge isn't body friendly.
I definitely think that Studebaker truck would look cool as hell as a crawler. Come on, it's unusual and different. Make a great crawler
@@DDR3066 so is making it a drag truck he has enough crawlers already
One of your better videos Paul
This is the kind of content I'm paying for.. the old Willie's wagon is way better than any vehicle you have on your property.. keep up the good work Paul you're on the right track. 🤠👍
Very Cool build on the old Willys. my Brother bought 1 when he was 16 a flat head 4 cylinder. Years later, when he got out of the Army, he restored the engine Trans and Suspension, and Brakes then had the interior done and painted it. Root Beer 🍺 Brown, it was awesome 👌 👏
Terry Thomas, " ITS A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD ". The greatest movie ever made .
It's definitely one of my favorites.
Exactly!
Watched it as a kid on the VCR about once a month, that classic deserves more praise and attention today!
For sure, great actors and actress....
Oh yeah, that's movie is hilarious! 😂 That's right there's one just like it in that movie!
This is great. Paul's builds are the best, but what about the ratback?
It’s funny how people are so pissed about finishing everything as fast as possible before moving on to something else. That’s how ADD works! Just enjoy the ride and stuff will get done when it’s time! Or not, who knows. It’s about having fun, not being a production line. Most really creative people I know are easily distracted but they do have a good time
There was an old fella down the road for me that bought one of these from someone old gumaian. It was sitting in a fence. Got it running within a weeddie. Literally drove it the next 10 or 15 years until he passed away of cancer.... It didn't look showroom, but it sounded good and was pretty darn capable.
Paul, I appreciate that you can look at a total piece of garbage and see the potential of a really sweet ride!
About time you fixed up a old Willy’s . I Fixed up my old 1959 Willy’s Jeep and I plow snow in Anchorage Alaska. It’s got a L226 Super Hurricane and it’s 80 over .
My Great Uncle Jack in Ronan MT had a 52 (I think) Willys panel wagon that I rode in with him in 1954 & 55. I was 8 at the time. Always wanted one and never got it done. This was a cool video. Good memories.
I’m glad you are building on this wagon. I have loved this thing since you piled everyone in it.
My brother Guillermo used to own one of the Willys wagons. We used to collect 30 liter containers of milk from local farms in our area in Venezuela. We drove that wagon all over for many years. (6 cylinder, flat head engine with 4x4. It was great 3 speed transmission on the floor.)
That two door Cherokee out in your bone yard needs needs some love in the future.
I have a 1961 Willys Wagon "Rock-lander" build, and I absolutely love it!! It has a 2016 Ram EcoDiesel turbo 3.0 with the 8HP70 transmission behind it. The Atlas 2 T-Case splits the power to the axles with 4 link coil over suspension in the rear and 3 link with coil overs in the front. That EcoDiesel puts out 300 hp. and 500 ft. lbs. of torque! I live in Oregon so I just might take a road trip and see you guys! I can't wait to see what you come with for this build! Love it!
This build of this old Willy's Wagon is awesome and lot's of fun building it. Lot's of memories with this Willy's. Good seeing all the Fab Rats family in this video!
You guy's are freakin AWESOME, nobody else in the competition is gonna have a better over landing rig wow. Thats what those Willys were made for. I would just keep that Engine in it,it will save money so you can get killer suspension and tires. Thanks for the video guy's can't wait for the next one.
Paul that jeep brings back fond memories. I had a 1961 Willey jeep , I did a lot off four wheeling in it back in early 1970s.
When I lived in Northern Arizona, I had a 1956 Willy's 4WD Wagon, completely stock. I wore that old jeep out in the back of beyond in So UT and N AZ.
I had a lot of fun with that old wagon. Took it to SW CO and as far south as RimRock AZ. I got alot of California one finger howdy s when I was on the interstate as she would safely do 50 mph.
You need to give it a lift job.
Yall do great things with little to work wit but grandma lolly is the star or the show still taking care of all the boys making sure Yall getting that good eating.
Don't listen to the haters! I love it here because if I was in your shoes I would have just as many projects as you do! Lol😂
It is good to see this rig get some love. I have a 51 wagon, with a 350 bored 40 over with aluminum pistons, a Rv cam and 300hp. Out to sm465, Dana 300 twinstick, ford nine inch rear Dana 44 front. With power steering conversion. Have had it in the ocean, at 14000 ft, and as fast as 110…. Love these things!
I love it when Hunter pitches in. He is learning lots.
WOW! That tubing straightening idea! I never thought of that!
I absolutely LOVE that old Jeep style !! When you guys are done playing with it you should make it into a MOORVAIR copy and use it for recoveries !!
Good choice of vehicle. About 1968 or 9, I bought a 61 Willys like yours. Installed a junk yard performance 327, $150.00, and a Warn overdrive gave me 12 gears forward and 4 reverse. Did a lot of coastal mountain and some Sierra driving. Fond memories. Good luck in the challenge.
Paul, your one of the best on U Tube! Keep up the great content!
Im so excited for the willys build will be fun watching the process may it take as long as it needs. Love when you and Hunter work together and take your rides your faces crack me up. Love when Michelle is on and gma always to. You guys always rock always will.
That's why everyone likes those things. Like a checkered cab. You can put any motor in it. 3 million miles.
Well so much for finishing the rollback or working on the Jeepster.
I could not agree more. I get excited for FabRats to work on this or that and he goes all ADHD and find a new shiny object to buy. Like the sandrails, I couldn't even watch those videos knowing the rollback was just sitting there.
@@alfredocarpaneto5976 You couldn't watch the videos but you can take time to complain in the comments?
@@upscaleshack Not on those videos I did not watch, obviously.....ooof.
There are definitely some treasures in your "Bone Yard"! Great work at stripping the old motor... now a 283" Boat anchor 😂🤣😂 You are sooooo lucky to have Gramma helping you out!
I enjoy the builds but also like the adventures and challenges. Thanks for allowing us to tag along.
You should do a tour of every vehicle you have out there and what your plans were when you bought it. It would be interesting. I would love to see a full restoration on that willies wagon
It's wonderful to see that 59 Willys rolling. Kind of makes me miss my 59 Willys.
Really looking forward to this build. I've been wanting an old Willys since I was in high school
This is awesome, I have a 1953 cj3b. The frame is good, the body is shot. Runs and drives, I antique tagged it and I drive it all over the place! Old Jeeps are super cool!
As of me vote you killing it at 592, love your builds they are so much fun to watch.
I had a '59 split window Willy's in '79 while in Tahoe as a ski instructor. Great truck... had a 283 in it and a wild paint job. Have fun Rats!
My first car was a 1959 Willys Overland Wagon. Hurricane 6 12 forward gears and 4 reverse. It would crawl anywhere. I pulled out a lot of FJ Cruisers with it too.
I can't stand why so many people just want a build done immediately. Why they complain about too many videos. Why there are too many projects. Why doesn't it run... On and on- I see it on all the channels i love lately. I appreciate all of the effort and content ! Y'all are killing it! Keep it up! Be patient and see great results.
and I cant stand people complaining about other people complaining so there.😉😜🤪😝🤣
Dad had one of those wagons when I was in high school. It had the turning radius of a train which made it a pain to drive. The 283 in yours was an excellent Chevy engine in its day.
It makes me happy to see you working on the Willy's wagon for the OnX build. My dad had 2 wagons in the 60s and they took the family through the backcountry San Juans and Elk Mountains in Colorado.
Another half done project started how exciting .Chad is part of it so he can show Paul what painting is .
Cry us a River or go watch someone else.🤷♂️
I saw one of those wagons that was 2week sitting low black and wood grain . That was the sharpest Jeep I have ever seen.
Thank you. Well it is not going to break no way ,because you are Fab Rats and you are just that good . Keep on making great entertainment and video's they are great
We got 1st, drive and 2nd, out of a cast iron powerglide, who woulda thunk that. These guys are amazing.
Vintage grab, hack, hitch, hook-up, test, troubleshoot, run. A lil customizing, accommodating and off we go to the next competition.
I love these Willy’s wagons. Can’t wait to see how the build turns out. Good choice!
That test drive video if this jeep was one of the first i watched. So excited for this build!
Grandma Lolly is the 💣 she rocks
The body on that old Willy's is in fine shape for being 70 years old.
GOOD JOB BOYS!
I go out of town for a few days, and find this video when I came back!!!
Awesome!
Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
I guess the Rat Back is on hold again?! Someday, right! But then...."Squirrel".... on to something different! No worries, just teasing. All you share is a fun interesting journey. Thanks!
this was filmed before that video if youd pay attention youd notice the shop is not organized in this video ie pay attention to the toolboxes
@@TylerDuysenIt's all fun! Since this video is in the present, so is the comment. BTW youd is not a word. It's You have or you've.
@@josiatokirina1788 you'd is a word its short for you would(a simple google search would have told you this) its just how i talk
@@TylerDuysen who cares whether was done the past or now ! That least it's a video of adventure and fun !
@@steveclark4291 congrats you have no awareness of context the dude was complaining about the ratback not getting done please read the comments before you comment thanks have a great day
In the 60s my mom’s driver was one of this had a straight 6 with a 3 on the tree and a pull out knob on the dash for overdrive.
I truly think this crew and Paul are unstoppable when it comes to building vehicles. then off course he has to do a burn out like we know he is crazy. :-). from the Hot Rod world.
Looks just like my dads old 64 wagon even the white color, brought back alot of memories watchin this
Guys you make the coolest shit an have one of the best channels here. Living here in the Philippines now; got one word "respect"
The hardware on the back of the transfer case is a BW OD and desirable to Willys Wagon and Jeepster crowd so don't chuck in the pile...sell it.
Yep, Borg-Warner overdrive. Also sold as Rancho brand for awhile. Electric shift solenoid. Only use in 2WD. Also used in early cars 1930's 1940's stuff
One of the first vehicles I drove when I turned 16 was a Willys Wagon. It was a great ride. It had the standard engine and transmission.
17:35 If you are looking for your milwaukee screwdriver its up on the winch!
So much for the rat back or the jeepster or any of the other proje ts cause hey what's one more project to stall the rest lol
This Willys Build is going to be so good!! Excited!!
I rode a lot of fun miles in a flat fender jeep utility wagon, fishing and camping. It had a straight six with a four speed. It was two wheel drive, but had a Eaton axel. It would go darn near anywhere. Good way to grow up. Paul. You are a wonderfully bad example.
How's Randall????
Paul singing the Milkshake song made me literally lol
Fab rats have the coolest projects, I want to see the 55 getting worked on .
My second job as a 17 year old in 1968 was at a Texaco station and the owner had one of these Jeep wagons with a plow set up. They were cool then and they are cool now.
Work on the rollback!
Why does everyone care so much what’s being worked on? If it’s got an engine shouldn’t a car guy love it?
@@biglarry7989it’s about following a build and then it stifles like any one of these CZcams channels. A lot of times I won’t watch a channel again till it resumes a build.
I get it. Sometimes it’s a parts ordering thing/delay.
But ultimately it’s their channel and business. They can do what they want same as can we.
If you guys want to see a project, go from start to finish, go over to Chad's Fab. LOVED seeing how he started the wrecker from an old beat up RV to the masterpiece it ended up becoming!
Just a thought for a T shirt.. You should print one up that says. "It'll be fine"😊
if that little blue station wagon in the background ran (2:15) I could use
that for a kayak hauler, make a rack for the top and make a fishing pole
holders on the roof inside for up to 8 poles.
Wednesday you cleaned your shop and you said you were going to finish the rollback. You acknowledged that you have said that many times but this time it will happen. Today, 3 days later you’re on the Willy’s wagon. WTH?😂 The rollback is such a cool project. Finish it! I know, I know the videos are not always in sequence and you’re free to make your own decisions but I want to see the rollback build.
Best of luck with the OnX Build Challenge.
this was filmed before that if you watch bleepin jeeps video youd understand that they couldnt release the videos till on x announced it and did there video
rollback, jeepster, 55 chev
Studebaker, nope we get a willys build today 😂😂 im just happy i get to watch someone else never finish a project like myself.
2:20 I would build that station wagon up like the Morrvair. That thing looks so nice.
I'm sorry to the morr n Layton Nation but Paul YOUR videos are by far the greatest, awesome vehicle not just stacks of CZcams revenue dumped into something just for views, your honest awesome coolest car builds are better than any Cletus, cboys, ghpc, any diesel bros none have the integrity your videos have! Great wholesome content!!!👏
Well so much for finishing the Wrecker or the Jeepster or the Studebaker or Hunters Jeep or Landons Truck or the Free Truck or the Tacoma or....
I think we are tired of these challenges, We all know Paul can't stand to loose at anything,So we know how this will turn out,Boring
Are you done with the ratback sat through the sand rail thing you said it would be next and finished
OnEx challenge is time sensitive. This may run concurrent with the rollback
Yeah. Wondering about the Ratback also?
Both of us, this vehicle and I were born on the same year. Fantastic!
I've been waiting for this build! I had a '55 with the original straight six Hurricane motor and the original tranny and transfer case. It would climb anything but a tree in low range! It worked fine until a got a head gasket leak one day, and the coolant puddled in the spark plugs on top and killed it. Very versatile body style!
May not give out but the first to give up “Hunter”.
That's already a pretty cool build! Fab Rats and Chad's Fab are going to be a tough team to beat!
Well let's see, you have trouble with engines and transmission and...
Hey Paul, what happened to you and Matt it seems like ever since you didn’t go to the off-road games we haven’t seen you guys together. Did something happen?
It was probably because Paul didn't join in on the Off Road Games ! Since there could have been liability issues with a non experienced person driving the vehicle ! I know that I wouldn't have joined in on it either for that reason ! Just look at what happened to Robby's Jeep !
