    Add a few Black Australorp chickens/hens to your flock, it worked great for us, the hawks think they are crows and the hawks stay away. We haven't lost one chicken to hawk attacks since we got them. Also, they are one of the most productive layers ever.

    We have a lot of hawks to. I wanted to use the electric netting fence, but was afraid of the hawks getting my chickens. So this is what I did and it worked. My old neighbor gave me a rubber/foam decoy of a hen turkey and I put that up on a rod on top of my chicken pen. I have it like it’s looking at them and it works no more hawks and critters. Someone told me you can use fake owls to and that works. And on my summer pen I put fishing line on top of my pen and zigzag over the top. They do this in Florida over the swimming pools at the motels to keep the bigger bird from coming down.

    just clip one wing before they go outplace some 6 foot poles around the paddock strand fishing line crisscrossed this will help deter the hawks as they wont see the fishing line and it startles them we use it across our ponds to keep fish eating birds away

    Get some Ravens to roost in your area. They will keep the eagles and hawks away. We do this, feed a breeding pair for the last 7 years. They actively keep the predators away. Smart birds too.

    Have you thought of making a mobile "chicken tractor" to allow your chicks to be in different areas of your garden? Not something as big as your chicken run, perhaps two and separate the chickens, to give them the opportunity to eat grass and bugs elsewhere. Whith those hawks you'll need to put nets to protect them for sure!

    Raccoons are not totally nocturnal. I had one come into my barn after a chicken 3 hours before sunset.
    A "little" slow? I didn't think it was even moving. Glad they improved it.
    The Intellishock 30 is a 0.3 joule charger, not at 30 joule. You could run many MILES of fence with 30 joules.
    You made the same mistake I did - didn't order a gate for the net!

    Hi Pete, I have seen several channels similar to yours where people are using this poultry netting and it seems that everyone has a positive review about it so I hope it serves you well. Just curious if you have planted your tomatoes yet, here in Spring TX this am it was 44 a little chilly but certainly not freezing. Our 10 day forecast shows us no where near a freeze so i think I am good to plant tomatoes this weekend. Lastly, are you still planning on a completion video on your solar panels? Enjoy the day, David.

      Yep, I've been watching the weather too, and it looks like we'll be planting tomatoes tomorrow. I'll be doing a video on how my solar system works soon, but we've been having problems with the micro inverters working with the inverter chargers. This is the first time these two brands have worked together and they're working some bugs out on the firmware.

    How do you prevent them from jumping the fence? We just got 5 adult chickens from a friend and one got out of the coop and I swear flew about 15 feet in the air at least...and yes we chased her around the yard til we caught her

    • @petebeasttexashomesteading
      @petebeasttexashomesteading  Před 3 lety +1

      It all depend on what breed you have but usually if you have a dual purpose bird meat/egg they are bigger and heavier and will have a less chance of flying out. Also make sure you buy the 48 inch high fence or higher if you can find it.

  • @hollandduck79
    @hollandduck79 Před 4 lety +1

    good day.
    I see quite a few trees in the area and around the chicken run and outside run
    so why don't you hang camouflage nets low above the electric fence
    just so that those birds can't come flying in from above
    because I think that's their hunt way ?
    dive into prey in a kind of dive? .
    if you block that because of the camouflage net,
    I think you run a much lower risk by letting them run "freely" between the electric fence .
    Kind regards Hollandduck from the Netherlands

      No not really, the very bottom horizontal strand is not electrically charged but the seconds strand is. So you just have to keep the grass short or use a water and vinegar solution to kill the grass around the fence.
