That might not be a lot to many people, but it's a hell of a lot more than I got for my first 8 years in the Navy. My first of three deployments was to Guantanamo Bay, providing healthcare to detainees. People told me to my face daily that they were going to kill me, so two-to-three times the pay, and no death threats sounds like a steal to me - and I wouldn't even have to live in a Conex box with five other sailors.

@@rodfatherfishing9223 That's going to be far too long into the future. Better pay is the best answer. We're having the same problem in the UK, though it depends on the business. I was talking to my supermarket delivery driver about it (asked how much petrol was at his base - his answer was that he didn't know because they fill their vans up at Shell, because they don't have enough HGV drivers to guarantee stocks... 🤦🏻‍♀️).
He also said that since Walmart sold his company (the 3rd biggest supermarket chain here!) to a pair of weird brothers, they've been running it into the ground. They're paying the heavy goods drivers pretty much minimum wage, whereas others are paying up to 4 times the amount. Though our problem is more to do with the stupidity of our current pestilence in chief. We lost a crap ton of drivers from Europe because they were no longer able to work here.🤬 He had to eat crow and ask them to come back - till Xmas 🤦🏻‍♀️
If you think you have it bad, our petrol is about £1.50 a _litre._ I just looked at a converter and it says 1 US gallon (come on, you can't even use _proper_ imperial measures?? 😉) is 3.79 litres. That's about $7.62 a gallon (or $9.13 a UK gallon. When I passed my driving test, I remember being shocked that it had gone up to 93p/gallon; today that's $1.87). These figures would seem better under normal trading figures when the US dollar is approx £1.30-1.50; it's currently $2.01 to the pound.
It's not just our countries suffering these shortages though; most of the world is. I heard that it's - at least in part - due to there being a lack of empty shipping containers in China. I saw a pile of about 100 empty ones not far from us recently, so I'm thinking they're all in the west!

    "Presidents are not kings."
The problem is, quite a large part of the GOP base has been told for years (via their pastors, mainly) that a king would be better. My father, a nasty southern Baptist Republican and one of the most bigoted, nasty people I've ever met, has been saying for more than a decade that he doesn't understand why the US doesn't have a king. "It would make more sense, we should just have a king, it's not like voting matters." I always thought that was such a weird thing for him to say, all the time. Then, in the last few years, I started hearing it more online, and from more people in real life. "Why don't we have a king? There are a lot of benefits to having a king. We should have a king, makes sense!" Despite, you know, the US founders, you know, rebelling against a king to, you know, set up our democracy, which, you know, I thought we cherished?
Now, here we are. The GOP has made it clear: they don't want a fairly elected president, they want a dictator/king in power, and their wacky evangelical base is all for it, having been primed for years at their pulpits. We got a bit of it with Nixon's "It's not a crime if the president does it," and then there's been continual creep as the power of the president's office has expanded, under both Dem and GOP control. Then came 9/11, which really ramped up the president's stronghold. It isn't a perfect dictator yet, but Trump and today's Republicans desperately want it to be.

The Brandon supporters claim president have no bearing on gas prices. So by their own theory then Trump didn’t have policies that actually lowered gas prices. Don’t ya see, a Republican can never get credit for lowering gas prices through good policy and a democrat can never be blamed for raising them with bad policy. Convenient isn’t it.

(As far as the politics of that goes, I'm British and don't have a dog in that race, I'm just interested in the global banking system - I'm not sure it's fair to blame Trump for the inflation, but it's fair to say it was caused while he was still your President).

I'm no economist, but couldn't they set limits, at the federal level, to prevent landlords and businesses from hiking prices without proper documentation of "need"? They also need to change the rules for adherence to the state minimum wage to not be determined by # of employees, but rather by annual income. I work for a hotel (more of a motel, if you catch my meaning) in California, and they keep their # of employees low just to be able to pay us less than we're worth. A lot of economic issues could be fixed, but we'd need to get a tighter control over what a US business is allowed to do. Maybe set up a "business ethics" committee? And don't just throw anyone on it, have the people VOTE who gets put on it, with a thorough background check of who is wanting placement. Eh, but that really sounds like a pipe dream. Tax the corporations, and take off the kiddie gloves! If they try to do some shifty sh*t, then levy fines on them. If they suddenly want to uproot to China or whatever shortly after it's announced, just ensure they know that they would be hit with tariffs from the US and allied countries if they did so (thus costing even more, on top of the overall price of moving countries). Make them fully disclose ALL financial activity to the IRS each quarter.
Also, TAX THE CHURCHES! There is no reason not to! At least remove their exemption from having to release their financial records to the IRS, which NO OTHER "non-profit" is given the privilege. There has always been an unfair bias in favor of religious institutions, which is probably why there are so many evangelicals who turn to grifting and deceit. Look, I'm also not a religious person, but doesn't the bible say to be wary of deceivers, for they are most likely aligned with the Prince of Lies? I mean, maybe it's a paraphrase, but I don't personally see any value in religion, but that's not the point I'm making here. The Fed needs to grow a backbone and stand up to churches, corporations, and the 1% (or whatever they call the financially wealthy, yet morally bankrupt), and stop fighting testing on cannabis or use of it, among other really dumb shi*t.
