Ruby's always described her semblance as just 'speed', to Weiss in the Emerald Forest, and then when Nora is telling Oscar everyone's semblances she too just calls it speed.
Beacon taught Ruby that Salem could have agents anywhere. Haven taught her that the agents could be at the very top of the power structures of Remnant. We've seen way, way more of Ironwood than Ruby has. Before Volume 7 I think they only interacted three times; after the Dance party incident, after Yang's disqualification and outside the arena immediately after Penny's death.
Weiss's weapon was already up to "Atlas standards" and didn't need to be upgraded.
The mine is the one Ilia’s parents died in.
    Ace-Op (Aesop) allusions:
Harriet - The Hare that lost to the Tortoise
    Clover - The Lucky Fisherman
Marrow - The dog with a bone that looked into his reflection and thought the dog in the water had a better bone, so he dropped his into the lake trying to get it
Elm and Vine - a marriage fable about a vine climbing a tree that I don’t know too well
Marrow’s semblance lets him freeze what he’s looking at.

Where the grasshopper taunts the ants for working hard during the good times. Then the bad times come. The ants survive because they prepared. The grasshopper dies, because WORK HARD OR DIE! It's not confirmed to be the mine Ilia's parents died in but it is heavily implied so we can technically assume it is. It's never been stated 100% to be the same one but we have nothing saying it isn't the same one.

I love Qrows face when Clover (AKA Captain America) tells him his semblance is Good Fortune, its animated so well because it reads like "Holy crap I never even considered that could be a thing"
Also, the "Ace Ops" are based on Asops fables. Thats why Clover uses a fishing pole, and its why Hare (AKA the Flash) is super fast because she is the rabbit from the Tortoise and the Hare story.

    Fun Facts
Fact 1: The scene featuring Team RWBY jumping from the Manta gunship is a callback to "The Emerald Forest". Furthermore, Miles Luna states that he wanted Atlas to feel like the Beacon days at first, and first came up with the idea that some Atlas Academy professors would teach them. The idea evolved into mentors, which eventually became the Ace-Ops.
Fact 2: The crates in the Abandoned SDC Mine is intended to bring out Adam Taurus to the forefront of Blake's mind, which is something that Yang notices.
Fact 3: Weiss did not receive a weapon upgrade as Myrtenaster was already perfect for her needs.
Fact 4: The writers were confused when they saw people on Reddit and Tumblr think that there would be a shopping montage in this volume.
Fact 5: The mine is heavily implied to be same mine where Ilia Amitola's parents lost their lives.
Fact 6: The writers have stated that many things that seem like retcons are actually not, just that Miles and Kerry didn't do a good job explaining it the first time while learning how to tell a story while simultaneously telling a story.
Fact 7: The episode originally had a different thumbnail before it was changed to the current one.

    • @omargoodman2999
      @omargoodman2999 Před 9 dny

Re Fact 3: They needed their gear brought up to "Atlas Standards". Weiss's weapon was already there, since she's originally _from_ Atlas. So, essentially, she *started off* with this upgrade back when she first started training; before even going to Beacon. She started the game with, like, 3rd or 2nd best weapon in the game for her. Only thing better would be the legendary sealed ultimate weapon that can only be found in the final dungeon or from an optional super-boss.

If you notice Yang's design since volume 1 has always been about asymmetry. One side being different from the other.
the gold plating on Blake's weapon is a reference to an old japanese pottery technique. They believe in finding beauty in flaws, so when pottery cracks, they seal the cracks with gold to highlight the cracks that formed when creating it.
    it is called kintsugi.

The way that my friends and I cheered "JAUNE HAS A LANDING STRATEGY" will forever live in my heart.
4:17 Also, cause I didn't see anyone else mention it in the comments, in Japanese pottery there is a process called "Kintsukuroi",. When a pottery is chipped or damaged, instead of replacing the pot they instead seal the cracks with gold. This makes the damage much more prominent but its seen as adding to the design and strengthening it rather than a scar to be ashamed of.
My Grandmother used to do Kintsukuroi as a hobby to help repair her vases and vases for her friends when they asked and she passed away a few months before volume 7 was released so seeing Blake's weapon and the design really connected deep with me.

Clover Ebi; Fishing pole guy, good luck semblance
Marrow Amin; Boomerang guy, time slowing semblance (sort of, he doesn't really freeze time, just whoever he's looking at)
Harriet "Hare" Bree; Exo-skeleton gauntlets, superspeed semblance
Vine Zeki; Throwing star, extendable arms semblance
Elm Ederne; Rocket hammer, aura roots semblance
The geist grimm they fought here is one you've seen before, we saw one in the opening of volume 4, in the forest. It's basically a grimm ghost that can inhabit and control pieces of the environment. It's also the same kind of grimm that possessed the knight armor that Weiss defeated in her original trailer and forms the basis of her knight summon.
The mine they fought in is the same one Ilia's parents died in.
Almost everyone gets an upgrade to their kit, except Weiss, who clearly doesn't need one, and Blake, who has her weapon repaired instead, specially using a japanese method called kintsugi, usually used to fix ceramic items, which uses gold to fill the join. Notably, this method is NOT designed to disguise or hide the repair, and treats it instead as a part of the items history.

Qrow's semblance has pros and cons as he said when he first told RNJR what it was around the campfire after the first fight with Tyrion. It's always active so it's great when he's fighting an enemy and they are suffering from bad luck, but since he can't control it or turn it off then it can also cause friends or family to experience bad luck too, putting them in danger. That second part is why he views his semblance the way he does; if something bad happens around him he immediately thinks his semblance is to blame and he starts blaming himself for putting people he's close to in danger. He views himself to sometimes be more of a liability in team missions.

As this video is uploaded, it is the last weekend before the Rooster Teeth website and apps shut down for good on May 15 (ironically, it’s also Weiss’ birthday - talk about a need to regift!)
You’re asking a lot of good questions, but answers will not come until later due to the events yet to be seen.
I should point out the Ace Operatives, or Ace Ops, is a literal pun - as they are all based on Aesop’s Fables. Get it?
Clover - the leader, with the good fortune Semblance, you call him Captain America, he is based on the tale “A Fisherman’s Good Luck.”
Marrow - the dog Faunus, with darker skin, the boomerang weapon and the Stay Semblance. He is based on the take “A Dog and His Reflection.”
Harriet - the Flash, speedster character. She is based on “The Tortoise and the Hare.”
Elm - the thick skinned woman with the large hammer.
Vine - the stoic, Vision like, Mr. Fantastic ability using character. Both of these two are named after the tale “The Elm and the Vine.”
We wait now, as RT closes its doors after 21 years, to see what happens with RWBY - the creators did say talks with other parties are going well but no info has leaked yet.
Also, after the next episode, you are free to watch both Justice League x RWBY Part One ONLY (do NOT try to watch Part 2 yet - you must wait until much later in the series), and the events of the video game RWBY: Arrowfell are also now free to experience. It takes place between Chapters 4 and 5 of Volume 7.

    - actually, that's not Winter when the holo-image of Ironwood gets disrupted in the opening, but saying who it is is a bit of a spoiler. It'll come out in a few episodes.
    - and the Dog faunus triggers his semblance with the command 'stay'. 😄
    - It's a Geist (German for ghost) RNJR fought one of these Grimm back at the start of Vol 4. It started with a body made of boulders; when they destroyed an arm it replaced it with a dead tree. Also shows up in occasionally in later volumes of RWBY Chibi.
    - not Gollum, Bethany. Golem. Originally a magical clay 'robot'/protector from Hebrew mythology, though D&D and other such games have expanded on the possible base materials significantly over the years. A golem is in essence a magical robot capable of following simple command from it's creator. so it's not a perfect fit for the Geist's body, but close enough.
    - DC does have a Captain Boomerang. He's a Flash Villain from Australia. No superpowers, just a lot of trick boomerangs like Green Arrow's/Hawkeye's arrows.
    - As others commentors have said, the Ace Ops are based on Aesop's Fables. The best know one is probably 'the Tortoise and the Hare' (honestly, the only one I really know, though I had partial recollection of the dog one)
    - 'Captain America' is named Clover (as in a 4 leaf clover). Speedster is Harriet (hare, natch), and dog guy is Marrow, (his inspirational fable involves a bone)
    - Ruby and others have often referred to her semblance as speed based (because it does let her move around fast) but yeah there's a lot more her semblance is capable of. like limited flight bursts, spitting to go around an obstacles/fit thru small spaces, and carrying others along with her in Petal form.
    - On trusting Ironwood: Ruby and Co have had their trust in authority shaken since the fall of Beacon first by Headmaster Leonardo siding with Cinder/Salem, and then the revelations about Oz/Salem. Is Ruby making the best choice? Maybe not, but she's only what, 16? 17 at most.
    - "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky animals and you know it."
    - another example of good motivations, bad execution: Magneto from X-Men. He wants to protect his people from being destroyed, a noble goal. Starting a race war is not the best way to go about that.

Bethany, Gollum was the little guy in LoTR (so-called because of the noise he habitually made in his throat). The Golem is a monster from Hebrew folklore, basically a clay statue magically animated by a scroll ('chem') placed inside its head that caused it to seek revenge for its creator...you could think of it as a dark-ages Terminator. In Volume 8, someone will expand on Ruby's semblance, but they're wrong because everything they say is stupid and it's one of the big examples of how terrible the writers are, the stupidity of the Amity Colosseum plan being another example. It's stupid people trying to write smart people coming up with clever plans.

I think Ironwoods plan is a very important reason for why Team RWBY should tell Ironwood, at least that Salem can not be destroyed.
Because that seems like such a critical piece of information, that Ironwood should have before pulling the trigger on letting the world know.

That said, they still have time. They still need to prepare Amity before sending the message… But either way they should still be getting global communication working again… Of course let, him know before he goes further, but it’s not exactly important yet… Also what if he abandons the plan and does something else crazy instead if he knows now?
That’s not to say you are wrong, but I think there are pros and cons to both sides.

So a couple of things, one of which you bring up, that just felt off about this chapter for me.
One, Ruby questions how they were going to fight the geist, which has been counter to how she has been in the past. She looks at the situation and quickly comes up with a plan. She's done that all the way back in V1C8 for reference. So to see her confused and questioning "how" just feels off for her.
Now, some might say that it is due to EVERYTHING that she has gone through. The mental trauma that she has gone through is catching up... but I just feel like there could have been a better way of showing it. Because now it just like the boosting of the Aceops is cheap when you show Ruby struggling. Like Yang would have LOVED to get into the fight, as she often does, so having her be on the sideline, again feels like the boosting of the Aceops as cheap.
Two, forced sudden potential love interest between Qrow and Clover. I say forced because Qrow has ALWAYS been a ladies man throughout the ENTIRE series. From skirt length, to top shelf, it has been shown that he has enjoyed the company of ladies. To have the sudden shift is out of character. Unless RWBY makes Qrow, Yang AND Blake be Bisexual, it just feels... off. I know that the LGBT community loves the inclusion, and I have no problem with it, I would just like a little more character consistency in these later Volumes, especially when they have shown establishing thought lines in the beginning Volumes.
But, then you have to bring up character development. I would consider character development as establishing their foundation of who the character is in the beginning, and then building up from there. Yang and Blake developing feelings for each other, no problem, but do you lose the foundation of them liking guys as well? (Shown in previous volumes) Qrow being good friends with Clover, no problem, like a Frodo and Sam friendship, no problem. But a Qrow and Clover relationship? When has Qrow shown ANY interest in guys prior? There wasn't any foundation prior.
I can get behind Yang and Blake being bisexual, due to Yang having excitement about a "slumber party" with the guys all the way back in Volume 1, and Blake's relationships with Adam and Sun. CRWBY could set up a Yang-x-Blake-x-Sun relationship if they wanted. And based on the past foundations, I could see it.
I can't really see Qrow turning bisexual... no real foundation in the past.
If anyone wants to counter, that's fine, I don't mind a good healthy friendly debate, not sure how much my mind can be changed, but I don't mind if someone feels like they see something else that I might have missed or feel differently about.
