Alright, well, this was blitzed out way faster than normal. Combine my strong desire to keep up the daily videos and this being the only series I was ahead of and here we go. I haven't recorded any of the bonus stuff yet, so for real this time the V9 Soundtrack video will not be until November 11th, and then hopefully every Saturday after that for a while we'll bump through some other bonus stuff. Hopefully we do have a V10 to check out in a few years, since it probably will be that long if we do get it, but yeah, I had a blast with this volume, and I hope you all enjoyed the reactions.
The Cat was made to find the DAMAGED parts of the Everafter and send them back to the Tree to be repaired or repurposed. But, if that wasn't an option, the Jabbawalker was supposed to TERMINATE the problem at its SOURCE.
Thanks for the explanation. I never understood what the Blacksmith meant by "finish what the cat started". That makes so much sense now.

I had always said they should gather the relics and call the gods and have Ruby give them a verbal smackdown. Now she can do that and follow it up with "Don't make me call your mother!"
Convince Salem that going to the Everafter will "fix" her?

A cute bit about Little/Somewhat is that when Little was reincarnated, they were inspired by Ruby, so Somewhat has a hooded cape just like Ruby.
The way ruby fought when she burst out of the tree was insane we’ve never seen her fight with that much conviction imo

Well interesting one if you look at one of qrows fights I forget which one but the way ruby was Fighting it was really similar to qrow so it was like Her Fighting spirit Was reborn Stronger then before just like Qrow

When Red Like Roses Part 3 started it felt like her life is flashing before my eyes. All the memories, all the pain, all the struggles, all the joy, everything. It felt like rebirth, it felt like regaining all of her strength and returning more powerful than ever. Just perfect.
They don't REMEMBER who they were or the people they met before, but just like with the Prince and Little, they can sense when someone or something is important to them.
Something to remember: Ravens portals take her to WHOM, not to WERE. So, there is one other person who knows were they went that night: whoever Raven telaported them to.
Didn't they mention at one point that she only has portals for Tai, Yang, Summer, and Qrow?

@@yelloturkey so true, the examples listed were supplied by Tai, who hasn't seen Raven for basically the entirety of Yang's life, so who's to say she didn't forge connections to other people during that time gap, even just 1 other
It could be Spring or Fall maiden. I think they both were killed by Salem that night

There is a PROTOTYPE epilogue for volume 9 into 10 if you want to react to it. Its only storyboard, but it does have audio and actually is very good.

I'm sure RWBY will continue to be good, but I don't think any volume will top this one.
I very much appreciate how this volume was mostly a breather volume. We kind of needed that after volumes 7 and 8. Not to mention, those volumes always seem to end on a dark note; never felt like any ground was being gained. This was one of the first volumes i could enjoy without some underlying concern about the fates of known characters. Also, 1st volume without the worry for Grimm, which has always felt like a barrier towards getting any meaningful resolution since they have to keep their emotions in check.
Overall, while i know we'll be back to the usual next volume, its great to have something like this.
In this chapter, several variations of the theme song are really reminiscent of the youthful time spent in Beacon's dormitory or in the ruins next to the Emerald Forrest. As they look on towards Shade the incredible Williams music is the right soundtrack to their whole story. From the beginning with all their struggles and hardships and slowly getting to where they are now.
35:35 the way Ruby reaches out for Crescent Rose as she falls through liminal space is a parallel with the way Oscar reaches out for Ozpin's cane while falling through the lower levels of Atlas....each embracing their destinies.
I knew Shark would like Ruby's character arc, it's brilliant. Ruby felt that she wasn't good enough, and the bar in her mind was how perfect Summer was. So shattering that illusion plus remembering that her mother loved her the way she was, was enough. Knowing that her mother wasn't the perfect teammate, huntress, mother or human, Ruby can move on and trust herself.
you remember, the Blacksmith was crafting a butterflies wing when we first met her, then we saw a skull plate when she met Ruby again.
Fun fact: The new song is officially referred to as "Red Like Roses part III"
It's an axe, not a scythe. Ruby based her scythe off Qrow's; it never had anything to do with her mother.

When we see those crossed Scimitars, i think those are Cinders. I remember, didn't, before she got the Maidens power and could just make them anywhere, we got a flashback from when she first met Emerald; i think she had those and a bow string across her back
Would be funny to see the alternate timeline where Ruby's cocoon cracks open and a new Cinder jumps out to fight the Cat and lead Team CWBY.

Personally, if Neo does come back? I would like her to be younger (15 years younger), able to speak, going by her old name "Trivia Vanilla", and holding on something from the ever after like Penny's crystal sword and merging Torchwick's cane with her parasol, and have a "portion" of the cat's magic after overshadowing her and make it her own, and having her personality of being sneaky, cautious, observant, timid, wary of her surroundings, and "somewhat" friendly

Yeah so glad to see you reacting to the finale already. I really hope the next volume will get greenlit. such a shame to see this show end so close to its conclusion. at worst I say just speed it up and rewrite it and have Salem get the Becan relic offscreen and finish the series up with volume 10. Better that then leave it in limbo

An interesting idea I thought of as this volume was coming to a close is that the cycle of ascending and reincarnation here may play a key role in defeating Salem when we get to that point. Depending on how death works with her in the ever after and how her infinite life effects the process would be interesting to see but overall I think it could be cool way to have this volume connect even more that it already has to the series overall. I have a feeling they probably won't go that direction but it is a cool idea and possibility for how things could go down.
48:01 I've gotta admit, I was majorly disappointed that they age regressed Jaune. I didn't notice the white streaks until I saw a comment on a Reddit post mentioned it, and I appreciate that there's _some_ remnant (hehe) of his age, but I still wish they kept him old. Now he's a 30+ man in a 19-year-old body, which might complicate things depending on the direction they go with that. Honestly though, 30-something-year-old Jaune is genuinely my favorite out of all his designs.

Late to the party, but I'm happy to be here. After Volume 9 released I bought it (and the JL crossover when they came out, now I'm waiting for Queendom). My wife had only seen Volume 1, so afterwards I let her watch everything and she loved the story (she watched Queendom afterwards because "More RWBY").
I think Jaune being de-aged is for narrative reason, and the white in his hair remaining shows the wisdom he has gained with age.
I'm a fan of the Lancaster pairing (Jaune/Ruby). The fact that only Jaune knew why Ruby didn't change when no one else did helps me.
Apparently, Wiess has a thing for Older guys. Since in the RWBY X JL comics she gets a crush on good old Batman lol.

Given that there was a trailer for the DC crossover movie at the end here, my money says a RREAL epilogue will be at the end of the Part 2 coming out at the end of the month.

11:30, the DEEPEST RWBY`s ever been, and the LOWEST Ruby has ever been.
There’s an animatic available of an epilogue they cut. It was screened at RTX over the summer. Just in case you wanted to react to that.

CREWBY; Part Two? Nah fam, here comes PART THREE!
So a few notes on these last few episodes, these were written as an Ep 8-11 finale, by the time it was totally apparent they had to cut an episode due to various things like COVID increasing production cost of well.. everything and them working on a budget that was allocated pre-COVID the first half of the season was already mostly done so they couldn't really cut there, so instead you end up with condensing.
From writers comments the parts with the most cuts were the first half of E9. E9 was originally going to open with Neo's posession (with 8 ending with Ruby drinking the tea), have some follow up scenes before going into what we see. E10 would close with the Cats Transformation. The Entire Summer Flashback would of been in E11 instead of split between 9 and 10. Jaune was going to meet the ascended Herbalist during his trip and he'd of said some stuff about how how humans have the capacity to change inside of themselves all along. And uhh there's more but I can't remember it all off the top of my head.
There was also an episode 12 in the initial outline and you can find part of it if you look up Volume 9 Epilogue, they showed stuff at RTX regarding that but it would of taken place entirely in Vacuo entirely after well.. the Ever After with it more or less being like a teaser for V10 and their plan is to incorporate all that stuff into V10E1 (so basically what happened with V6-7 where they initially wanted the finale to be them getting to Mantle, meeting Peitro and then a cliffhanger on the reveal of Penny being alive before that got turned into V7E1 instead)
There was internal debate in the writers room on him they should age Jaune back down or have him return to Remnant as his aged self but ultimately they felt they'd put him through enough shit in V8-9 already and they should at least give him that measure of peace.
So happy to se the ending
surprised shark hasn't brought up the vengeance is a riptide line in the intro after Neo's story has done it's thing because he pointed out those lyrics specifically when he first heard the intro.

Have you noticed the "This Will Be The Day" motifs scattered in the OST towards the end of the chapter? Also, I'm glad I'm not alone in disliking Jaune's banana hairstyles 😂
It's interesting, in the market Ruby trades her emblem, claiming it holds a mother's promise. But maybe it's more accurate to say it holds a daughter's promise. She's tried to be the hero she thinks her mother was expecting her to be. But her mother would have been smart enough to tell her that the real world isn't kind to heroes.
I think the message is not about being anything you want to be, but that what you feel you are will have to be enough. Even if it isn't, even if events are totally overwhelming. It's not your purpose to save everyone and everything, only to do the best you can.

I love how 1v3 with just WBY, the cat was winning, 1v1 against Ruby, Ruby was winning. And 1v4, it took them like 10 seconds to beat the cat. Really shows just how absurdly good of a fighter Ruby is, when in top form against a monster.

The Justice League x RWBY pt 2 came out yesterday digitally and (SPOILER): there's some things that are relevant from Volume 9 in there (though mostly from a character development point of view. The movies are considered Canon Adjacent.
As for viewing on Crunchyroll, they'[ve been trying to increase viewership numbers on the site for monetization since their CRWBY budget is not funded by Warner Bros. At least according to their licensing head, Geoff Jetter. Both he and Kerry have been attempting to push more traffic to the Crunchyroll site in hopes to greenlight V10. Those viewership numbers will determine the fate of the franchise.

-Summer's weapon is an axe/riffle, not a scythe, she's the huntsman in LRRH. The only scythe-wielders we know of are Qrow and Maria

-I love the mannerisms of CC in Neo's body, such funky animation. Sad we didn't get that Neo on wheels in canon
-Sassy Summer, love to see her personality, even in a tiny flashback like that
-Mmm Raven bros finally got their trashbird (affectionate), Raven watch payed off greatly this volume, unexpected too
-The way RLR p3 came in with those first notes tho.... chills, literal chills
-It's interesting to see the progression of Red Like Roses - p1 was about her team as a whole, briefly, before jumping into a fight, p2 was about Summer, and p3 was finally about herself
-A fitting conclusion for Neo, i would say. The soft "I'm not real" is such a gutpunch too. And the detail that we can see a pink crystal on Blacksmith's workbench
-Somewhat having so many elements of Ruby's design is so cute. And as many would say, we really do need adventures of Somewhat and Juniper
-Ah yes, the volume that many idiots wrote off as filler had some of the biggest character progressions/explorations and lore drops
-This will be the day leitmotif playing gets me emotional every time
-And now i will leave my theory: Nothing can die in Ever After, it can only ascend and change to something else. MMMMM is it too farfetched to say they gonna either willingly or forcefully push Salem into EA and defeat her that way? She won't die, but she will find the balance of life and death in a way of ascension

You know this is pretty corny but sometimes it's not about knowing what's right or wrong ITS ABOUT DOING WHAT YOU THINK IS RIGHT AND ACCEPTING IT
I have a theory of what could happen to Neo, but it would mean not seeing her again until an epilogue after the series is completed. The first thing that would need to happen is that the Brothers need to return to the Tree. In the epilogue we see young twins playing with other kids, one with silver eyes and the other with purple. They finish playing and run to their mom, who we only see holding a parasol blocking their appearance.

Watching this volume again through these reactions has made me enjoy the vol more than my initial watch.
My main issue was i was so invested in the overall story with salem, the deviation away from that ruined my initial watch.
Rewatching it now for a second and third time i can say its probably top 3 vol along with 3 and 8. I still love vol 1 but mainly for nostalgia
Random comment but as a non English first language person, I find it incredibly hard to understand the lyrics of RWBY openings. Anyone have the same experience?
Check FlyntofRWBY for most OSP lyrics. He did take some time off but has posted volume 9 material.
For musicians, Sirs and Madams have good coverage of the OSP.
Even as a first language it can be hard sometimes. Enunciation is unfortunately not one of her strong points. Some seasons are better than others.
