Yang's hair always goes on fire when she "activates" her semblance (just like her eyes turn red when she's angry) - it just wasn't shown until now (specifically end of V6 when she punched Adam :D) but now you can "see" the abilities (and aura as well!) better thanks to the animation upgrade^^
To be extra clear. It definitely has always caught fire when she used her semblance (among other things sometimes). It's just wasn't as *obvious* in the original animation style as it is in this one.
And the point of not seeing it in V4-5 until Adam was the idea that she heeded Taiyang's advice and held off on using her semblance unless it was the proper opportunity to do so. Taiyang chided her for using it to win every fight since it made her predictable and could burn her out against an enemy that could take the abuse.
It even obviously ignited in the Yellow trailer when she was fighting Junior.
@@JJMDudeexcept that really doesn't take into account how she's probably used her semblance the least of the whole cast up to that point. In fact I think she only uses it once in all of Volume 2 if I recall. And like many times it's at a crucial moment where it's necessary. Like the doubles and Mercury shes focused and its at the end of a fight when it's the last legs and either the enemy is exhausted themselves or they get a bit too confident and underestimate the potential environment change from concentrated distraction against roller blades and a guy that can use a lot of sound force. Otherwise the pop off was mainly used a couple times in V1 as a comedic relief joke, but the Adam bit in V3 was the first time the emotional aspect was used as a serious detriment, which is what SHOULD have been the focus.
@daysand123 I think it's seen the least because she FIGHTS the least. Apart from that, I don't even know what you're trying to say apart from being shitty.
Fun fact: Pietro's voice actor is the same as Lee from Telltales Walking Dead and Pong Krell from Clone Wars.
Dave Fennoy has the rare privellege of having two roles in RWBY. The other is Dr Merlot in the Grimm Eclipse game.
Another is Joel D Mann, who plays Shay D Mann in volume 5 and Drunk Mann in this episode.

Penny’s return never fails to make me smile. I was wiping away tears of joy when I first saw that scene.
Also, Yang’s hair has been going on fire for a while. It happened with the Adam fight in V6. It’s specifically when she uses her semblance (aka Rage Mode).
Hell, it happens in the Yellow Trailer. It's just a bit lost in other visual effects.
Yang’s hair turning to fire is part of her semblance. In V1-3 it was just a glow effect because that’s all poser was capable of. We didn’t see her use her semblance at all in V4-5. But we saw during the Adam fight last volume they’ve upgraded it to actually catch fire. Which is dope.
In volume 3 when Penny was destroyed,you see a very quick shot of her dad gripping the arm of his wheelchair and looking at the video feed.
Qrow is now voiced by Jason Liebrecht who is best known for voicing characters such as Jeice in Dragon Ball Z Kai and Lord Champa in Dragon Ball Super, Dabi in My Hero Academia, Zeke Yeager (Eren's half brother) in Attack on Titan, etc.
Just a reminder of the foreshadowing, when Tyrian and Watts left Salem's lair it was because 'she is worried that General Ironwood might come to his senses and seek help'.
Not sure if you noticed, but Pietro's bowtie is Penny's old bow.
Since we're speaking about hair, we got to see part of Pietro's hair at the very end of season 1. That was my first clue on who he was, and it blew my mind.
So glad you got this far without the reveal. There’s obviously a huge amount of merch and fanart of Penny 2.0 out there so even the most casual of searches might have given the game away.

The last name of Penny and Pietro is 'Polendina', which is actually an insult used towards Geppetto in the original Pinocchio. It's basically just a way to say Geppettos yellow wig looks like cornmeal mush.

PENNY RETURNS
Small detail, but in Vols. 1-3, Penny has the body of a girl. When Pietro rebuilt her, he refitted her with the body of a young woman, longer hair, etc. so she looks like she's aged with her Beacon peers.

Oh yeah. Time for my favourite 3 volumes of the show!
Yangs hair has always lit up whenever she uses her semblance, it was just never very clear in the original (volumes 1-3) animation engine. We previously saw it at the end of the Adam fight last season, which was the first time she'd used her semblance since the fall of Beacon, and thus the first time in the new engine.
The Relic at the end is the Relic of Creation. We saw all the Relics last season, and we know where each one is by now based on their themes and which Maiden can open which door.
The Lamp does indeed have only 1 question left currently.
The new team are called the Ace Ops. Aesop's. Guess what they're based on.
Blakes sword is still broken, which is a problem and why she had to hold back a little in the fight.
This volume marks the intro of Qrows new voice actor Jason Liebrecht, after Vic Mignogna was fired. It's noticeable, but he does a pretty decent job.
And yay Penny's back! Finally answering perhaps the biggest question fans had after 4 long years.
Also love they pulled out all stops for the new character design and yangs new semblance effects for her fire hair

Vol7 animation style made that the fire in Yang's hair while using her semblance ''Burn'' become more obvious, but it was always there, just more subtle.

Been excitedly waiting for your reaction to volume 7, I hope volume 10 is out by the time you guys get through volume 9

Yangs hair has always done that it's just her semblance in new animation style. If you look carefully in clinic you see sort of xray images of penny most notably her weapon
This was such a needed "feelgood" ep with Penny being back. After all they been through, this was a huge W for them, as is V7 in genereal tbh. Yangs Hair always did that btw, It's her semblance (I think it was shown right? I remember it from her promo vid at least so this ain't new)
Fun Facts
Fact 1: The first 12 minutes of the episode were shown to the attendees of NYCC 2019.
Fact 2: A sneak peek of the episode's fight scene was played at RTX 2019 on July 5th, 2019. The clip was an unfinished work-in-progress at the time of it's showing, with the buildings and running civilians being untextured, some effects missing and reused music. The finished clip was made public on October 31st, 2019.
Fact 3: According to Miles Luna in the Volume 6 audio commentary, this episode or at least a portion of it was originally written as the finale for Volume 6, hence the initial announcement that Volume 6 would have 14 chapters but only released 13. It was turned into the Volume 7 premiere when it was decided "Our Way" provided a better ending to the previous volume. Originally it was going to end with Penny being revealed, dealing with the Grimm, and ending on "Salutations."
Fact 4: The Drunk Mann and his Drinking Buddy are caricatures of animators Joel Mann and Dustin Matthews, voiced by themselves.
Fact 5: It was a challenge in this episode to make it clear that Atlas is a new place for some characters, but a familiar one for several others, but that the Atlas in Volume 7 is a different one than what they remember.
Fact 6: This is the first episode where Jason Liebrecht voices Qrow.

Yang's hair has always ignited on fire when using her semblance. First did it in the Yellow Trailer.
Yangs fire heir is her semblance and remember her semblance is called burn, over time or with breakthrough semblance have to ability to grow stronger and even evolve into something more aligned with the user, it kinda funny that this is the second time rwby was arrested for doing the right thing, the moment penny spotted rwby always reminds of be tactical for a hug the moment i get home

So just to note most of this episode was intially planned and written as the S6 finale before being moved to being the V7 opener (it would of ended on the Penny Reveal in that version).

It's fun realising that Pietro knows team RWBY, and also made the arm, because of course Penny wouldn't keep her mouth shut. Of course she would have excitedbly been telling her father of her new friends (and her new bestie, one who even knew her secret and was fine with it).

i may be in the minority but the atlas arc is my favourite arc, especially ironwood his character arc is just amazing
- The haircuts and costume updates are a side effect of both a) being in a city where barbers and clothing stores are available, and b) actually having time (and money) to take care of that sort of thing (the last few seasons they've been moving around a lot and money's been tight.
- As others have pointed out, Yang's been doing the fire hair thing since the Yellow Trailer. It's just easier to see with the new animation style. Heck there were a few RWBY Chibi eps that played up her hair bursting into flame when she's mad (I recall the rest of RWBY poking her then roasting marshmellows over her flaming aura.
𝖍𝖊𝖑𝖑𝖆! Been waiting for this next season..though...with changes to the crew, or with other things coming within the narrative moving foward, I just can't wait for you guys to get caught up already XD this is technically my second "full" watch through of the Series after all XD

The Ace-Ops are Ironwood's best of the best. It's also a play on Aesop's Fables from Greek mythos.
seeing Penny in vol 7 still brings me to tears, as a person who watched every volume as they came out i had to wait years to see her again after vol 3, and i didn't know if she WOULD be back, just hoping against hope that maybe she might

i just love Penny so much, she's the most joyful, pure hearted character in the entire series
Yess volume 7 is finally here, i love all the volumes but this volume is definitely one of the top favorites of mine especially since a certain adorable girls return and ruby and penny is one of my most treasured duo/ best friends in the show so seeing them get to reunite 💕, some of my most favorite outfit and hairstyle changes this volume as well my favorite being ruby I just love the new look, but as always cant wait to see more.

Just a suggestion - perhaps you could review RWBY Fairy Tales. Composed by Ozpin as a proposed new class at Beacon. Some of the references may have some bearing in how the Endgame will be played out, but it's still interesting lore and it's pretty short. (I suspect "The Indecisive King" will be important if my hypothesis is correct.)
8:35 Pietro is spot on. Ironwood felt like he was in control during the festival and when it all went south, with many people dying under his watch, Salem's agents being able to undermine his every pre-caution, and fail so badly at his designated duty, he became more authoritative. You see it in Volume 4 when he aims to close Atlas' borders down shut down the dust trade with other kingdoms. Jacques is a jackass, and his reasons for hating Ironwood's decision stem more from greed than anything, but he was right to call James out for it.
He's pulling a circling of the wagons strategy with his military; bring all your valuable assets and people back home, amplify defenses, and prepare for the worst. However, his overprotectiveness has one key flaw... He is clearly not confident in the eyes of Mantle and thus they become scared and in turn Grimm sense that and have weakened and compromised Mantle. And to his credit, he's not neglecting Mantle since he has Penny acting as its protector.
The final shot of the intro always gives me Avengers assemble vibes.
Like I said, jubilation. Simultaneous smiles. :)

Penny's resurrection has one more element to how she is back. She WAS dead. In a few chapters you will get a crucial piece to Pennny's revival.
If you guys think you're popping off about new hairstyles, just imagine the reactions of the 1k+ of us who got to see the new designs at RTX 2019.
And yeah, Yang's hair thing is just an expression of her Semblance activating, kind of like her eyes turning red. It's technically always done that, but I guess the team wanted to make it more obvious so they dialed up the anime factor.

My only complaint with this season is that they quite literally doubled the number of characters in the main cast for this season.
But theyre all such fun and loveable characters that I can let it slide.
Get ready cause the next two seasons are a roller coaster!
it does seem a bit over-stuffed at times, but at least most of the core 8 have completed their important character arcs by this season, so the only ones who really suffer are fans who want their fav character to have more screentime

While it 'could' be simply an animation choice regarding Yang's hair, there is ALSO the chance that this is an evolution of her Semblance (as mentioned by Oscar/Ozpin) in Volume 5. We will see this manifest again with at least two more characters over time.
Secondly if you all have an interest, now that you are done with Volume 6 it may be worth doing a reaction to the RWBY / DC crossover movie Part 1. There are portions in that movie that refer to RWBY canon having taken place to this point.
And of course I recommend you don't watch/react to Part 2 until after you watch/react to Volume 9 as there are ALOT of canon references in that one.
They're better off waiting till they watch the show in its entireity that way they can watch both movies back-to-back (if they want). Plus technically the ending of part 1 is like... spoiler-ish since its technically mid this season ish

Had mixed feelings when this chapter released, mainly around Penny. On one hand, it was nice that Penny returned, to see that friendship restored. But, on the other hand, it felt cheap, in that Ruby's sorrow for Penny at the end of Volume 3 is now meaningless. To be honest, I probably would have preferred a different Penny built by the doctor (Nickle? Quarter? 😉), maybe a reminder of Penny but not the same personality or memories.
But that is my own personal opinion, so I know it might not be shared with everyone. But that is okay.

Honestly it's not all that noticable till later in the volume. And not that noticable overall. The voice really isn't that different. aka good voice actor.

I noticed it instantly. It's definitely different, and not quite as good, though I wouldn't call it trash. There's a bit of in-world justification for it though since now he's stopped drinking.
