    Brings back memories. I bought one new in 1974. Without a good battery mind would burn headlight out. It was a strong bike. I miss it. Thanks for video, watching it on Sunday before memorial day 2024.

      That’s awesome, thanks for sharing and thanks for watching! I love that these videos are stirring up memories for the guys that got to enjoy them when they were new. These are like time machines for me I always say!

    I recalling drooling over that bike at my local Yamaha dealer back in the day. I loved that green color. They had a little less power than the older DT360 but more than the DT400. Great bikes!

    • @Garage2Trail
      @Garage2Trail  Před rokem

      Oh I didn’t know they had more juice than the DT400! Sweet! More motivation to dig into the carb and see why it’s blubbering above half throttle…I have a couple ideas of what it can be.

    Beautiful job. Good feeling of satisfaction stripping a bike down to it's frame, refurbishing it and then reassembling it better than it was. Saved another one.

    Good job, I really like it. I have one that runs but is rough, looks like the headlight bucket saw a tree up close, right peg mount gone and some junk welded in its place, I have a 1100 original mi 76 400 and a running complete high mi 75 400 , also pretty nice 75 175 about 1300 mi and a completely disassembled 76 250, may have to use it's frame and headlight for the 360 after see yours 😅😅

    Dude, I think that I owned that bike. I remember the kickstand breaking off and the poor welding repairs. Had tons of fun on it and sold it in 1977 to buy a new DT 400D. Thanks for the trip down memory lane

      Did you happen to paint the bike yellow or have to repair the case where the chain hit around the sprocket by any chance? That would be crazy if it was yours! Thanks for watching 👍

      I didn’t paint the bike when I owned it. The kid I sold it to had it stolen from him. Any thing is possible l guess

    Another outstanding executed job and I congratulate you for the outcome, this Yamaha looks amazing and the bike has a great sound of the two stroke,any minor adjustment without doubt you will get perfectly well. Perhaps dropping 4 ounces of marvel mystery oil will do good to lubricate the piston & rings. Next tankful of gas maybe 4 ounces of Chevron Techron…

    • @Garage2Trail
      @Garage2Trail  Před 5 měsíci

      Thank you!! Yeah I’ll be premixing it so I’ll make sure it’s at least 32:1 to keep that top end lubed up nicely at all times.

  • @user-ol5zr3pb9n
    @user-ol5zr3pb9n Před 4 měsíci

    Nice job that you got done. If I may suggest running some premium gas with 4 ounces of Chevron Techron after any other carb adjustment. Once in a while with fuel using a little bit of marvel mystery oil in the full tank of fuel. Congratulations for another very well done great job.

      Awesome! I just also recently redid the top end on a 2002 XR200 that I picked up last winter after the previous owner said it dropped a valve. Just sold it before heading to mid Ohio to make room for more projects. I’m always looking for a 79 RM80 to redo. That was my first bike in 1993 when I was 13.

      @@Garage2Trail Yes! It has good bones. Kind of a good from far, but far from good type of bike. Needs some things, but I've already made a ton of progress rebuilding the forks. Tank has some rust in it and needs a new throttle/oil cable. This is a great video series to reference the wiring routing so much thanks! I'll be heading to Mid-Ohio this month looking for some small parts.

    Had a 1978 DT100 brand new in 1979. I was 12 and the sounds bring back memories. The pitch was higher but similar idea, these didn't have power bands like the YZs did. Any street legal 2 stroke is awesome IMO.

      That’s great! I really fell in love with these DTs over the last couple years and they are right up there with my other favorite bikes (XR’s and XL’s) now. Check out some of the other ones I’ve done on my channel if you get time. I just got a 1975 DT125 going and the video for part 2 will be out tomorrow afternoon.
