I'm in my 40s but when I was a kid in the 80s/90s there were more refill packs of laundry detergent that you just add water to. Saved so much plastic. It was like this with fabric softener and dish liquid too. I've noticed they are starting to come back...why they stopped I will never know!
I'm liquid detergent all the way. I'm rather meticulous about the way I separate laundry (my family says crazy...I like meticulous better). Laundry packs Tide only! I have the dryer balls but I donât think they do much for static for me. I cut the dryer sheet in half to help with the environment as much as I can.
Hi Melissa, so I'm a liquid gal but am trying to switch to the sheets, you're Canadian so I'm sure you've heard about "True Earth". For sure the laundry sheets are fab for traveling. Concerning stinky washers, I'm assiduous in wiping down my machine after my wash day but also cleaning my washer every 3 months, since weâre only 2 (if your a family of 4 or more, it should be done monthly). I have a friend that's an appliance repair guy and he gave me this recipe (funny, I'm maybe giving you a homemade recipe, weird). You throw these ingredients directly in your washer, not mixed togetherâŠ1 cup white vinegar & 1/2 cup baking soda and start your machine on "Clean Washer" cycle or a short cycle. IAlso, in my case once a year, I do the heavy-duty clean and this is 1 cup bleach & 1/2 cup baking soda on the same cycle. He also says concerning the detergent drawers should be well cleaned every time you do these clean-upsâŠif needed get the old toothbrush out and clean. And yes, do always leave the door and the detergent drawer also open. So my last suggestion is the problem of clothes lying around since you judge you can wear them again - fixed that problem! My hubby and I each have a place for us with two hooks; mine is behind the bedroom door and my husbandâs is in a small free wall space in our closet. You want to wear your kit another day, 1 hook for your pants, 1 hook for your top - problem solved! Hope this helps you out, and all you out there that are struggling like us all đ
Iâm a laundry sheets fan. It makes my life easier and I know that Iâm not contributing to the land fills. I use the unscented âEarth Breezeâ I love it.
I made my own powdered detergent, but my hubby will only use liquid. I recently bought detergent sheets and love them! Hubby still wont use them, though! LOL! I've always used Lestoil for greasy stains (Dad used it on his work clothes as he was an HVAC tech). Oxyclean is a nice boost and is amazing if you want to soak really dirty clothes in a bucket/bin. A couple years ago I learned about using hot water on a fresh blood stain. You rinse the stain under hot running water. WOW did it work well! Old stains, maybe not, but I was surprised. My family uses cold water almost exclusively, as well as gentle cycles. We hang our clothes inside mostly (pollen allergies) but towels and sheets get hot water and the dryer. I finally convinced Hubby that he doesn't need to wash every piece of clothing every time he wears it. Unless he's sweating or it gets dirty, just hang it to "air out" (he's OCD so it took a while). He realizes that his clothing lasts longer when he does this! đ
Ms. Maker, what a great line!!! "Being on the high seas in the middle of a storm" That is priceless!! Well spoken, oh, and I have purchased two orders of your micro fiber clothes. Great!

I used liquid laundry detergent until I found laundry detergent strips or sheets and I love them ! They come in a cardboard box that is super light (no plastic, no water) and you can easily tear them in half for a smaller or bigger load. Added bonus: they're so easy to pack for a weekend or holidays away (just in case we run out of clean clothes with 2 little kids) đ

We use powder since it comes in a cardboard box. We are trying and cut down on plastic packaging detergent comes in. Love all the forms of detergent though!
The pods now come in a cardboard box in Ireland so it probably won't be long before they are available everywhere. That will give you more of a choice of which to use. Personally I buy whichever is on offer at the time. X
Another great video with awesome tips. I am all for liquid laundry detergent, recently started to try the tru earth laundry sheets⊠I will stick to liquid đâ€
I used liquid detergent for years and had a lot of gunk piling up in the drum everytime. I switched to Powder and the issue got solved in a couple of cycles. There is also this hack : you occasionaly do an empty load with a dishwasher tablet!
We use liquids and powders. Towels should never smell, neither should the machine, just do a hot cycle with extra rinses now and then. It`s when we get too enthusiastic about saving water and energy, or overfill the machine things go wrong. Quick cycles are not for full loads of dirty laundry. Hacks are nice and a must some times, but the basic should be simple and work too.
Iâm a laundry sheet user, however, Iâm inclined to use something more simple and natural like vinegar, baking soda, or maybe Castile soap instead of any detergent. Would you be able to talk about using those kind of things in a washing machine? Will that provide any cleaning power for everyday loads and/or will that cause any machine damage over time?
Spray 'n Wash Stain Stick is also a miracle stain remover, you can pretreat and don't have to wash it right away, Bounce Pet Hair and Lint Guard Mega Dryer Sheets with 3X Pet Hair Fighters, I cut them in half though also miracle worker and liquid All free & clear detergent.
Im a laundry Liquid person, but if u say the packs are good, then I will definitely try them out!!! Btw I loved your video smmm! thank u, I really adore your channel so much!â„â„â„
Oh my word, your washing machine and drier are HUGE. Industrial size. How much does it cost to run those machines please. $8 per drier load in New Zealand. Yes, that is EIGHT DOLLARS. And our machines are less than half the size of your own. Great video thanks so much.
I used to have a sign on my washer door to leave it open because my husband also kept closing it! Now I have one of those magnetic things that holds the door from swinging all the way open and the husband leaves it alone.
I use liquid, fragrance -free laundry soap. It dissolves well in my top- loading machine and in the cokd water I use. I only use half the reccommended amount.
Liquid detergent for me. I measure out 2T of liquid in a measuring spoon per load. I find the lines in the cap too hard to see and I figure thatâs done on purpose so Iâll use more of the product.
Laundry packs are very bad for the environment with all the micro plastics they put into the water (which compounds the plastics that come from our clothes). I like Seventh Generation liquid since it is plant based and they have a great recyclable bottle. Also I use Fels Naptha bar for stain removal, it takes a little elbow grease but it works really well.
You talk about fabric weights. This is how I separate my clothes. It's a separation of both color and weight. Jeans Khaki pants Light-colored t-shirts Light-colored button down/pullover shirts (I don't know what they're made of) Dark-colored shirts and pants (it's really 1 pair of pants, but mixing t-shirts with non-t-shirts) Bed sheets, pillow cases and blanket (usually 1 full set at a time) Socks, underwear and all types of towels; and I don't remember off-hand where the bath mats, dish mats, scrub squares and microfiber cloths go, but it's somewhere near this grouping Sweatshirts go whereever it's convenient (I really only have 2 - one gray and one blue) Cleaning rags from my cleaning lady are always separate, usually right after she leaves, and sometimes followed by a washing machine cleaner.
I personally feel like I get more out of liquid than packets. I would prefer powder over anything else but since the price of power has skyrocketed I use powder. Thanks for your videos
Have always used laundry powder detergent. I actually have to buy the Tide Free & Gentle which was recommended by my dermatologist because all other detergents irritate my skin. As always I picked up some useful information. Thank you!
Get yourself some soap nuts. They work great and are the absolute best for sensitive skin. I started using them for my baby with eczema and now we use them for everything.
Laundry powder all the way! It's a little harder to find in some stores, so my default is liquid. I cannot convince myself that packs are the way to go for some reason
Laundry powder person I am đ What I'd like to know is how do I clean caked-on washing powder residue off the detergent tray? I've tried a million different things and none of them work.
I need to get some dryer balls, I hate when I fold my laundry and get to my sweater, it's so static-y and I always end up having to shock myself in either the dryer door when i close it or the doorknob. đđ I don't want to keep shocking myself
Currently Iâm using liquid laundry detergent. Itâs easier to lug to the laundromat. I tend to stash my clean clothes on the unused side of my bed. I keep saying Iâm going to fold and hang everything. Itâll happen eventually. đ
QUESTION: Do you wash towels in Hot or Warm water? Do you wash sheets in Hot or Warm water? Do you wash socks in Hot or Warm? And do you wash underpants in Hot or Warm? Thank you!

Same here. I really tried to love the tru earth sheets...but just, no. đ
I use Method liquid concentrate. I LOVE your videos! Just ordered your book!
I always do the towel roll for all of my hand crocheted or knitted sweaters
I love me some powder⊠but I also love liquid. I actually feel like it works better than pods and powder.
I used liquid detergent for years and had a lot of gunk piling up in the drum everytime. I switched to Powder and the issue got solved in a couple of cycles. There is also this hack : you occasionaly do an empty load with a dishwasher tablet!
Switched from liquid to packs. đ
I just LOVE that you call yourself an âaccidental cleaning expertâ!! đ
Liquid detergent and softener. Please do a video on the coldwash. I feel lost there : what type of laundry can i really COLDWASH ? Thank you
Excellent tips.. Thank You so much đđ
Im a laundry Liquid person, but if u say the packs are good, then I will definitely try them out!!! Btw I loved your video smmm! thank u, I really adore your channel so much!â„â„â„
This was good. It reminded me that I left something in the dryer from earlier today.
I enjoyed watching this tricks and help tips.....thank you.. looking forward for more..I am using powdered detergent For washing.
Oh my word, your washing machine and drier are HUGE. Industrial size. How much does it cost to run those machines please. $8 per drier load in New Zealand. Yes, that is EIGHT DOLLARS. And our machines are less than half the size of your own. Great video thanks so much.
Thanks for sharing friends đđđ
I use laundry strips. It's only me & I like the idea of no plastics.
Use detergent sheets. Can break into small sheets and bring when I travel or for small loads. Light.
Im definitely a powder girl. I love making my own laundry detergent.
Do you have tips on how to clean microfiber cloths? I feel like mine get crusty over time, though I wash them on cold in a microfiber washing bag.
I used to have a sign on my washer door to leave it open because my husband also kept closing it! Now I have one of those magnetic things that holds the door from swinging all the way open and the husband leaves it alone.
Happy valentines idol @melissa maker from Filipino fan in Philippines đ”đ đ
"Mount Washmore" LOL!!
I have top load washing machine and I use powder detergent.
Liquid. And the detergent is automatically measured by the machine. Only special loads like wool get manually done.
Turn your garments inside out to wash to help prevent pilling
Laundry packs are very bad for the environment with all the micro plastics they put into the water (which compounds the plastics that come from our clothes). I like Seventh Generation liquid since it is plant based and they have a great recyclable bottle.
Also I use Fels Naptha bar for stain removal, it takes a little elbow grease but it works really well.
You talk about fabric weights. This is how I separate my clothes. It's a separation of both color and weight.
Jeans
Khaki pants
Light-colored t-shirts
Light-colored button down/pullover shirts (I don't know what they're made of)
Dark-colored shirts and pants (it's really 1 pair of pants, but mixing t-shirts with non-t-shirts)
Bed sheets, pillow cases and blanket (usually 1 full set at a time)
Socks, underwear and all types of towels; and I don't remember off-hand where the bath mats, dish mats, scrub squares and microfiber cloths go, but it's somewhere near this grouping
Sweatshirts go whereever it's convenient (I really only have 2 - one gray and one blue)
Cleaning rags from my cleaning lady are always separate, usually right after she leaves, and sometimes followed by a washing machine cleaner.
Thanks for the tip. Iâll try that. Wendy
I use laundry bags for different fabric weights
I use Tru Earth laundry sheets. Better for the environment and less mess!
Laundry powder all the way! It's a little harder to find in some stores, so my default is liquid. I cannot convince myself that packs are the way to go for some reason
Liquid girl here. đđđ
True Earth!
Laundry powder person I am đ What I'd like to know is how do I clean caked-on washing powder residue off the detergent tray? I've tried a million different things and none of them work.
Love your great tips â€
I'm a laundry liquid and powdered person.
But I prefer the liquid
I use liquid laundry detergent. It's costs less per load vs. Pods.
I need to get some dryer balls, I hate when I fold my laundry and get to my sweater, it's so static-y and I always end up having to shock myself in either the dryer door when i close it or the doorknob. đđ I don't want to keep shocking myself
I use powder to control the amount an save water
When mixing these concoctions , do they have a shelf life and how long on average do they stay potent?
Currently Iâm using liquid laundry detergent. Itâs easier to lug to the laundromat. I tend to stash my clean clothes on the unused side of my bed. I keep saying Iâm going to fold and hang everything. Itâll happen eventually. đ
QUESTION: Do you wash towels in Hot or Warm water? Do you wash sheets in Hot or Warm water? Do you wash socks in Hot or Warm? And do you wash underpants in Hot or Warm? Thank you!
Detergent sheets!
To keep my washer from getting stinky I always keep the door open and atleast once a month I will run a cycle just as normal just WITHOUT clothes
