  • This video covers removing the old firewall, and beginning the process of test-fitting up the new one. There is a lot of fitting and adjusting to make sure things interact properly before even getting to the point where welding is possible. If you skip this step, you wind up with problems down the line, so I try to fit up as many things as I can to make sure they interact correctly first.
    Thanks for watching!

Nice to see the progress and you taking the time to show it all and to get everything right, going to be a great and straight car!

Thanks! Trying to balance progress and not being a perfectionist and knowing the ‘good enough’ point

Haven’t finished the video yet BUT, those outer lips of the firewall should be rolled up to match the torque boxes.
Also drill the spot welds holding the tunnel to the support then you can raise the tunnel to let the floor underneath.
Oh yeah, be sure to check your wipers, make sure the transmissions come up through the center of the upper cowl.
    Really cool progress.

Yep, I’m guessing that they made it to fit a few configurations, so they didn’t even put the lips on the lower sections. You’ll see how I got under the floor…lifting the tunnel might have been easier 😅, but it would have been one more thing to put back.
Yep, I saw your video about aligning the wiper holes, and I’m definitely going to fit things up several times getting the cowl halves in as well!

Wow you have definitely made some progress! From the looks of it I think yours was easier to fab up then mine was. I actually had the same issue trying to get the firewall under the tunnel. I didn’t think to cut it that high. I did do a cut on both sides but it only went up about 4 1/2 inches. I was so happy to get past that lol but to be honest I haven’t had anything that was an easy fit on this build. But anyways, yours is looking really good. You will be done before you know it

I think the only reason it went under is because I had so much of the floor gone already. If I did both sides, maybe I could have gotten away with smaller cuts, but it’s in :) . In my experience, even the good reproduction panels require some fiddling to get them right. The roof for me was the best fit panel I had - essentially zero messing around and it laid within 1/16” before clamping. Everything else has been a “project”! I just (about) finished welding up the firewall today, so that’ll be finished up and on video in the near future. Thanks for watching!

Damn and my floor support i installed was so ugly.... i feel ashamed haha... But in the end i guess itll never be seen.. even if you try to look.

Ha, I keep telling myself that about my welds “nobody’s ever gonna see this, it doesn’t need to look perfect”. As long as it holds the floor and gets you on the road!
