- Want to do mission planning on your DJI Mavic 3 Pro, Mini 4 Pro, and Air 3 for free? Want to do automated mapping in order to generate 3d maps and photogrammetry models? Photogrammetry and 3d mapping is an essential part of a part 107 drone pilots toolset.
I made a free tool called www.waypointmap.com/ It lets you do mission planning, automate mapping, on drones with no sdk support. WaypointMap is a great tool to generate your flight plans.

Make 3d models with your drone with aerialmodel.com. This is an updated tutorial to include a lot of the newer features, and more clarification on different parts of the installation.
You updated it since my comment?
@jaystechvault I just learned of your video today and this is great. Very excited to try this out. For photogrammetry, do you know of any programs that can generate a 3d model and provide measurements say of a building?
aerialmodel.com
I'm going to support you right now before even downloading a single thing just because of the last few minutes of video. Im always appreciative of skills and knowledge I cant fathom that comes more readily to others, haha just figuring out a FC board and putting ELRS on my first freestyle drone had me almost in tears hahaha
I haven't gone through this version of your post. I will, but I really, really really want to do this. It is so cool.
Thank you for this! This is absolutely amazing and opens up a whole new level of products that we an exploit with the NON SDK drones. DJI really burned us on that, but you figured out how to make it happen!
Amazing, thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you! I haven't had the chance to try it out, so I'm hoping I have the mental capacity to get from A to Z. I've done my research, but nothing compares to what you're providing with the Mavic 3 Pro, particularly in terms of drone mapping. It's increasingly more difficult, carving out my portion of this, very niche, means of making a living. At times, I wonder if an enterprise model would have been a better choice. However, seeing how sexy footage looks with that 4/3 sensor, I'm reminded of just how dope it really is. Your insights and contributions are truly amazing my friend.
works great! have premium version. keep up with super work you do on that!
안녕하세요~한국에서 rtk 기능을 가진 드론이 너무 비싸고 측량과 매핑에 쓰려고 했는데 이런 좋은 채널이 있어서 너무나 다행입니다.
Hello, I am from South Korea. These days, i have been looking for drones and surveying program which can survey and do mapping on the land and construction sites. but drones with rtk function are too expensive to me. I am happy to know this youtube channel today. thank you for making these channel . thank you ~감사합니다~
This is awesome! Thank you! I have a Mavic 3 Classic. It has a great camera, it'd be a shame to not use it for mapping and modeling. I'll definitely be testing this out.
I cannot move the file to my RC 2 remote. When I select the KMZ file and select "copy to" the RC option doesn't even show up. Any suggestions?
That sounds like instructions for the RC not the rc2
@@JaysTechVault I have this same problem and I am using the RC2 - has the integrated screen. I can access the SD card and I see the waypoint file, but whether I hit 'move to' or 'copy to', I am never presented with the RC2 option to move the file to the local storage and away from the SD card.
(Have an Air 3)
You are following the wrong instructions.
Exceptional work! Just a couple of thoughts. I have an RC-Pro with an Mavic 3. That option isn't presently on your list. Also, I'd like to suggest that the reverse points option be included in the free option for those of us "Down under" and in the southern hemisphere. Also, I thought there is a limit of 200 points/actions with these generated flight paths - which could be the reason the controller crashes?/can't open the generated flight path. Keep up the good work! I haven't had a chance to try this all out yet, but love it.
I’m from down under and going to give this a try I. The Mavic 3 classic
Hey Jays, will you be looking into creating one for facade inspection. However, that would actually need to know the location and building's height and stuff. Something that another software I noticed is able to pull. They probably used an API of another service.
That is a premium feature that I would be willing to pay.
what software do you use for mapping new to this got my mavic 3 a fews years ago just for fun but want to use it on farms to map are field's so just wondering if there is perfered software for this
Hi, very good vid, I'm just wondering would this software work on the air 2s, with a n1 controller? Thanks in advance.
This method supports large scale misions, like 200 acres?
Excellent video, I did it with mi DJI Mini 4 Pro, Do you know how to do a complete photo with multiple photos?
Amazing info! I just have a question, I’m so new in this drone and mapping thing. I want to know if it’s possible after the mission planning, process the obtained data to know measurements of the field. I’m a farmer so I need to measure areas in acres of hectares for my fertilizer and pesticide program. Its 2D info, I don’t really need 3D models. Hope you can help me, greetings from Mexico!
I guess the most important question is what site do you use to process the images
look at the pinned comment
A lot of people are having the same problem, I believe that this cannot be done using the standard RC Controller (the one with the built in screen, no antenna). There is no android directory on the internal storage if you are using it with a mini 3 or the mini 3 pro. At least that is my case.
Wondering on the circle tool. What advantage does thar provide over using POI? The photogrametry applications are a great option, nice work!
Poi does timed shots, where as the circle tool can do pictures every distance. Resulting in higher overlap
Hello Jay. Do you teach in-person training for drone mapping and photogrammetry ?
I was going to put out some free tutorial videos over the summer when my class load is lighter.
thank you so much , I have a question about time shot , is it taking 12MP or 48MP photos? can it be adjusted?
Yeah you can do either
Hi Jay, thank you for such a great video, and for putting out the web app to create the waypoints for mapping. As a newby, I am following the instruction in the video and I have a question, in the setup of the RC controller, I can follow how you go from saving the downloaded file in the computer to the SD card, move the SD card to the controller and then ... -- HOW IN THIS WORLD DO I GET TO THE NEXT SCREEN (IS THAT IN THE CONTROLLER ITSELF?) TO REPLACE THE JUST SAVED KZM FILE? I CANNOT GET HOW TO NAVIGATE, OR AM I TRYING TO NAVIGATE IN THE WRONG DEVICE? FOR TIME REFERENCE IN THE VIDEO 10:10 TO 10:22 ... EDITED -- I solved that part. It was my SD card was not setup for the RC.
BUT ... When I did copy the ONE file output-4.KMZ, I got two files in my SD Card the output-4.kmz (1.89kb) and a second one ._output-4.kmz (4.10kb) which of them do I "copy to.."
and replace in the RC folder?
With the premium version, can the drone be instructed to stop and take a picture?
Will this work with the AIR2S?
First off this is absolutely awsome! I have already started the premium membership, I'm struggling with all the folders that are under the waypoint folder on my controller do I need all of these can I delete them and only have one that I work out of?
Yes
Can i apply this method on mini 3 pro?
Amazing, thank you for your work! This is a great and much needed solution. Do you plan to support the DJI RC PRO 2 controller (Mavic 3 CINE)? I will be grateful for the info!
It should work with those devices. Just follow the RC 2 tutorial.
@@JaysTechVault thanks a lot!
i draw a circle and it puts the waypoints somwhere else...am i missing something?
Hello Jay, my name is Jairo, I am writing to you from Colombia, I congratulate you on the application, I am going to try it and then be able to make the monthly payments. I would like to ask you something. When creating the mesh for the trajectory in the application, the lines appear straight, but when loading it in the DJI application, the trajectories appear curved; If so, we would be taking images that do not correspond to the area to be worked on and we could have a different route than the one initially planned. Can this be solved in some way? thank you.
Hey Jay, thank you and your team for this. I'm attempting with DJI RC2... is that possible? and if so, where are you in this tutorial at 10:22 to navigate the files? Is that within in the controller?
I plugged in the controller via usb c to a computer. It shows up as a usb device.
@@JaysTechVault This must be only for a PC, I don't think it works on Mac
@StevenKelly-ki9tq does not work on Mac
Can mini 3 pro use this
I have replaced the KMZ file (from sd to internal), but I still see the old waypoints. I have tried so many time. Are you sure it's working on the Mavic 3 Pro ? I see also 2 files when adding the kmz to the sd.
Do you have discord, join our server so I can help you easier.
What software would you recommend for modeling with photogrammetry a 10000m² site? It's a one shot project so I don't need a long term subscription.
I don’t have it ready but I’m working on a service with a much smaller subscription,
I STILL think it's a shame that the AIR 3 isn't a good mapping drone for some software, I really want to do it. Have you guys done a mapping mission with the AIR 3 for a client, and what was/is the outcome? Love your channel!
I have a mini 4 pro with rc2 controller. I can’t seem to find a way point folder when I try to transfer from an SD card via the controller. And when I try to do it the way you do on a computer I do see the way point folder when searching files on a computer. After copying it in and then changing the names to match and deleting the old one and then go look for it, it doesn’t change anything when I check way points. It’s still the same as the old file. That’s with drone on or off. All in all I’m feeling like I just paid the $15 for your premium subscription for no reason at this point. I followed the instructions to a T with constant rewinding because you fly thru it so fast. I recommend flying thru the sky not a tutorial lol something updated and a little slower might help. I don’t know tho. Maybe DJI updates there firmware to prevent over writing files like this? Sucks cause I was really looking forward to using this.
If I am understanding you correctly, the drone in the free version will start taking pictures on the waypoint mission as long you have the time photo set. I see on the waypoint mission there is no camera action set, is this correct?
The free version just means you have to do a lot manually. Nothing is explicitly paywalled except I think the automatic altitude adjustment and vertical paths (north south)
@@JaysTechVault I do plan on getting Premium but first what to try it out. Thanks for getting back to me.
So I have on the free version to start taking photos and stop making photos manually? thanks
You use the “timed shots” feature instead so it automatically takes pictures every few seconds.
In my case, and surely I am not the only one, it is not possible to pay USD15 a month.
I sometimes do photogrametry, but lets say around 5 times on average a year.
therefore, those $15 become into a dear option.
If your group consider the fact of paying some amount per, let us say, 5 flights, that would solve problems and you would attract more users
I believe you can cancel at any time..
Might, but it is not the point subscribing and unsubscribing everytime... Perhaps lots of times. It makes not much sense to me
$15 is peanuts. It's not even half a tank of fuel. But cancel when you don't need it, and pay when you do.
@@velociraptor5962 my calculations are:
USD 180 a year... 5 photogrammetry actions... That's USD 36 for each action....
Yeah, I am totally aware that I can unsubscribe and subscribe again.... But as a commercial developer, I like things well done.
This was a suggestion though
@@Moroder_Drone if you can't break even at 36$ I'm doubting your business as a whole. Don't be lazy, it's extremely fair already
Hi, i am having some problems. I just bought my mavic 3 pro. I have tried to do what you did, I did a flight with arround 5 points in waypoint ad the RC Controler but when i went to look in the micro sd at the laptop the folder waypoint did not appear. Could someone help me?
Make sure you select the internal storage and not the sd card
Is there an area limitation for plotting an area? I just tried to do a large area, and it does not generate a flight path.
For super large areas yes how big are you trying to fly?????
Does this work for a mavic 3 classic?
Yes
I cant access that white menu from my RC . WTH??
I paid for premium and spent a good amount of time planning missions. When I go to save the KMZ file to my phone, there's no Wayline_mission folder located in DJI Fly on my Iphone. I've saved a mission on my RC2 prior to trying to save this. Can you help a brotha out?
are you on an android phone? Or iOS? Have you made a waypoint mission on your phone yet? Also discord is best
Sorry, IOS...Iphone 13 and macbook air. Was trying to figure out where to post my question in discord? which channel? @@JaysTechVault
I am a new customer and fly a brand new DJI mavic Pro 3 with the DJI RC controller.
Right out of the box I was able to browse the waypoint folder, but now that it has received updates from DJI I can no longer access the Waypoint folder.
Tried different ways including using connecting to my pc.
Looks like I can no longer use the method you have documented to get the generated mapping file to DJI device
Has anyone reported this issue?
Make sure you aren’t browsing the sd card and instead the internal storage
I can see both and the directory is not available, but I can see my test waypoints on the remote so they exist but no longer accessible after the drone updated.
@@DigitiFilms I just updated everything on mine and I can still access it. You are in "internal storage" > Android > Data > dji.go.v5 > files > waypoint
how can you select some points to modify something that affects only to those?
Thanks
why I cant generated?
Help Please - I followed all the steps but once I save the file to the SD card and move to the controller, when I select where to move the file to, I don't see the RC option....it just shows the disk(sd). help thanks
Are you on the RC 2? (Antenna on the top) or RC also join the discord
Yes RC2 with antennas, the video shows a simple plug in the SD card and choose from the menu to move the file from the SD to the "RC" but I don't see any "RC" area to move to.... @@JaysTechVault
Ah, you are following the RC tutorial not the RC TWO tutorial. Plug it into a pc via the usb c port on the bottom.
oh crap, I see, I only have apple.....@@JaysTechVault
Used a friends PC, i basically loaded three missions in 3 minutes. Flew them all in a day. One was for a 60 acre map. Worked like a charm!!!
💪💪💪
I think DJI has blocked access to the device storage when copying files.
Are you on an android device trying to copy from your pc?
@@JaysTechVault are you still able to transfer files from the SD card to the RC?
Although I was really impressed, I was disappointed to find out that premium requires a monthly payment. I would have preferred a one-time purchase option. As a hobbyist it would be cool if you moved the "Generate every point with action (picture capture)" to free version.
On the RC controller I have it connected to desktop and select android/data/dji.go.v5/files and then I can't see waypoint folder, it doesn't exist and I Have 3 previous waypoints missions saved. My kmz file I have copied across to files but can't save to waypoint folder as it doesn't exist, any suggestions ?
People prefer to overpay in order to subsidize DJI's military and Industrial divisions
I don't think this actually works with the Mavic 3 pro?
It does
Can't open the SD interface on my RC
Are you on the RC or RC 2?
Rc
Doesn't work I have the air 3 rc 2 and when I try the same thing as you there's no waypoints area maybe they changed it so you can't do it anymore
Are you plugging it into your computer?
@@JaysTechVault no my phone
I ment there's no waypoints area on my rc2 remote. I was able to get the kmz file to the remote but there's no waypoint area where I can do the copy and replace
Have you join the discord server? You made at least 1 waypoint already?
I followed all the same things you did going into the djigo5 and then into
Data then into editor but I couldn't find my saved waypoints that I had made earlier to do the copy and rename thing you did.
I can tell this is genius....but I think you jump around the screen way to much and too fast....I am familiar with way points on mini 4.....so it is not completely foreign to me, .but you really are just showing very quickly what the program can do, which is remarkable but not how to set it up and use it I sincerely do wish you good luck, but I think if you want it to catch on that you have to present it so people can learn it
I agree 100% I love that I can do this but you Americans talk too fast and you click around the screen too fast, have to watch a few times but I will get there soon enough and am even going to pay the $15. Love from New Zealand
Just slow down the playback speed…
@husseinzakir6519 good point lol
mavic 3 pro, using dji rc, windows pc, and android phone. I cannot make this work. I have 2 subscriptions because i messed up with my sign up. I didn't cancel because i didn't know I would be unsuccessful. I wish this would had been as easy as i thought. But i cannot make it work. Maybe someone email me?
Have you tried reaching out through the correct help channels of discord?
