- In this video I go through a few waypoint missions and show you step by step how I set them up to capture some awesome video. If that interests you, I highly encourage you to watch this video!!
I have watched so many waypoint videos and I had no idea you could do all of the cool things you showed. Everyone else just covers the basics. This is awesome thanks so much.
Agreed.
Good to see your video as it's much better than others brief overview. Good to see YYC. Might have to upgrade from my M3P bought exactly a year ago here in Thailand which has now travelled from CNX to Georgia, Armenia and Phuket and done remarkably well. Last month I filmed in fireworks and lanterns for the Loy Krathong festival.
That's great, I'm glad it was helpful! Thanks for the comment 👍
That's awesome, getting to film in all those locations! And the M3P is a great drone, I really liked mine. The M4P however, is a worth while upgrade in my opinion, I like the additional features and for me there was a noticeable difference in the range between the 2.
So one question when you set it to continue the mission after it loses signal and you have your global safety setting to return home when signal is lost does it auto return home when the mission is done if it still doesn’t have signal?
That's a good question, I haven't had that happen. It would makes sense to default to the global setting in that situation.
This the most advanced waypoint tutorial I have seen. Thanx for going beyond the basics.
You're very welcome! I appreciate the comment👍
This video was extremely well made and you explained it in such simple terms. The intro video was an awesome edit. I just got my Mini 4 and I didn’t realize you could plan waypoint flights sitting at home in the recliner. From your video now I really want to plan these flights myself. Thanks for your effort on this one. I’m subbing, I want to see what else you will do.
Yes, planning waypoint missions when you're not flying, is so much easier, and it works quite well. I'm glad you found this video helpful!
The best tutorial I've seen on Waypoints - thanks for sharing!

❤ Love it. First time I have seen this. Thanks for sharing 😊
That's great! I'm glad you enjoyed it😀
Excellent tutorial - many thanks!
That last shot - aka the 'Vertigo' effect from the Hitchcock film of the same name - is so effective and yet so easy to achieve with the M4P. ❤
I didn't know that bit about Alfred Hitchcock, but I should have known it was someone like him to come up with that. Thankyou!
@@CreateandKaptivate it's also called a dolly zoom, or push-pull. Not sure if Hitchcock "invented" it but it was in Vertigo. Also Jaws..
Good to see your video as it's much better than others brief overview. Also good to see my "other" home area of YYC. Might have to upgrade from my M3P bought exactly a year ago here in Thailand which has now travelled from CNX to Georgia, Armenia and Phuket and done remarkably well. Last month I filmed in fireworks and lanterns for the Loy Krathong festival.
Looks cold back there though, it's 30c here LOL.

That's awesome, Glad you enjoyed it! And thanks for the comment👍
Thanks, and a very cool dolly zoom effect🤙
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment 🤙
Nice video. A few notes, you can manually add waypoints and POIs by taping on the map where you would like to place them. You dont have to fly to the actual waypoints to add them. In fact, you can create an entire waypoint mission without having the drone in the air. This can save a lot of time and battery. Just be extra careful that you set the correct altitude for the waypoints and there are no obstructions on your flight path. Then its easy to make any quick adjustments when you fly the mission.
Yeah, that makes it much easier and like you said saves a lot of time and battery.
Excellent demo of Waypoint missions, the best I watched. I'm subbing. Greetings from Montreal, Canada.
That's awesome thanks! Greetings from Calgary!
Very well explained video. Thanks a lot! I will try this out on my real estate videos.

Thanks! I hope it inspired some ideas 🙂
good video... thank you
You're welcome, glad you liked it!
As someone who very rarely (if ever!) shoots drone video (photos only here) that was nonetheless really interesting to watch on what can be done using WP's! Very slick!
Interesting, photos only, that's something I don't hear too often. But nice to get feedback from someone like yourself, thanks!
Nice 😍👍
Cool video, easy to follow, thanks.. yes I subscribed 😊😊

Great channel! I love this tutorial. I'm a new subscriber. Keep up the good work. Us small channels need to stick together ✌️
Thanks! I really appreciate the support 🤘
Really useful video, especially the ability to be able to create flight path before being at the location. Thanks for the info!
You're very welcome!
Hi buddy, just subscribed, nice video, explanations and content. Catch you on the next one.
Awesome thank you!
Opening saying you CAN'T capture these shots... just become a better Pilot 😅. Dang, these missions are awesome... I need to SDK my Mini 3 Pro if it can do things like this. Now I have drone envy.
Fantastic Lesson
Haha yeah, I hear what you're saying. The extra features available on the Mini 4 Pro are certainly tempting. Thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it👍
Excellent! I don’t subscribe to much but I did your Chanel after watching this. One question. I’ve heard that obstacle avoidance, while running a mission, only halts/stops if an obstacle is detected. Regardless of if we selected for it to go around. Have you seen this or tried this out to see if it just stops? If so, and it happens while out of signal, that would not be good.
Nice and clear, thanks. What software are you using for editing?
I use DaVinci Resolve for my editing.
Great video the vertigo shot was amazing but I did not understand how you put the 2 waypoints together to make one video. It would be great to see how you put them both together or could you explain a little more on that please. Thank you I have subscribed.
You actually only need to use 1 waypoint mission with 2 waypoints to create the shot. The 1st waypoint you are close to your subject at 1x zoom, and take note of where you subject is in the frame. In my case roughly where the top and bottom of the building are. Then zoom in to 3x and back up until the subject is framed the same as in the 1st waypoint, then set your 2nd waypoint here keep the zoom at 3x. So as the drone flies backwards it will simultaneously zoom in creating the vertigo effect. You may need to play around with you start and end points a bit to get the exact shot you're looking for. Hopefully that helps. 🙂
@@CreateandKaptivate thank you very much for the updated advise I really appreciate it.
Hey there, great guide! Quick question - are points of interest only for fixed locations?
I was hoping to do a waypoint route, and track a jogger for a video. Since they're moving, I assume it doesn't work? I checked my drone and it doesn't seem like active track is available during waypoints either.
Yeah, as far as I know the POI can only be a fixed location. And like you mentioned, I don't know of a way to use active track with waypoints. That's interesting though, I wonder if there's a way to do what you're trying to do 🤔
Awesome tutorial, thanks for sharing this very helpful info. I’m going first my first drone. After many following drones I think now is the time!
I was thinking to get dji mini 4 pro but after few reaches I think I will go for air 3.. any advice will be appreciated. Thanks again🔥👏🤩
I think the Air 3 has advantages, with the dual cameras, it's bigger, faster and will likely handle wind better than the mini 4 pro. But depending on where you are flying, the mini 4 may be a lot less restricted due to it's weight. Either way I'm sure you'll be thrilled with all of the cool things they can do 😀
Great thanks, so I will have a look restriction before going to get the one a want. Many thanks again I do appreciate your kindness😎🙏 god bless you
You're very welcome!
Hi thank you so much for your videos. Very helpful. I am a complete beginner just working out the combination of way points. In your video it mentioned continue if signal lost. I don’t seem to have this in my settings just land, RTH or hover.
Is there another setting I need to change?
Thanks again 👍
I have been asked that question a few times, and it turns out that option is not available in all countries. I'm in Canada and I've been told it's available in the US but not in Europe.
@@CreateandKaptivate thank you so much for your immediate response. Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. 👍
Super video!
It helped me getting started!
I don't seem to have the setting "continiue" on signal lost like you use with the Building?
Do I have to turn that on somewhere else first?
I have the Mini 4 pro with the RC2 controller.
First off Thanks! now about the "continue" I'm in Canada, but I have been told that this option is not available in all countries. A few people have asked that same question in the comments.
I see! I may have to ask dji support then?
Im in Europe. Here it is the law to have the drone within eyesight. Maybe it has something to do with that?
That's basically the rule here, but with micro drones the rules are a bit less strict.
Excellent video thank you, I also have mini 4 pro with the latest software on it, but could not find option "continue" under signal lost, just RTH, Hover and Land under waypoints settings. Am I missed something or is that option somewhere hidden
and must be activated?
This is comment I get quite often, and unfortunately the answer to your question is, the "continue" option is not available in all countries. If you look through the comments you will see some people have mentioned specific countries where this is and isn't available.
When you set the point of interest, do you need to point the gimble at the subject because I’m struggling lol. Amazing video by the way, great content and skills 😃 Thank you. Sam 🇬🇧😊
You're welcome Sam! You should be able to set the POI by tapping on the screen. But it doesn't matter where the gimbal is pointed when setting the POI, you can go into the POI settings by tapping on it and there you can set the height you want the POI to be at and then tap on Link Waypoints to set the individual waypoints that you want to use the POI.
@@CreateandKaptivate Appreciate it 👊🏻 All the best 😎🥳
Great tutorial . I will try at a bridge near my town. I have a question: the altitude of the POI. Is it the altitude the drone will take when passing the PIO or the height of the bridge (PIO).
The altitude you set for the POI is for the camera or gimbal, that's the point it will try to keep in the center of the frame, the height of the drone will be determined by the altitude of the actual waypoints. For instance if one waypoint is at 30m and the next is at 50m the drone will start at 30m and gradually increase in altitude to reach 50m by the second waypoint.
...great tips...a little quick for me as a beginner though. I'm local, so any chance you do beginner classes etc? Thx.
I'd hadn't really thought about that, I'd like to be of assistance where I can, but with winter coming the opportunities to get out are quite limited.
All your hand and arm movements make it appear as if you're leading an orchestration of your own voice presentation.
Haha yes I am aware of that. I'm a very animated person when I talk so I will have to keep this in mind in future videos. Thanks for the feedback.
I am going to have to try that zoom function
You can use any subject too, I tried it using a statue as my subject, and that also turned out really good.
@CreateandKaptivate I got that figured out but now when I do POI and tell the gimbal to point downward it does not do so during mission.
Sorry I must have missed your comment, but if it's not already too late, the one thing I could suggest is going into the POI settings to make sure you've set the altitude for your POI because that where the gimbal will focus.
Quick question: is adjusting the altitude what allows the camera to automatically tilt up and down during the waypoint mission?? I’m curious how the drone knows how far to tilt the camera up/down…is that only controlled by altitude, or can it be modified? Thanks so much for this video!
Yes that's correct when using a point of interest. Where the POI is set, is the location on the horizontal plane, and the altitude sets the location on the vertical axis and it's that point that the camera will keep in the center of the frame. If you're not using a POI then the gimbal tilt, and rotation of the drone can be manually set at each waypoint.
Hi did you check in non flat surface so you can see if it maintaines the alltitude difference from ground that you set? It is essential in set courses..
I really don't thin k it does, because I believe that altitude is relative to the take-off or home point.
why you did not used POI on the 3rd example. Is it possible to choose the building, and the add POI and select both waypoints to follow POI like in the first example? This video is grate the best one have seen
I think I may have tried using the POI, I really can't remember now, but you would think it would work. Anyway, thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it.👍
@@CreateandKaptivate honestly I will experiment with it I ll let you know,
Nice tutorial. I see you are flying in Calgary. I'm from outside of Edmonton. I was led to believe that Calgary is quite drone-unfriendly yet you are flying over the built-up area. Have the city rules changed?
The new Parks and Pathway Bylaw states that you can fly a drone under 250grams without a permit in permitted areas as long as you comply will all provincial and federal legislation. Be courteous when flying a drone. The Parks and Pathway Bylaw prohibits any behaviour which “unreasonably disturbs the use or enjoyment of the park by any other user of the park”. And they list specific areas you can't fly and I don't fly there. I also use several maps to ensure there are no restrictions where I'm flying.
Wow, that's great. Would be nice if Edmonton did the same. PS working on the waypoints, thanks for your informative video.@@CreateandKaptivate
I do appreciate that the rules seems to be quite lenient here, at least for sub 250g drones.
Dear author thank you so much for this very useful content!, Would be very appreciated if you answer to me why I don't see feature "continue" in my menu "when signal lost" -, only "hover" , RTH and Land ? thank
You're the second person to ask me that, unfortunately I don't know the answer. I assume it's something in the firmware, but it actually mentions it right in the Mini 4 Pro Manual, in the Waypoint Flight section under Plan a Waypoint Flight it shows "On Signal Lost - The behavior of the aircraft when the remote controller signal is lost during flight. It can be set to RTH, Hover, Land or Continue."
It looks like continue isn't available in all countries
I guess that explains it, thanks for clarifying that.
I have the same in the Netherlands, it might be a EU restriction, like the height limit of 120m
@@gertdeheul2726 definitely so, I found in the instructions that for EU countries the “continue” option is not available
