- In this video I show before and after pictures of a DK Customs 2" tank lift on a Harley Davidson FXDB Dyna Street Bob followed by step by step instructions on how to install this on your own bike.
Another DIY video from Granite City Riders. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
This is a really old school modification. First time I saw it was ‘68 on a Sportster. Those were really easy to do and almost free. Two pieces of steel. Two longer bolts!! Thanks for the video!
I have done this on my 2012 Dyna as well as my 2002 Road Glide. In addition to the mentioned benefits there is also the matter of being able to clean the front of the back cylinder and the front of the back cylinder. If these areas are not kept clean they will get dirty, the dirt will attract moisture and that moisture will cause corrosion of the chrome. I have two valve covers I can show you that did just that. Also, if you ever need to pull the top end you do not need to move the tank. I have replaced the rocker support gasket on the Road Glide and never had to move the tank. I also had the entire top end off my Wide Glide.
Nice work with the 2" gas tank lift kit! The simpler the mod the better. Having a better viewing angle on the speedo/dash and more air above the front jug was certainly worth the effort too.
Thanks Foo!

Great video. The quality of the video and verbal details are perfect. Keep up the good work.
I love these videos. Your a good instructor. Also, i love that you rock DK.
I appreciate the attention to detail and quality of video. Thanks Chainsaw, keep em coming.
Thanks Sheriff. Appreciate the feedback.
Very clear very direct with good information. I wish more people did videos like this
Wow! Such a simple mod, and it looks great + all the other benefits others have mentioned. Getting it done on my 2012 Switchback! Many thanks - nice, clear vid.
A 1.5" - 2" inch DK Customs tank lift makes for a great looking Dyna or Sporty, great job!
Great video! Just subbed. They say that you lower your engine temp by 10F to 20F, so that's another great reason to do this.
Stumbled across your page don't have a Harley yet but am really enjoying your videos keep it up 👍
Thanks man... save those pennies. Get that Harley. Hopefully we'll see you out on the road soon.
Just did a 1.6" tank lift on my 06 FXDB. Made the parts myself out of a strip of aluminum. Bolts from hardware store. Cost about $20 cuz I bought chrome acorn nuts. Works perfectly. Motor runs cooler now and I can see my speedo better. Plus it gave me better clearance on my plug wires after the coil relocation. Didn't have to lengthen anything at all.
Love all your vids man cheers from Australia
Thanks brotha. Cheers!
The 2 inch lift actually made my fuel guage more accurate.
2003 Superglide
Great video. Nice bike.
Thx Form showing the before and after Pics *Thumbs Up*
Love the videos with the Dyna’s!! Have a Low Rider S and will never sell it!!
Great bike! I wouldn’t sell it either.
Awesome scooter very informative video thanks
Yeah ! Sounds good ! I’m gonna buy a old dyna off of a buddy ..
And fix it up ... man I really like the large brake rotor video ...
Was kinda dreading converting the bike to a dual disc ... but now I don’t have to ..,
ignition switch relocation 07 street bob would be great
great vids u make it look so easy. keep up the good work. I'm subing.
Thanks James! I hope to have several more videos released by the end of the month. I hope they are helpful to you.
Great video
Just ran across your channel. New subscriber here. I have (or will shortly have) an Iron. But anything Harley I love to watch. I like mist bikes, but Harley is my fav. I was thinking about a 1 1/2" tank lift and wire tuck on my Sportster but I was wondering how much gas access I would loose. And having only a 3.3 gallon tank on the Iron is a small concern for me. I plan to make over night trips with it, like you on your Bob. BTW, I really love those bags on your 5 mods video. Doing a great job. Keep'em coming. Ride safe.
Hey Jeff. Thanks for watching. The lift didn't impact the amount of gas I can carry much if at all. It did impact the gas gauge which can be slightly annoying... but man, it looks great.
Do a flush mount gas gauge install 🤘🤘🤘 nice videos man!
Thanks... I will add that to the list.
where did you find that derby cover?
Really wasn't into the tank lift....but this one makes practical sense. I'll be doing this mod to my '11... make it easier to polish the rocker boxes.
Well demonstrated even I can do it and I am not really mechanically minded
Great video! Thinkin about a 2” tank lift on my 2017 Fat Bob, what are the cons if any ?
Where do you get your video covers? The ones with the girls on them might be a good addition to the garage
Did it change your fuel gauge reading?
I made a butt load of these lifts and gave them out to anyone that wanted one, I'm a welder/fitter by trade and can make them very quickly, in my MC guys love these lifts and they do look great, only problem is it screws up the gas gauge reading
Does it? So should I not get it then?
Good info.
Hey man ! Great videos ! First class stuff all the way !
Did you install your risers and bars ?
Thanks man. I have a video on installing the risers. I am working on videos for installing throttle cables, brake line and clutch cables.
I saw on some reviews on this that you can’t lock the bars after this lift because tank hits triple tree. Do you have this problem? Like the way it looks but dont want to hit the tank.
Nice video
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this vedio ....
Cheers man!
Any issues with gas Guage reading incorrectly, or not being able to fill tank fully? Thanks!
Just fabed my own kit in under an hour and cost me $3. Definitely like the looks better
i did a 2inch lift on my xl1200v 72 it ment i had to stop for gas every 40 miles i changed it back
06 dyna here..2 inch lift too... Recal fuel gauge...all good
Good Video, looks great. How does this affect the fuel guage reading? Does it affect mileage/fuel pick up in the tank? Cheers
I was thinking this same thing, but really can't find a confirmed answer
the answers are all here.
www.dkcustomproducts.com/acl/what-is-a-tank-lift-and-why-do-i-need-one.htm
Good video...can you make a video how to relocate front turn signals on late models dynas...thanks
Thanks for watching Jr. I will add that to the list, although my next few videos are related to replacing brake, throttle and clutch lines. This seems to be a hot topic because everyone wants some new handle bars.
is the street bob your favorite ride man? if so what year
Does this effect fuel guage/reading and what seat is that
Does it make it harder to get the last of the fuel out of the tank?
So do you get better mpg ?
I tried doing this for some reason i didn’t have enough slack in the wires not sure what to do now
Could you do a video on replacing rocker covers upper and lowers. Would like to change out my ugly factory fake chrome rockers for gloss black uppers and chrome lowers. I have a 2015 softail slim. Thanks man!
This is on my list... I hate the dull lower rocker covers on my bike. The new CVO has orange lowers. looks awesome. But honestly, not sure when I'm going to get to this.. I am back logged with installs I have already done. Let me know if you dive in and how it goes.
Where can I get only extension vent hose ?
Can you send a link to that seat?
Hey man I'm thinkin bout doin it to my fxdb. Does it affect the fuel capacity or is it minimal?
I dont think so
Like the videos bud. Any chance you'd want to do a quick release sissy bar video?
Hey Norty, I will definitely add that to the list. Give me a week and I'll get something uploaded.
Granite City Riders Awesome. Thanks man. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and I'm having a bitch of a time. I swear that they forgot to include two bolts in the hardware kit
did you move your ignition switch I'm to your dash or did it come that way I want to move mine I have an old 7 Street Bob and if you moved yours I have some questions for you or maybe you could make a video on it
Hey Joseph... that's the stock location on a '14. I didn't relocate it. Thanks for watching the video.
Is your tank still lifted?
Harley tanks all sit to low in front.
I ride a late model dyna and sit back further in the seat, I see my speedometer just fine.
I would put acorn nuts on the tank bolts
I had a sporty and i sold it months ago
I dont even know why im watching this haha.
Cool story, bud.
So you sold the girls bike, now you're doing what? Man up..
cool
Did it screw up your gas gauge?
Hi Boise G, Yes the tank lift does impact your fuel gauge. The fuel light comes on ~35 miles too early. You can adjust the gauge by bending the float in the tank, but I just use my trip meter to gauge. Here is a thread on this topic on the Harley Forum:www.hdforums.com/forum/touring-models/712994-fuel-gauge-float-adjustment.html
no.. it holds the same since the fuel fill hole is at the top of the tank. No measurable difference.
BoiseG .
Is there a rear-only tank lift? I think it would look better without the angle.
great video do you have any problems with the flue Gage thank you
Hey Louis.. this definitely affected the fuel gauge. I estimate it shows empty about 30 miles too soon. I know you can adjust the float to make the gauge more accurate after the lift.. but I have not done this. I've just been tracking my mileage.
Louis Cypher .
U never showed different shots of how it looked at the end. :( great installation vid THO...
Totally bait and switched us with the lift tank top model versus bearded guy lifting his tank. Dayum
What year is your bike?
It’s a 2014 FXDB
Granite City Riders Thanks. Have you found a way to minimize vibrations especially in the foot pegs. In the two demos I have had of late model Street Bobs I got a lot of vibration in the foot pegs at different rpms? I like riding it and the way it looks.
That's the Dyna's rubber mounted engine. It's only when the bike is sitting at idle... I love it personally, but I know people that hate it as well. As soon as you get moving all that shaking stops.
Granite City Riders Yeah the Street Bob is a cool bike.
made a 2inch engine runs cooler .easer to clean head gives a chopper look. downfault fuel gauge reads 1/2 tank when full.
Yeah, my fuel gauge was impacted... mine shows empty around 30 miles too soon. Not too bad... but I would like to adjust the floater in the tank to compensate for this.
Raise the tail with longer shocks, better ground clearance and fuel Guage correction all in one.
But why?
say my name
The question still remains.....why do a tank lift? Looks?
I had hoped it would lead to girls in bikinis chasing me down the street, but alas, it only improved the lines of my Dyna. So yeah, looks.
Obviously it's taste... but, in my opinion it really does look better.
Granite City Riders ...might be a dumb question but does it affect gas mileage?
No, it doesn't affect mileage or the gas capacity.
Granite City Riders Give the bikini clad girls another chance. They may be too busy looking at your big rotor!
But you don't actually answer "why would someone do a tank lift on a Dyna."
also, you gotta get some better royalty free music, man! There's tons out there!
Swapsrox it’s subjective you make your own mind up 🙈
bullsh t
Why on earth would you want to bring the center of gravity up on ANY bike?! Make zero sense.
Tank lifts look dumb.
