Yamaha 30 HP on Jon boat. Lake test.

- 87 Yamaha 30 HP, short shaft, 13 pitch aluminum propeller. Boat was 1448 Lowe flat bottom Jon with 3 batteries placed on front. Without batteries it was unrideable. Not the best match for this light weight boat. Propeller was brand new but cheap $60 one, with extra thick blades. With any 13 P SS prop speed would be about 2-4 MPH higher.

Scooting along pretty good ! I just got my first boat. 1973 Rich line GF16. It's rated for a 35hp. It came with a 76 Johnson 25 electric start. I have to go through it and replace what needs ! The compression is good so worth bringing back to life. I hope to pull 20+ mph out of it. Will be my first ever build.

I had the 1988 SG30 short shaft with ss prop on a 14-48 Starcraft modified V and that thing would outrun the 60 HP mercury powered boats in my area!
Had the 88 year model 30 HP and it was the best small outboard I ever owned!!!

Man I want one of those 1448s, but when I find them they're too expensive. That yam is beutiful, if I had it i wouln't be able to let it go. I have a question, I saw that 1436 tracker toopers retail for about 700 bucks, and one of my friends is looking into buying one. Do you have any experience with these boats, and how is the quality?
Well, had a few of them. They are light weight and you don't need big motor to go fast with them. Good 15 HP Johnson will push them 25-27 MPH. I think quality is not bad apas I never seen missed rivet holes in them as I see them all the time on Alumacraft boats.

That’s a factory transom rating if you build and re-engineer your transom like I did I run a 9.5 hp evinrude short shaft
I got one better than that... 12 aluminum sears vhull with a beefed up transom (.5 “x1” aluminum flat bar across the back and new plywood for the thickness on transom and I had a 75 evinrude 25 that pushed the boat 23 mph wide open. Honestly probably could have handled a 30 but you had to have someone in the front to level the weight but it was fast and a little scary
