    In this video I go over all of the questions I have been getting, and my thoughts on the F25 about how it's stood up to what I've been putting it through over the past year and seven months since purchasing the motor. Hopefully this will help anyone who is looking for an outboard in this class, or those specifically looking at the F25 to power their vessel.

    I bought a portable home generator years ago and I wish now that I would have paid extra for electric start. At the time the savings seemed important. It's gone the other way as well, where I bought extras on things that I learned later were not necessary. Great video.

    Excellent! I just had mine out for the first time, I wasn’t concerned with the weep hole strength but I also noticed she shook a lot and the handle vibrates at idol but like you say any throttle at all and it’s gone, nice and smooth. Glad it’s normal. It ran flawlessly and it’s got some torque, the swivel tension feature came in handy. I’m happy.

    The reason it vibrates is because it doesn’t have a counter weight to balance the pistons. Other small 2 cylinder motors have them to balance them. This is how Yamaha lowered the weight on the new lightweight 25 hp. I got that straight form Yamaha when I bought mine.

    I have the same motor (20” shaft with electric start). Replaced an old 2 stroke Merc on a 15 ft Mirrocraft Stryker. After two seasons here in Wisconsin, I have no regrets. Starts in any weather, quiet, and sips gas. The vibration at idle does shake everything in the boat but it’s a small price to pay for the bullet proof reliability. My boat is heavy but it will still push 22mph with 2 people and gear. I paid $3,800 in 2019.

    • @FloBass
      @FloBass  Před 2 lety +3

      What makes a 2 stroke more simple in your opinion? IMO a 2 stroke is more complicated than the F25 because it’s carbureted, and you have to mix your fuel and/or fill up your oil injection. F25 is gas and go. As far as maintenance, you still gotta change the oil, plugs, wires, impeller, fuel filter, just like any other outboard. Just wanting to understand your side.

    • @c.shoefish
      @c.shoefish Před 2 lety

      @@FloBass Ive been running 2 stroke carbureted engines for decades, they just speak to me I guess🤣 no EFI, less wiring, no valves to adjust, mine is pull start so no charging or starting system to worry about...in the end maintenance costs are probably about the same...I love both, they each have their purposes...both run excellent, but I enjoy the 2 stroke more in certain situations, and the 4 stroke in others...

    Does not having power trim help reduce damage to motor if you do hit a log? I would think power trim would lock the motor down while in forward? I am asking because I am getting ready to purchase this motor in the next day or two. I can choose between the bare bones or the one with electric start and tilt assist. I will be using the boat in really sketchy water with lots of logs (and gators). Price is not a concern. Damage to the prop and shaft certainly are.

    I have an idea about the "weak stream" from the telltale i have and older '71 merc 110 9.8 hp it doesn't have a thermostat and even at idle the stream is very forceful because there is no thermostat to slow down the flow of water. In my new 2020 Merc there is a thermostat and at idle the stream is much weaker untill the engine gets nice and hot then theres a lot more water shooting out the telltale and the water is warm instead of cold. Im no mechanic but i belive the thermostat opens at a specific temp allowing more water to flow into the engine to cool it down. Whereas older engines without T-stat has full water flow all the time

    I've got almost the same setup with a yamaha 25hp and the CMC 30 and the 25 mounting bracket is actually the same size as the CMC mounting plate, leaving no good spot to bolt them together. Did you figure out a way to bolt the motor to the CMC?

    • @FloBass
      @FloBass  Před 2 lety

      No, I haven't bolted the motor to the CMC. I just clamp it. I haven't had any issues so far. I put some skateboard grip tape on the clamp side of the CMC to give the motor some traction so it doesn't slide around. The only way I can see getting bolts to work is to drill and tap the CMC.

    Great video and great engine!
    Just a few questions, do you what's the top speed with your configuration? And also, would you recommend it over a two-stroke engine, and why?
    By the way, you said that the power stroke happens every two strokes (180° phase between the two cilinders): that's usually what happens in 2-cylinder engines, but in the F25 case I read on the Yamaha website that the two cylinders fire simultaneously so the engine actually acts like a 1-cylinder one! (This might also be why it vibrates consistently when idling, obviously they chose to let it smoother when cruising)

    • @FloBass
      @FloBass  Před 2 lety +2

      Many reasons why I would go with a 4 stroke over a 2 stroke. Easier to maintain, no mixing oil with fuel, cleaner running, more fuel efficient, quiet. The boat runs about 30mph when its just me in it with perfect conditions. When I have another person it averages 26-28mph depending on where they sit, and the wind.

    • @FloBass
      @FloBass  Před 2 lety +1

      It was a tracker 1436. I wouldn’t drop down in horsepower. The loss in power to push the boat with 3 people in it is not worth it. A boat with a smaller engine struggling to get on plane uses more fuel than a boat with a bigger motor operating on plane.

      I mounted mine on the high side. I'm right at 3" and would go lower next time. Cavitation plate should be level with the bottom of the hull. @@FloBass Im seriously debating picking up one of these motors. Im afraid it wont hold a candle to the performance of my old 2000 25hp Johnson. I was seeing 32mph with that motor

    • @FloBass
      @FloBass  Před 2 lety

      Depends on the boat, load, prop, motor height, and trim. I was able to do 33mph banging the rev limiter when this was on my tracker 1436 with just me in it and a couple rods and the lures I was fishing for the day. No jack plate, no power trim. So even with bad motor position, just changing a prop to one with more pitch would have netted more top speed. A buddy of mine has a 2001 two stroke 25hp merc on his gheenoe and we go the same speed. He doesn't have a jack plate though and the motor sits pretty low, so he could go faster if he jacked it up higher.

  • @omieyouknowme
    @omieyouknowme Před 2 lety +1

    Your choice on cmc tilt is better than OEM, it is serviceable and cheaper. Prop, the stainless won't flex on 25hp motors, and are heavier to spin but for the same pitch they are thinner more durable, so it's a wash. Yammie props are best, don't waste $ on aftermarket, I tried them. The tiller handle vibration can be fixed, tighten the gland but behind the sleeve one turn to tighten handle then remove tiller handle add a washer inside on the spring when you remove the handle.

      I'm going to have to call you out on that one. Sure, I'll eat my words if you can produce a receipt and shipping label, but you are spewing a bunch of bull. Overtons doesn't even sell Yamaha outboards. They never have. They only sell Zukes and Hondas which with their portable outboards, don't require you to go through an authorized dealer. Some places do sell Yamahas online, but only ship to Yama dealers.
