I love the high production value of this channel while also still feeling like something from early youtube. Immaculate vibes
Yea yea yea
Right on. Yea. I agree.
Hello sardine man. I would like to dedicate this comment to the sardine community and the people who enjoy these delicious delicacies.
Personally I would love to see more exotic cans featured on this channel very intriguing n entertaining!
@bruce mattingly right they’re like all exotic lol
What am I even doing here, this guys a hipster
Mr Fancy Pants with the Bowl and the Rice.
When that Zojirushi alarm went off, I thought it was mine.
Garick and Quark were the all time best ever characters in all of star wars.
I eat these quite often. Love em
I get these all the time, super easy feed. Over rice with some brocolli on the side? Wonderful
Don't quote me but the same company does canned roasted squids too
also eagle coin does a fried dace and blackbean that's also lovely
This channel gave me the courage to try sardines for the first time. Went down to the supermarket and bought myself a can. They were delicious and my cat loves them too!
Dunno what brand you tried. But King Oscar sardines are some of the best tasting in the market.
@@DaRealPhillyJawn Those were the ones I had. Btw, any tips to get them to not stink up the house? They're delicious but the entire lower floor of the house smelled like fish for hours!
@@A.Person.Who.Existsnever had the problem with them stinking up the joint. Usually I rinse the can out with dish soap and hot water after consuming them. Prevents the oder from lingering. 😁
Put the can in a plastic baggie immediately after transferring the deenz to a plate. Tightly close baggy and disposs.
Matt has the best videos.Everybody else is trailing..🤔
Just a very small point: those are not fermented "black beans", as they are soya beans that turn dark during the fermentation process. Black beans are a different thing altogether.
I have just have joined to the sardine life and King Oscars are a freaking treat. I had no clue how good a tinned fish could be. What an absolute gem of a food.
Woah, I just had this for lunch (over rice, with an egg)
I warmed it up with some water and poached an egg in the broth before pouring it over the rice and mixing it up, have had it a few times before (my local Asian grocer sometimes also carries braised eel with “brown sauce” and “spicy brown sauce”). The texture softens a fair bit when you warm it up, but you still get some nice crunch.
Thumbs up for the Zojirushi song. Well done.
I’m a huge eel fan. Had some canned smoked eel from Italy once and I think about it a few times per year ever since.
You should try Fried Dace with Fermented Black Beans over hot rice!
Your canned seafood reviews are excellent man. Keep up the good work. 🙂
I'm going to do ALL that and add some thinly sliced green onions !
Thanks MAtt
As a Taiwanese, I appreciate the way you mixed the whole can with rice! That's the right way to eel!
Looks good!!!
TAIWAN #1
#茄汁鯖魚
When you put the lipstick and eyelashes on the eel I was hooked!!! I must have watched it 50 times! Keep it up brother!!! ❤
Yeah please make a video of that stuff that you added because I've never heard of it and I'd probably like to try it
Add some good sunflower oil to that spice jar and get all that crummy goodness from the bottom.
Thank you sardine man, i have become obsessed with canned fish and you made me feel better
Never seen canned eel before!
I love the flavor of fermented black beans. Haven't watched this yet, but I hope you enjoy it.
I love making steamed fish with ginger and fermented black beans. So light and delicious.
Bonito Power!
That ingredient sounds very energetic.
That can is delicious. I remember having them as an extra dish at meals and there was never leftover 😁
This looks good.
yeah, I just had that about a month ago. Warmed it up in a water bath, and served it with some basic rice. Came out yummy.
Getting Eel at the sushi place is one of my favorite little treats, great "fish" lol
I can eat pickled herring now,I'm happy.No eel,sushi,etc.I'm good,uh Matt.😎
@@deloreswilson1798 pickled herring is wonderful, but it gives me gout.
This is great - this is the one I was looking to buy.
Wow, you finally picked the bowl up! That’s the only way to go.🍚
Great video Matt! I'm hoping the next video is special for #100 ! I can't believe it!
I've had these black bean eels quite a few times (was inspired by your Japanese sardines in soy sauce ep.) You described the texture perfectly. I really like the sauce on rice as well.
For an over head center view shot. Put a X, better yet a photo of a eyeball on your desk.
These are literally my favorite, i've never seen anyone else talk about them
With this product and also the bigger cans of dace with black beans I think breaking them up small and making fried rice with them is the way to go. On top of plain steamed rice is almost as good.
ya, this is the way. start by sauteeing chopped onion and garlic in the oil from the can, add 3-way mixed veg, add leftover rice, and then finish the fried rice with the roughly chopped dace/eel.
The ingredients make me think that it's gonna be similar to canned fried dace, which is great! I'm gonna keep an eye out for this.
I've started adding canned eel to my ramen, man is it good
Hi Matt. Thank you for another great video. I'm on the fence about the eel. :)
I have been looking for these ever since atomic shrimp had them on weird stuff in a can, and he loved them. Wouldnt you know literally a day after this video i go to a chinese grocery store ive never been to before(they only ever have frozen roasted eel at my grocery store) and boom! it was there in all its glory! i got 2 packs of spicy sauce one, and 2 packs of the old fisherman chili(they only had fermented soybean and not fermented soybean and chili, and im not the biggest fan of that flavor profile when its the star)
I had the teriyaki one, never had this one. Very tasty!
MY 4TH FAVORITE CANNED FISH CZcamsR
I've had this in my IVAR for like a year and some change, staring at me.... MENACINGLY
i would love to see you try the old fisherman roasted squid one day! it was the first asian tinned fish i had before trying the eel ones and it was really good! i'm trying to make my local asian store put it back in stock because they used to have the roast squid but now they only have the eels.
I've had the Japanese version of this and I love it. On top of rice is definitely the way to go.
That looks delicious ❤
Yess!!!! I love these! They have them in teriyaki flavor too!
the eel with black bean is excellent when mixed with rice and i like to top with a sunny side egg, i also liked the black pepper sauce version, the chilli version had signficantly tougher bones and that one was my least favorite
Cow…….ah……..bunga! My new favourite exclamation. So so sick of hearing people say Oh….my….gawd! For every little thing . This saying should go viral!
Love this brand. This can specifically is delicious
Man, id get these more if conger eel was more sustainable
I had some blue mackerel in tomato sauce from this brand today and it was alright. Nothing special, but not bad!
Maybe I'm just extra, but I always remove the spines from my canned eel lol. I can't stand how chunky the spine is, and its usually really easy if the eels are layed in a neat row.
"We're just gonna go. . . .nuts. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah" 🥳
Would be interesting to see how you make your sticky rice.
oh yum....I love dou chi....I bet that's awesome.
Some diced green onions would have been nice.
Been binging your videos once again and got me to pick up some of the jalapeno King Oscars, plus a can of Pampa giant calamari in garlic sauce, if you can get your hands on some you'd probably love 'em.
I just picked up a tin of this at a local Asian market.
You got that MSG umami, what we even doing here 😮
Eel is so good roasted; I have not tried canned eel this will have to make it to my list….
Digging the Bob Ross muzak at 6:08!
You're supposed to heat it up in a skillet and reduce the sauce down until it's sticky then pour over rice and serve, delicious!
Even though the texture sounds whack I'm all on board for canned eel
"Fuctose"
What the fuctose!
I've been wondering about these, I always see them in my local Asian markets
your my appetizer,
These are good toasted up in the broiler.
Aye bruh ep 100 better be crazy😈
Great video as always! And by the way - I love your music. It adds an interesting feel to the whole experience. Any chance you might give us a glimpse into your music production some day?
Hey man are/were you in the Marines? A lot of things stand out in this video that made me ask. Love your content man you’re hilarious
Yeah. Mmmhmmm
“Conger” that’s really fun to say, “Conger Conger”.
It's gotta have something to do with the word "bong" being so close right??
@@CannedFishFiles OMG it’s that obvious. I better delete my account just to be safe.

Get a Korean spoon to go w yr chopsticks
I had one called Conger eel and I am worried it makes me have an allergic reaction. Oh wait... It might be the same one but a different packaging... Old Fisherman... actually there was no black beans... That looks like a traditional clay pot dish... wait wait... is there bones? There was ALL BONES in the cans I bought. I am considering trying them again but I might be allergic to something in it. It's just crunchy with bones. Dang... I need to buy this one.
Anise AND licorice powder? That's a bit of a witch's brew! I think they are over-egging the pudding there as those are pretty much the same flavour. The black beans were a surprise too as they are one of my top three condiments, but pretty strong on the palette and have to be used lightly so as not to overshadow the food they are added to. I dunno, Mateo - this might have to be purchased for an exploration.
Thanks for trying the eel!! Another fish conquered?
Ur fucking hilarious 😂 idk if it's a skid or it's just u but I love it
The only way that bowl of rice and Taiwanese tinned eel could have been better was if you washed it all down with a Tsingtao beer! Still pert' dang outstanding video flick presentation. Mahalo Matthew!
do fried dace
*_"This is a dang meal!"_*
Put an omelet over the rise and then eel on top 😍😍
Part of that Eel looked like a Zeno morph.
I probably would have chucked that sinewy stuff if I noticed it. He tucked it in with the meat and ate it with no reservations 😂
Has anyone tried the Tong Weng roasted eel? Just had some come in the mail today from Amazon 😬
Was it a good eal meal?
it was that good?
do you record the scores for all your videos yourself?
try out canned Brathering
Stuff looks good where you get it for $3.50 a can I hope a store not mail order
I've had these, first I tried it straight out the can...hmmm....tthen added rice,...eh....then heated it... still not a fan.
The texture is odd and almost Jerky like, and I think I recall the beans almost being bitter? I think I might confuse this with Saury with beans which I've had as well . Either way, nothing like unagi!!!
I like this. A little heavy on sweet soy sauce.
I've never had eel and liked it, but I've only tried it as sushi. It's always felt fatty and gelatinous to the point of being highly unpleasant. I'm glad Matt had a different experience here.
Horoscope girls be like: sorry I murdered you I'm a capsicum ♋ and you're a caprisun ♈ 🤷♂️
ohh cool i have that one in an oval case and i just ate tamago kake gohan w/ kabayaki saury 😈😈
Breakfast of champs!

Is this can from RTG?
Just dump the whole can into your rice cooker before making your rice, add a smidge more water, break up the eel a bit - that's the way to go.
