Maybe you have plumbed the depths of your local canned fish selection. Maybe all they have at the store are scary no-name sardines. Maybe you live in a sardine desert. Or a real desert. Where do you get those wonderful fish? Online! Yes, from the same place where youtube comes from! Today we'll go on a virtual shopping trip at Rainbow Tomatoes Garden, and pick out some fun, fun cans. It's not quite the Metaverse. It's more like a Fish-a-verse. Which is really very similar, but has more omega-3s. Believe me, cyber is gonna be huge!!
Cheap tins, fancy tins, we want it all.
You never know how good!!! 🔥
I just discovered sardines as a cheap low carb source of protein and this channel is exactly my kind of weird
same
is there a high carb source of proteins? i guess beans
@@SoftBreadSoftware sandwiches
Gotta be careful with the oil though. Just dabbing with a paper towel will cut like 50% of the calories but if you eat em straight out of the can you might be getting a lot of calories from fat
For $6.67/oz. for salmon, I better be gobsmacked by something other than the realization that I paid *$7* for a morsel of salmon.
Hey guys, if you happen to follow me out to rainbowtomatoesgarden.com and pick up some tins, make sure you let Dan know I sent you! Between him and me, we're always trying to gauge the relative sizes and interaction of the various spheres of the Conservas-verse. Good fishing!
Agreed!
DEFINITELY!
Canned "Dace" fish from Asian markets? Wat say you? 👶🍼👶🍼👶🍼👶🍼
Wen do you cook up some tiny Smelts? Then "jar them" in olive oil and eat 10 months from now.
Absolutely 💯 %
I don't know why this is a thing and I wouldn't expect the amount of community interaction, but yet here I am looking up videos of canned fish. I like it and I'm glad this channel exists.
I cannot believe how many different brands of sardines I’ve eaten in the last month since I started watching THIS channel, Slow Jabroni and Time To Eat The Bait.
It’s unreal man. Wow.
😂mee too your a year in ! You have a favorite one yet ? I’ve only down 4 can but I just bought more today ! (I started last week )
@@lendaryreviews ‘Ramirez’ sardines in tomato sauce 🥫….AND…. ‘Millionaires’ sardines in olive oil!
DEFINITELY my favorite.
On the hunt for ‘Nuri’.
Keep reviewing the fancy stuff! I def enjoy your opinion on the cheap stuff and it’s more relatable, but there’s mad brands that you’ve introduced me to since I started watching that I easily would’ve never come across otherwise
Thanks.
@@CannedFishFiles Agreed, would love maybe a binge episode on the fancy stuff kinda like the most common sardines videos to condense some good takes!
@@shiftymcgee4183 Not a bad idea.
the 'good' stuff is ALWAYs wanted...
I tried the Spanish anxoves de l'escala they also have some sardines and tuna but specialize in anchovies
they are made for tapas and have anchovies with skin in salt, definitely something else if it has no oil
"They say 'HOT' - do they mean it?" is a real struggle when buying spicy food. If it says hot, I want that heat. Keep up the ★★★★★ deen content, Matt!
Binging your channel at 3am got me into sardines, thank you for opening my tastebuds.
Love your channel, you inspired me to start eating sardines. Your music in your videos is also really nice.
P.S. very sorry to hear about Paco, may he rest in peace
Thank you Andrew.
This is my new evening activity. Just watching this guy eat fish from a can.
Just placed an awesome order of dines and muscles. I let Dan know I found his site by watching your videos Matt. Here was my order:
Sardinha Sardines in Olive Oil with Red Bell Pepper
Ferrigno La Bonne Mer Sardines in Butter with Persillade (Garlic and Parsley)
Ferrigno La Bonne Mer Sardines à la Tapenade (Black Olives, Anchovies, Capers)
Ferrigno La Bonne Mer Mussels with Organic Olive Oil, Garlic and Parsley
Espinaler Clams in Brine 15/20
Espinaler Baby Sardines in Spicy Olive Oil 10/12
Ramón Peña Mussels in Escabeche (Small) 16/20, Silver Line
Never had any of these. Can't wait to try em out!
I haven't tried Ferrigno La Bonne yet, so you gotta tell me if they're worth it. I appreciate you letting Dan know the Fish Filez crew is active!
I was not aware there was another being like I; I eat sardines, I live sardines, my skin permeates sardine oil. You have a new follower, sardine soulmate
Thanks for watching Boosted!
Beautiful! I've just now rejoined the fold after decades and sardines are so gooooooooood.
Thank you for being the standard of canned seafood reviews. You've definitely persuaded me to move beyond the basic mackerel and tuna, and I'm loving it!
Matt, you have some real foodies watching your channel. YES, we want the FANCY stuff! 🙂 Please and thank you.
I agree…. I like to splurge every once in awhile on a fancy can of sardines as a treat but if I haven’t seen Matt do it & review it, I’m not forking out the $. I rely on Matt to go 1st.
Wholeheartedly show us the FANCY stuff!
I need to expand to the internet for sardines, I've tried everything in the grocery stores.
Due to diet restrictions being implemented in my life recently, the need for foods that will not further my condition sardines became an option. I found you and this channel, and you've helped me start my journey. The Ramon Penas were marvelous. I also have ordered through the (Tomatoes) and (Fish) sites.
As someone that is just getting back into the sardine realm, I'm interested in the whole range from budget deens to daily drivers to the tablecloth worthy treats.
Cod liver with garlic salt, basil on mashed potatoes with gravy, squeeze some lemon, Worcester sauce eat along with potato wedges and broccoli/cauliflower 🔥
I want to say that I would especially want to see expensive tin reviews so I can live vicariously through you.
What a good idea for a video all of Matt's personal grabs and some possible sneak peaks of future videos love it!
You inspired me to try to find good sardines. Before watching your video, I assumed a sardine was a sardine was a sardine. Affiliate links might be an idea. You are opening minds!
This is awesome. I tried my first can fish out of a Dare. I've learned to grow an appreciation for these after watching videos on some of the can's preparations and reviews. It's a great way to try some exotic, neat delicacies from the comfort of your home
To the King of Deenz: I, for one, would very much like to see the fancy, uncommon deenz. This is of course just one lowly opinion
Ok, that's a vote!
Same! I’d be interested in seeing fancy expensive ones purely BECAUSE it’s not something I’m familiar with or likely to come across or buy personally
I discovered Dan through your site. What a super nice guy and he has a great selection. I placed two orders with him in the last two days and am getting a third order queued up and ready to go. Thanks so much for putting me onto such a superb source for tinned goodies.
This was just fantastic! We are so blessed to have such a variety of yummy goods just a mouse click away. & I can’t wait for the deboxing! 🍻
Great video, as always (and thanks!). The Wildfish Octopus in Bullwhip wasn't a collab between me and anyone, it was a Limited Edition collab between Wildfish and Barnacle Foods (the folks who make the Bullwhip). I sold out of that. Not sure if it's going to be like the McRib and keep re-appearing or not, at this point. Wildfish has been doing a lot of limited edition things, though.
Wouldn't that be awesome, though? Lol
Yeah that's right. Well next time I'll have to get some Bullwhip sauce... and maybe a McRib in the meantime...
I need help on store bought. That's where everybody goes most times. 🤔
Keep the uploads going homie I discovered your channel and I've been watching almost every video. I hope you and your loved ones are doing well keep up the good work(:
finally. ive found my corner of the internet
Just getting into your content and i really like reviews of the fancy stuff and every price on the spectrum. its very fun to have your options and occasions for any different time.
Yes! We like the fancy deen reviews!
Future topic - best budget $1 tin. We can’t always eat King Oscars.
Your videos are almost as addicting as tinned fishies!
I am so excited for the unboxing video!! Thanks for the vid!
Nice video! Also like to add that RTG is a great place to shop. They have a vast selection and customer service is second to none. Looks like our selection process is very similar.
Yay! I’m so excited! Thank you for taking us shopping with you, I’m excited to “open” the box. It’ll be like Christmas & we get to see new reviews! I’m looking forward to the upcoming videos! (IMO Moroccan sardines are good but what’s holding them back from being really good or something I’d look forward to getting) is the amount of scales. It’s hard to get past those scales. Anyway…. YAY! New sardine reviews! Thank you!
Gonna do my best to get a good sampling of Moroccan brands and do a deep dive.
I just started having cod liver twice per week. I spread 1/2 of a can on toast, and top it with sauerkraut. Pretty tasty!
Anthony Bourdaine did a No Reservations episode on the complexities of canned seafood somewhere in Europe. Its worth checking out. And Anthony did not kill himself.
Cod liver! Love opening a tin, and searing those lobes in a hot pan. Then I'll put 'em on a dressed bed of greens. Arugula is great. But anything with a strong assertive flavor will do nicely.
This is exactly what I was looking for! I will be ordering from here and will happily mention you to them! ❤
I dunno how I got here but i'm here for it.
That website has a terrific selection.
Specialty stores are the best
I'll use the web but what about the stores?Which ones have the best?🤔
I'll go to a specialty store..I know quite a few...🤔
You gotta try Sardines from Santa Catalina Island. California sardine made with sunshine and happiness.
Can’t believe I’m watching a grown man online shopping canned fish. Great Channel!
Set that ego aside every once in a while. It’s meditative.
I just had my first can of Porthos today and I agree with your past review. They have a ton of scales and the flavor was just ok. If these were $2 cans it could be understandable but for $7 or so I'd rather have a Nuri.
So happy a new video came out today!
Would love to see you shop on Dan’s site again since so much has been added!
love that you doubled down on the og proununciation on espinaler the neuropathway shall not fade!
Dang, I love this CZcams channel!
Great videos. I appreciate, as I eat canned fish for lunch few times per week. Thank you
Cod liver is amazing! I eat then straight from the can, but making a sort of patê with grated onion, capers etc is awesome as well.
I love this channel. Reason, this may sound a bit weird and nerdy but, this guy is in essence trying and experimenting with all sorts of canned seafood. Which in short saves me so much time and money trying out different canned foods. In a sense, I am offloading much cognitive compute to this CZcams channel and simply just receiving the curated results with some room for personal adaptation.
I know I like some tinned stuff, and you just made me feel like getting some today. Maybe I'll try new stuff too. Hell yeah.
I like my tank to be focused on buffing the team's defences.
9:45 - "This is the kind of stuff though if I bought it I'd have to share it with my wife"
The 'deens maestro just casually mentioning he has a wife. absolute legend
late to this, but we love seeing the fancy tins so we can live vicariously through you!
I like the fancy stuff. I will watch anything you put out.
Just subscribed! My wife eats sardines now after showing her your channel! Thanks brotha!!
I've finally done it, I can retire!
Sardines on toast with a good strong cup of tea!!!
We love you from Vancouver Island. You are a legend. Keep it going.
I really want to visit Vancouver one day!! It's a great pinball town.
@@CannedFishFiles haha. I'm not familiar with that saying, but it's positive yet mysterious tone adds to the allure
Cheap seafood is just that. You only live once, spend a little more and eat good food. I buy all my fish from RTG. Great service, seletion, fast shipping with good shipping rates. Dan is a real gentleman and a pleasure to deal with
You need to open up your own brick and mortar canned fish shop with online shopping available as well. Hold sampling events and maybe even a "deenz" lunch counter.
"Deans's Deenz"
Thanks for turning me on to RTG bro. I am going to dive into the dines.
I love your video’s, my little brother even made a parody video of you. Keep doing what your doing, it’s excellent!
lol I'm truly flattered by the idea of someone doing a parody!
Can we see it?
Good Lookin Out!
Definitely came for the deenz and stayed for the trek references
I enjoy the fancy expensive vids since I know I'll never order that stuff
I love browsing the RTG site, but it's too expensive for me. I'm stuck with whatever I can get through Kroger and Walmart (and rarely, Amazon).
One day I will make it to a Wal-Mart, I have some idea what I can find (plenty of good stuff), but I want to do a big video on it.
What are we doing here? Can’t help but to watch. Why do I now crave sardines and want to eat them with chopsticks.
Brilliant!
Literally had my first can of sardines today, chicken of the sea in olive oil. I devoured it. It was so good. But I'm interested in more luxury sardines for fun
imo the diamonds of the sardine world are brislings (non-smoked) in olive oil. such a simple thing but they’re amazing. harder to find non-smoked though
I can't get over the fact you're wearing a BotW shirt. I love RLM!
Someday, I will order a bottle of Espinaler 🤞(hasn't happened yet)
BOTW is the #1 youtube show in our house!
RugenFisch is my favourite. Their herring fillets in tomato sauce are really good. $4 a can nowadays in Canada. I grew up on it. The last one I had wasn't as good as usual, but I think it's because it was eaten right after being in the trunk for a two-hour drive on a winter night, so it was colder and firmer than usual. I've really been enjoying the Mega brand sardines in tomato sauce lately. I have a can of Mackarel in tomato sauce that I need to try soon.
WHAT-ARE-WE-EVEN-DOING-HERE
May I suggest a cat co-host to really take this channel to the next level
Wow! $200+ for Fancy Canned Fish, You’re definitely addicted to the Tins.
I go to Central Market but it's downtown and only make it there once every other month or so.
I've been a canned smoked oyster enjoyer exclusively my whole life. I think it's time to broaden the horizons. I've just never thought to try anything else
Thanks for the website tip.
Serious offerings… I love it yeah yeah yeah.
Cod liver > rinse well and remember taste and texture is like butter so spice it up!
Love the show
OMG the markups on that site! But where else can you find such variety? As a side note I also noticed a lot of moroccan sardines that all seemingly are canned by the same people. the same hefty can. I noticed Brunswick started marketing Maroc sardines and I also have a can of Sea Castle. They look identical. I find Moroccan less fishy that the Canadian sardines typically canned by Brunswick. Maybe Brunswick is trying to branch out for that reason because I really keep away from their Sardines because of the fishiness.
I just made me some sardines in tomato sauce like 20 minutes ago and man they were so damn good
This guy is mesmerizing
Should be interesting box there
I’ve been meaning to order from Dan. Thanks for the walk thru. I hope you review the Rugen Fische in Horseradish. I’ve got a can in the pantry. Been saving it. Enjoy your haul!
I'll try not to sleep on that tin then Bradley!
@@CannedFishFiles I’ll be looking forward to it! Oh, I ordered a King Oscar Assortment from Rainbow Tomatoes after your video today. My first order!
@@bradleyr34 Hell yeah!
Uh Oh, how are you going to get around rerun eating and reviews?😗
I'll listen to your reruns..😆
Titus are Moroccan! The spicy I haven’t tried yet but are basically red pepper in oil, it looks good! I like the plain ones too, but I’m wanting to try the spicy ones! And they’re not too expensive!!!
I have some Titus kicking around, thanks for reminding me!
I enjoy the fancy and cheap can reviews, but the expensive ones help me get a better idea of what I really want to try (without forking over $15-30). Placed my first order at rtg, but would also love to hear if you have any particular recs here in NYC. I haven't seen much in the Bronx, but plan to look closer at Arthur avenue next time I'm there.
Well, I'm one of those Covid Conservas Converts, so doing a lot of in-person shopping for interesting fish is not in my history! Turns out I'll probably work from home forever, so it's very slow venturing out again (don't find myself in Manhattan with time to kill very often). If you find something, let me know. And I do want to visit some of the taverns that serve conservas.
I’m stuck now, I’ll never not eat canned fish again!
Obviously you gotta support places like rtg on principle, but if folks are buying in bulk and trying to save money, know that world market has Nuri's for 5 bucks a can.
That’s where I get my Nuri’s, can’t beat that $. Also, I discovered that at the fancy grocery store they have Pinhais for $7 a can. Nuri is a subsidiary of Pinhais (owned by them) so I wanted to try them both together. I had a can of each in spiced tomato sauce. Nuri $5, Pinhais $7. Both from the same exact cannery, same exact city, same exact ingredients in the same exact order, same exact can (only different wrappers), both wrapped exactly the same with the little piece of tape, opened the can…. Both had same exact fish, same exact flavor, same exact slice of carrot, cucumber & pepper, same exact sauce….. EVERYTHING was the EXACT SAME. The only difference was the $. If you go to CZcams you can watch a video of their canneries…. Same exact canneries.
Been looking for sprats. Janssons Frestelse demands them.
do fancy tins, so we don't have to buy them ourselves. SUFFER FOR YOUR VIEWERS lol
The problem is its what they catch that day always different. In Northern nb. Canada they are like pogies big .every fish we run 2 steak machines cuts 3 steaks and a 4 off each fish. A 4 is number will go in a can
Gonna be honest, the tescos finest cornish sardines for around a pound sixty are plenty good enough for me. I wish this was something I could be more into, but its something I cant often afford. Im not going to pay £6 for a tin of mussels, when I can pay £2 and get almost a kilo of mussels from a local fishmongers.
I pretty much only eat great value sardines, they’re pilchards, 1.07$ a can, I can’t really justify spending over double on the same thing for a brand name even if it has a different oil, I like beach cliff too, they’re sprats vs the cheaper pilchards, a cheap healthy snack
Riga Sprats for the win!
Must be the Norwegian in me!...
4:50 oh man, the habanero smoked oysters... Got to try those. Speaking all my language and they have to be better tasting and better for you than the two buck Chinese ones that are only 85% mercury.
Cod liver... The smoked one in its own oil, I love it! Straight as is or mash it up with some thyme and a few dabs of hot sauce, mix that stuff in to a sallad, sourkraut, kimchi or any other cold crunchy weggies...
Cracking one as I write this "LA casa del bacalao, foi de bacalao islandes ahumado" taste just as good as the giana I usually eat, but it's a bit more expensive. Anyway good shit! I got the munchies and it's 5 in the morning, sleep tight/good morning
