Tall tin cans sardines in tomato sauce actually the most common form in here southeast asia, and people here don't eat sardines straight from the can without being cooked or at least heated first, and must be eaten with rice 😆.
here my favorite simple recipe for sardines in tomato sauce :
-1 small (150gr) tin can sardines in tomato.
-1 clove of garlic or 2 if you prefer more garlicky, chops.
    -1/2 onion, slices.
    - slices hot chili peppers if you like spicy.
    -1 chicken egg.
    - fish sauce and pepper or can substitute just with salt and pepper.
    - 3-4 table spoons cooking oil.
    steps :
stir fry garlic, onion and chili peppers with cooking oil until it's fragrance,
add egg and scrambled, then sardines, also add some water measure by 1/4 part of sardines tin can, adjust taste with fish sauce or salt and pepper, simmer for at least 1-2 minutes.
It doesn't have to be eaten with rice, you can use spaghetti pasta, mash potatoes or bread too.
    sorry for my bad english.

Well upon reflection I realized while watching your videos that my actual middle name is spelled, Dean. I never use it even informal situations but it's no wonder that I gravitated to eat sardines and now thinking high thoughts of myself I only eat sprats of the smoked variety. I eat them by candlelight while relaxing in my jacuzzi with some patchouli incense burning and listening to recordings of the soundtrack from the 1967 Spider-Man cartoons, the most way out jazz you'll find from coast to coast. Ever thought about eating a Sprat on a buttered toasted bagel sprinkled with raw sunflower seeds while sipping Kefir?

That small can form factor is how smaller sardines are sold in Southeast Asia, where they're a cheap source of protein and are added to omelettes and soups. Larger pacific sardines are sold in flat oval cans or just larger upright cans (like those for tomato soup). The most common base for them is tomato sauce.

Here they put sardines in special packaging and let them sit for a year, two, three, up to ten, then sell them as vintage sardine. Have you ever have those? I find them delicious. They even make collector packaging for these, with colored artistic or regional engravement on the metal of the box. And the year is written on the box too.

The tomatos sauce is acidic and actually breals down the sardines.

How do you keep the cats away with all the dines?

Hello, the algorithm brought me here. Great video. I just wanted to add a definition for Tinapa. It means smoked fish in Tagalog.

I grew up with sardines in mustard sauce. It might be a Philadelphia thing. I have 5 cans in my basement. It's getting harder and harder to get. Thanks for the vids.

We had two tins in the pantry for as long as I remembered...at least 1972...they sat and moved around the cabinet for another 5-7 years. Finally, about 11 years old, I decided to take a chance...
      I'm back for more, now...

Wish I could love dines like you do. I eat them 3+ times a week because of the incredible way my health has improved, but I am NOT fond of the taste. I keep trying new ways to eat them. I'm hoping to acquire the taste faster. 😂😂

Perhaps finding a homemade marinade you like or recipe to cook them will help you like them more. They can be cooked many ways, used in salad dressings, dips, etc.
My quick and favorite way to marinade them is: 1) whey or lemon juice, dijon mustard, chopped onions. 2) whey or lemon juice, tomato sauce (homemade), onions, shriracha sauce, fresh serano pepper, red pepper flakes (blended)

Eating them on a sandwich with avocado/guacamole and salt changed my life. So good that way. I didn’t expect it when I first tried it, but a Portuguese cook insisted.
