2015-2017 F150: Throttle Body Replacement

- Going down a bumpy-gravel road, I suddenly lost all throttle response in my 2016 Ford F150 with a 3.5 Ecoboost. I also got messages displaying "See Manual", "Service AdvanceTrac", and "Hill Start Assist Not Available". After coasting to a stop, I plugged in my code reader to find a P2112, Throttle Actuator Control System - Stuck Closed.
Modern drive-by-wire electronic throttle control systems will often exhibit an unresponsive throttle or rough idle condition if a fault is detected in the throttle control circuit. Trouble codes P2107, P2108, P2111, P2112, P2118 and P2119 are all throttle circuit related codes.

Great video, no music, straight to the point. Nice job.
yeah under 3 minutes, this is how you do it.
You rocked this! Saved me a $300 tow. I love it, a hammer is still the best tool. Drove 30 miles home last night, picked up a new throttle body at 8am, finished at 9! Dealer wanted $900. You made it ridiculously easy. Ford Transit 2016 HD with eco-boost.
Had the same thing happen yesterday. Read the code and a couple bangs later I was back on the road. Saw you're video this morning and I'll be replacing it this morning when the new one gets delivered. Great video and straight to the point. Thanks!
Thanks - this is the exact symptom and behavior I have on my truck. Thanks for the clear and concise diagnosis and detailed mechanical fix.
Thank you very much for this video, I didn’t even know where to look for a throttle body! When I took it off it was coated in carbon, used some carburetor cleaner on it and all is good.
Thank you! You saved my ass! I was in another state when the truck went limp. Luckily I was in a residential street around the corner from a family member house.
Saw your video and was back on the road home in a few hours!
Just got the P2112 code. Thanks for the video.
I had the same problem and your video REALLY helped me! Totally saved the day, thanks for posting it!
Thank you, time to do mine now and i know what i need. great video, brief, to the point, very informative.
Short and sweet and informative thank you very much
Exact same thing happened to me yesterday. Picking up the part today.
short and sweet ... replaced mine in 15-20 minutes ... thanks!
Thank you! Exactly what I needed!
Great! This is very informative. Thank you.
15 f150 w/ 3.5 had same issue. Wrench on dash, airbag, traction controll, hill assist all came on. Pedal to floor and nothing. Would restart truck and get a few more miles down the road and it wold do it again. This here fixed all those issues.
Great video... gotta do mine tomorrow.
Thanks for posting. This was my 5th throttle body (2013 F150, 3.5 EB, 403k miles, 2nd engine). First one I replaced myself. The hardest part was getting the wiring connection off without breaking the tab!!
I still can't get the wiring connection off even though I can pull back on the red tab, it just doesn't come off. Any clues?
@@lostinmyspace4910 Sorry, can't give you any clues. After squeezing and yanking for about 5 minutes, it was off. Not exactly sure how I got it.
@@timothywall1263 Hey Timothy...I only spent a minute trying for the removal. Maybe I'll go out there right now and work another 4 minutes so the next time I'll know how. I am taking it to a dealership to get it scanned. got the dreaded wrench even after cleaning the throttle body, and Mass Airflow sensor.
@@lostinmyspace4910 did you push in like he does after pulling the red back? I didn't see that until later. You must have figured this out because its a year later but maybe this will help someone else.
@@cassidymcintire7149 Probably did,but can't recall.
That doesn't look as hard as I thought it would be guess I'll pick one up and do it today thanks for the video
Thanks big homie for the vid
Thx great video did it my self thx for the information
Thank you so much it's help me alot
Many Thanks !
Mine just did this at 80k the code didn’t make sense for the symptoms. I tapped the throttle body actuator with a hammer and removed/ replaced the connector several times. Truck ran fine till I got home. Super simple fix.
yea mine failed too. seem like a common thing on the 2016. But mine is obvious from overheating coming from the turbo. An update to my problem. It seems that air came too hot to the throttle from turbo and the ring seal melted and oil leaked in. So new seal is all I needed.
Gracias!
How did you get that electrical plug off... I pulled back the red tab but the plug wouldn't slip off.
Oil leaks into the motor assembly on the throttle control valve and causes this. I popped the black cover off the side of the TCV and found plenty of oil in mine when I experienced this same problem.
@@Joshjoshnbvjthrottle control valve?
Thanks for sharing
My f150 just started showing a wrench Icon
Haven’t give any problems but I’m afraid to drive faraway they couldn’t check the codes
This issue is so frustrating - simple fix on an expensive part- has anyone found a permanent resolution?
@@gordongoodrich replacement with updated part. My new TB ends in B
I have the exact issue, i did everything you did (minus the clear code step) the problem still on goin although i replaced the throttle body with a new one thats why im here watching videos to see what did i miss, thank to you i know now that i probably should clear the code to get things back running normal.. great detailed video, keep it up
Can you give us an update after you clear the code?
How do you clear the codes?
How do you get a referbished throttle body? Nobody is turning them in (taking them back) for a core charge. Where does the company get all those throttle bodies that they referbish and sell to you?
maybe you can help me , I have a 2013 f150 3.7 , for the past 2 weeks randomly would get a service advance trac light and it would run rough I would pull over cycle key and it would go away , yesterday I was driving and it was fine , I shut truck off and when I restarted it I got the same advance trac light , I lost all throttle response and running very rough to the point of shaking and stalling , if you press throttle nothing happens
his issue is so frustrating - simple fix on an expensive part- has anyone found a permanent resolution?
Could bad wiring do this to? I’m having the code come up, but I have a few other codes that come up with it, p0223, p2135
I'm getting the dreaded 'limp mode' issue on my 2016 F150 with 133K on it, and as far as I know, it's the stock throttle body. I don't have a code reader, but I've now had this limp mode 4 times in a week, and each time the dash gives me a different message, so it's as if the PCM is even unsure of what the issue is! Nonetheless, after spending nearly $500. at the dealer, and this is still going on (they did a refresh of the PCM programming) I'm thinking perhaps I should chase these possibilities myself, since they're charging $175. per hour. I've been monkeying on engines since I was a kid, and now in my sixth decade, but wondering what the percentage is on this being the issue? Are there other 'sensor' possibilities as well? So far, the messages have been "Traction Control" problem, 'Hill Assist not operational' and 'Service Advance Track'...
@masterjacks - great video, straight to the point, comprehensive. Can you help me figure out where to buy the replacement part for my 2016 3.5 ecoboost?
Almost any parts store has the throttle body. You can save money buying from one of the chain stores.
@@larrynorman5437 Thanks Larry, appreciate the advice.
Can this code stop your car from turning on? My car wont turn on and I have P2111 throttle actuator stuck open. Please hel0
I too have been getting that code 5 times today. It's when ever I try to accelerate hard. I then have to pull over and shut off the engine and give it a a few seconds to reset. Then it's like nothing ever happened.
I went to the dealership to buy a new throttle body and changed the throttle body. It was like a 15 minute swap. And it fixed my issue.
Damn same happen to me every time I hit a bump on the road it would turn on !! Thanks !! Some reason I thought it was a wheel speed sensor
So for future reference. No reason to replace the whole throttlebody. I took mine apart where the gear set is and used electronic cleaner to remove all the oil that was inside and it has been great ever since this is the new Fix.
Was it say alit of stuff about traction control and stuff when it was messing up ?
Yes, the traction control system will be deactivated/throw codes if the throttle body motor isn't working as it should.
Just got a call from my wife “my car won’t go it says manual”. Jump in the Chevy to go pick her up... Thanks for posting this video code scan shows p2112 I know what part to throw at it now.
I had p-2111 and p-2112 I replaced throttle body and that fixed p-2112 but P-2111 is still showing on tester. What do I look for to fix that?😅
When it's running, is the check engine light still on? Sometimes when you clear codes after repair, a "permanent" code will remain stored, but the check engine light will extinguish. These permanent codes can't be erased but will eventually self-erase after so many successful self-tests or cycles.
Same thing happened to me but with my 2016 expedition. But I wasn't on a dirt road I was on the freeway in Phoenix AZ and losing all power with semis behind you isn't Fun. Is there any recall for this problem?
That's crazy. I was feeling lucky to be rural when it happened. I haven't heard of any recall for it. Toyota had a throttle body recall issue, but it was for uncommand acceleration. I doubt we'd see a recall for sudden loss of power because it's the safety default. Seems like it's a fairly common problem though.
I've since learned Ford has a TSB out replacing the throttle body free of charge.
@@MasterJacks is there a link you can send me? Maybe I can try and get a refund from ford since I paid out of my own pocket. Thanks
@@TheDrinkhere It's TSB 16-0139, but I spoke too soon. Reading deeper it states that warranty coverages are not altered by this TSB. 🤷♂️
Did you have to have to throttle body sensor programmed?
No programming on the throttle body.
I had so much trouble getting the rubber hose/boot loose. How did you loosen the intercooler intake so much? It was hard just to separate that from the throttle body to get the rubber boot out. What am I doing wrong?
did u get it lol
this is incident number three- has anyone found a more permanent fix?
Yeah, it's called saddling up!
I can’t for the life of me get the connector off the throttle body 😭 you make it look so easy after pulling the red tab to just pull the connector out but mine wants to act like it’s freaking welded together lol
Oh no, that's the worst. Best of luck!🤞
It's not the throttle body that goes bad. It's that electronic chip in the black plastic on the throttle body. Very common issue. They need to have a recall on them. But even a new factory throttle body only lasts so long
Great video! Where did you purchase your aftermarket throttle body?
Thanks for watching. I believe I bought from rockauto.com
Solo asi ? Sin desconectar el nevativo de la Batería ni nada🤔pregunto!
Disconnecting the battery is always a good idea, but the risk of causing damage is low on this one. The key would need to be on, then you'd have to jump power and ground at the connector to get any sparks or spikes.
Why doesn't Ford do a recall on this known problem!
Excellent video. So many CZcams channels add in so much filler crap…. Like my channel, here’s a promotion use this code for 10% off, I’m gonna play a dozen ads for you to watch, look at my dog running around the backyard. 10 minutes later….. alright guys we got a lot of work to do so this is gonna be a long video
Why does it look like you have so much damn space to move your hands. I got nothing!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
