    Just changed out the throttle body using your video. It was spot on and it worked perfect. Great video! We used a ni-cad wrench similar to yours with a long wobble socket extension, that is the only way to do it with those hard to reach hose clamps. It allows so much more precision in reinstalling the hose clamps. Thanks so much, it saved over $150 in labor charges. Bought a new Ford replacement TB instead of an aftermarket unit. Take care!

This time I didn't have a big trip imminent, so I just cleaned the throttle body with throttle body cleaner really good. Going on 2 years now with no problems. Folks might want to try cleaning it before replacing.

    So glad you posted this. I was worried about chasing the ABS codes first, and your video had the exact same codes as mine. Even though the TSB said ignore the throttle body code if U3013 was present, it was still the throttle body sending bad CAN messages.

    I had this happen in my '15 3.5 liter last spring 2 weeks after buying the truck used from a stealership. On a 2 lane highway, towing a tandem axle trailer...not a lot fun, very dangerous as a matter of fact. Had to have another dealership install a new throttle body as I was 800 miles from home & tools but what a shock when it happens & limp mode kicks in! Needless to say I wasn't impressed Ford knows of this issue & has done nothing to design a better throttle body for these motors. It's a cash grab in my opinion but no other maker is any different anyway so we owner's just get to deal with it. I now own a spare as well & never leave home without a good assortment of tools, lesson learned! Great video!!

    Happened to me on my 2015 Transit 250 ecoboost with about 140k. Out of nowhere the vehicle just went into limp mode. Thank god I was pulling into a gas station and as I went to accelerate it went into limp mode and wouldn't move. Turned the vehicle off and on. Moved about 100 ft and then it did it again. Could have been a real bad situation if I was in traffic. Sucks that Ford's recommendation for everything is to just replace it even when there is a known issue that should at least be on recall just like the flex coupling I've had to replace 5 times bc Ford has no permanent fix other than bring it in every 40k miles smh. Thanks for the vid! Huge help!

    Great video. I recommend reading the TSB. Installing and maintaining a catch can (which may or may not prevent this problem) is more difficult and more expensive than this repair.
    Also, when searching for a replacement throttle body, I came across two variants of the electrical connection on the throttle body-male and female-available at O’Reilly. Check the style that is on your vehicle before replacing.

    Hi.. Today I had my truck go into limp home mode with a AdvnaceTrac warning and another message saying Hill Start Assist is turned off. I shut down the engine and restarted, which reset it for only about a couple hundred yards then it would go back into limp home mode. This happened 4 times in a row over about 1 or two miles. The fault code was P2112.
    I watched Aaron's video, used the wife's car to go pick up a new throttle body (which included the gasket. Don't know why everyone's asking for a gasket part number here). Took me 45 minutes to replace it. I didn't need to recalibrate, but there's another video on CZcams where the fellow used his diagnostic tool to reset the KAM. He also showed that while the negative wire is disconnected from the negative terminal, you could jump a small wire from the ground wire (while it is disconnected) to the positive terminal for 10 seconds and that would reset the KAM.
    Anyhow, thanks for an easy to follow video Aaron. Much appreciated. $175 CDN taxes included well spent.

    So that oil contamination in the TB...I venture to guess that comes from excessive oil carryover from the EB being a forced induction engine? In theory, would a catch can help prevent the premature TB failure? Curious how the oil gets there in the TB in that qty.

    2015 F-150 3.5 ecoboost, problem happened many times in a week. I no longer trust the truck to function when acceleration is required.
    Same temp "fix", scurry to side of road, put truck in park or neutral, turn off truck, wait at least 5 seconds, turn on again. Final step is to hope it doesn't immediately happen again. I have found letting truck stay off for 5 or so minutes (about time required to Google the problem) let's it start up with better chance of not failing again.

    Could a catch can on the passenger side PCV prevent the oil buildup in the throttle body? I recently installed a can on my 2015 3.5 Ecoboost F150 and at 50% oil life the catch can was ~80% full of what looked like oil, smelled like oil/gas. The vehicle has 56k miles on it with no apparent engine issues.

    • @JasonW.
      @JasonW. Před 4 lety

      P0299 means you probably have a hole in the blow off valve, so it is leaking boost. New (edit) BOV might solve that.

    I have experienced the symptoms on my 2013 F150 with the Ecoboost engine; loss of power with a bright yellow wrench flashed up on my dash. Coasted to a stop, turned the engine off for a few seconds and then started it back up. No problems since then for the last few days. However I took the truck to my very trustworthy mechanic and he checked the codes. To our surprise there were NO CODES! However given my explanation of what happened he concluded that it probably was the throttle body too. I'm convinced I should just replace the ETB. I have no code reader...will I have problems without being able to reset the KAM? Guess I can try the jumper from the disconnected negative cable to the positive terminal. Also I can't find your link to ordering the ETB. My local Ford dealer has one for $173. I'm guessing that's about right. Please let me know if there is a better alternative. Thanks!!!

When I put it in part the idle was pretty rough but just like everyone says just turn it off and start it back up. There’s no specific pattern to when it stops throttle. I haul a trailer and it seems to do it quicker while hauling. Didn’t even bother going to the ford dealership just did my research and I replaced the throttle body about 2 hours ago. Drove around with/out y trailer, seemed just fine. I also cleaned my MAS. I’ll update in a week. (13’ F-150 xlt Ecoboost. 173,xxx and stills runs and tows like a champ.)

I’ve had my truck for over 2 years now and have always felt like the throttle control was slightly erratic, and it seems to have a dead feeling if I am at a stop and need to accelerate quickly, kind of like floor it, 2 seconds of crawling forward then the engine comes alive. It’s also at times better than others and then worse. I actually have headers and a custom tune on the truck with the throttle control parameters maxed out to full aggressive, and at times it seems slightly better, other times it’s like when I first got the truck. Since I bought the truck it’s been like this, so I have no way of knowing if this is just how the truck is, or if there is an issue. I will say this, my truck has 3.73 gears, I drove a truck with the 3.7 and 3.55s, and it accelerated better. Any input would be much appreciated!

      What you describe, lack/less power for a second at green light, sometimes very responsive immediately, sometimes not, that is turbo lag.

      Jason W I appreciate the response, but my truck is not turbocharged. I did however fix my issue, it turned out to be a failure in the knock sensor circuit. My truck was essentially in limp mode for the 2 years I’ve owned it. The code was not triggering a cel, nor was I able to read it with a generic code reader.

      @@treystoys that is a bad failure mode, sorry to hear something like that would happen with a modern ecm.

    I’ve had my 13 F150 throttle body replaced twice so far and am pretty sure it’s about to fail again. I’m around 150k miles and it seems to happen about every 2 years. Do you think that purchasing an after market one that’s a little beefier would be better?

      I just watched a TFL “height mileage” eco boost vs coyote v8 video and the eco boost guy said “these go through ETB’s like a fat kid eats cake” and is on his 7th swap out at 230k miles.

    on clearing the memory, could you just place the negative cable against the positive instead of buying a short jumper?

    couldnt make a left as loss power and 0 accel, had to turn suv off then on and was able to make left on next green arrow. Very dangerous, looks like the time has passed on the recall also on the throttle body. Need to bring it into ford to fix the steering bolt recall too smh junk

    WHY FORD will my Toyota throttle body units go 500,000 miles and yours maybe 40,000 ? Real fun going into limp mode on an LA Freeway out of the blue!

    Since it’s a TSB does that mean ford will cover the cost to replace it? Since you say to replace it with OEM, will it happen again or have they changed it? Thanks for the video

    • @AaronHinesAuto
      @AaronHinesAuto  Před 4 lety +1

      No. Ford will not cover it unless it is a recall. You can check with your local dealer to see if it is a recall for your truck. A tsb is a technicians service Bulletin. Just means that ford knows it’s a common issue and what’s for rd techs to know about it.

    My 2015 3.5l ecoboost was the biggest pile of junk I've ever owned and I've owned an 05 gto. If the truck wasn't in the shop broke it was in there for a recall. Never got to actually drive it. TB went out at 55k miles $480 at the dealership they paid since I had the truck less than a week. Same exact thing started happening at 106k. It will leave you stranded. $80 TB off Amazon and 20 minutes labor, traded it off the next day. Had warped exhaust manifolds, never got the quote to fix that common issue. Will NEVER own another Ford

    This is very ridiculous that this even happens. What a cheap freaking part Ford uses!
