Thanks for this video! My one thing is that my g35 coupe threw a code that read as some kind of fuel unit so I figured it was the sending unit so I’m wondering if I should still replace the sending units or try to fix gauge cluster

Help. Git the gauge cluster repair fir the gas level. Throwa in check engine light. Gauge is fixed. But after reset the kight comes back on. Found out its a short in the fuel pump.. which color wire would it mist likely be that wont let the check engine light go back off? Cant get the car inspected or clear codes due to this matter. Please help

Hi Danny, thanks a lot for the video. Like you, I have replaced both sending units for my 2005 G35 and gauge is still off, and recently it is getting crazy as it is jumping between off and normal... Do you have any recommendation for my case? Any recommended place to fix this in the bay area?

@@dannyjohnsonsgarage just curious when you had your cluster repaired what did they actually fix in the cluster? My needle is stuck at half tank I went and filled and it was 16.9 gallons. My cluster is also a tad dim on the Speedo side. I can send it out to get it fixed but does it sound like I should start there first?
Danny, is there a way to ascertain quickly if it's the cluster or a fuel sending unit issue based on the gas gauge behavior? My son's 2006 G35 won't read the fuel level accurately, but it does move and seem to be right sometimes. If it's a full tank, it will shoot right to the top, but when fuel is burned it will eventually not be right seem to get hover from 1/2 full to 1/4 full. If it's the cluster, will it be static and not work at all, be at full all the time, etc. or can if go vary in location? I pretty much had the fuel sending units ordered, and saw this. I'm going to try the self-test later today. Also, the odometer and tripmeter reading are very, very dim most of the time as well. Any input appreciated! Thanks for posting the videos.
I would try manually moving the float up and down to see if the gauge follows it. When I did nothing happened. You can try cleaning the path of the sending unit level sensor. It’s hard to say and even I replaced both sending units because I had a check engine light for the fuel level so I was convinced it was a sending unit. If the gauge cluster is also dim it sounds like you’ll want to send it out anyway
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage Thanks for the info. I've debated just trying a cleaning, but worried it'll revert back fairly quickly. We get that CEL too, and almost certain it's the same code you mentioned. We had just been doing the reset tripmeter method, but maybe it's time to just try and get it fixed.
@@dustinlandau3563If you haven’t tried it already, try the gauge cluster self diagnostic. Very easy to do. With the key off, hold the trip button. Turn the key to run and then press the button 3 times within five seconds. Your gauges will go to zero. Now press the button and your fuel should go to halfway. Did this last night after replacing my sending unit (didn’t help) and of course my gauge goes to right between half and a quarter tank indicating the resistors are bad. Hope this helps.
@@daviddeusinger5184 I did try that but I wasn't aware the fuel gauge would go to halfway. I think it probably did, as the other gauge needles behaved like they should and I was looking for them all moving at all for a which they did. But I'll definitely check again and see. What's next for you if resistors are bad? We still haven't tried cleaning them. It's either been cold, something else to do, etc. I'd planned on trying to clean the buildup on resistors and see how it goes.
@@dustinlandau3563 Definitely worth a check. Fuel, coolant temp should read exactly half. For me, gotta take out the cluster and “reflow” the solders on the resistors on the circuit board. Going to bring it to work so I can use our microscope and fix it 👍 apparently this is a very common issue on the G’s. You can find a vid on here of a step by step OR you can send it out to get fixed. But it’s like $200.

Just got 06 sedan and previous owner (now me) had same issue. It reads to full but doesn’t go below 3/4. Hope I can figure out which to attack. Gauge or float.

Need some help please- my 97 Cobra has no oil pressure and won't start. Would a bad oil pressure switch cause it not to start? Its got plenty of oil. Any help would be appreciated thanks
It shouldn’t keep the car from starting. The sensor is near the oil filter and you can try replacing it by unscrewing the old one and putting a new one on. People talk about driving and out of nowhere having the pressure read zero and scares them, but the oil pump is run by the timing chain, so unless the oil pump broke it shouldn’t be a problem for oil pressure. If it is still cranking vs you turn the key and it clunks and won’t turn from a pump exploding is the real danger
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage ok thanks alot. So what else do you think it could be other than the oil pump. It was turning over a few times and making a clunk. But now it's turning over but not starting and has no oil pressure.
@@T.J.Caldwell318 You’ll have to start removing things to diagnose it. It could be something to do with the timing chains (or the oil pump gears). I’d watch this video to get familiar with it. It’s slightly different as a DOHC, but the rest is the same czcams.com/video/rqsWUZjDtnY/video.html

@@dannyjohnsonsgarage well the problem was my battery wasn't charged enough. Not sure why that would have anything to do with oil pressure but this happened before a while back when the battery got low. I put the big 3 wire kit on it (watched your video to learn how) and now its charging great and cars running great. Thanks again for your help God bless

Do you know what fuse is for the gauge?
If the gauge cluster is working at all or lit up it won’t be a fuse. I’m not sure where the fuse is
Mine also has issue with the left indicator does that confirm its the cluster?
