I've got an i10 basically same car and they have the air filter above the engine and a plastic guard underneath the engine to stop excess water, very clever design built in India so you know they made to take on tough roads I've abused mine through potholes at 70mph and the tiny wheels can take a beating lol 😂

I was told many (50) years ago not to declutch in deep dirty water as there's a danger grit will get into the linings and then stay there.

If I rolled up to one of those water crossings and saw half a dozen people filming, I would just turn around. Clearly it's a horrible idea to go further. That's why they're filiming.
And if you see a row of number plates hanging from the fencing, that's definitely your clue to turn around.
The threat of your vehicle flooding, or being swept away, is why you're told to never drive through flooded roads.
It happened to some off roaders a few days ago , was in the news. They misjudged the depth of a ford on the Rover Esk and their Discovery was swept away. The 3 of them drowned.

3:19 perfect example on how to cross deep water. Your car should be fine if water didn't reach up to your hood. Drive slow and steady and avoid making splash.
That first car was carrying children. You don't know just how deep is the water, so why take the risk?

Happened yesterday outside a village near me, idiot was sat in the water 2 kids in the car with water filled footwells when I drove by.. Was adamant the AA would recover him (I'd driven a good 60m through the water to get to him and It was well past the hubs on my LR)
He straight up refused to get out to clip the end of the tow rope on I had hanging over the spare wheel to pull him to safety... (I wasn't planning on soaking my good boots for a moron)
To think some local authority splashed out on that "DO NOT CROSS WHEN IN FLOOD" sign. (2m 21s). Maybe we need a new graphic warning sign. But what? Just a roof above the water? A huge splash? A car under tow out of a river?
No one gonna mention the smart Mercedes driver at 2:42 testing brakes after leaving water? I see no one else read the highway code

Perhaps driving lessons need to include the fact fuel doesn’t combust when mixed with water… very few drivers here approached the situation properly.
I would be teaching that water cannot be compressed too.

All cars are not the same its all about the height and positioning of ur air box i always remove the front air pipe whats behind the front grill when i go thru floods its that front air pipe what allows straight access to the engine

People need to learn from the buses, none of them plough through. The issue is that many idiots won't wait their turn, so they will pass alongside and cause you to flood by having two waves hit each other.

It’s because of idiots like this that insurance premiums are so high! Cars and vans are not amphibian vehicles. Insurance companies will soon exclude cover for flood damage. Also people wouldn’t drive through floods if they knew it washes out the lubricant in the bearings of dual mass flywheels causing them to fail within a couple of months further down the road and the vehicle owners can kiss goodbye to average £1200 - £2000 depending on make model of vehicle.
