Shogo, until I found your channel by accident I have only ever had a fleeting interest in Japan. I always found it difficult to get someone's take on the culture that isn't either incredibly Japanese (and so struggles to explain indigenous concepts to westerners) or a foreign enthusiast (and so struggles to bring the experiences to the audience without being very clearly an outsider with an outsider's perspective). I really appreciate your work Shogo, the fact that you have a life filled with tradition, obviously living as a contemporary in Japan, as well as having lived in the West. It all combines to give you the perfect blend of cultural insight to deliver your content in a unique, informative and palatable way.
Thank you for your diligence and dedication to bridging the cultural gap for those of us who find the mysteries of your beautiful homeland intriguing and alluring. I wish you and your family a safe and happy new year, and I hope that you personally have even more success with your channel.

Regarding writing and sending a nengajyo. I think it's the same as writing a letter for someone. Doing such shows sincerety to the receiving party, it's more personalised not only because you took time to think and write the message but also your personal handwriting.

My late mother's style of ozoni was very simple and bland. Just mochi, mizuna greens and dried shrimp and konbu (kelp) to flavor the dashi. I still remember this: When I was in my 20s nearly 40 years ago, I had the audacity to pour shoyu in my ozoni. You should have seen the glare I got from my mother!
