And to think just 150-200 years ago we were riding around on horses! Now we're blowing our minds with 900 hp road rockets! Brilliantly insane.

oh and don't underestimate horses...they have the same fire in their belly and when they know you are a great rider and are not afraid and give them permission to race...and I mean they will ask you...are you sure you are in race mode? they will ask it again and when you say yes... they start jumping out of their skin and yes they will perform.
Horses have 14 horsepower.

Cars aren't a piece or carbon fiber with some wheels strapped onto it. It a living organism. It lives, it breathes and it has feelings. We just witnessed a man falling in love.... And so did we.
Hat's off to McLaren for reminding us of this.
Very few videos had made me went passionate like that one, it really made me have chills and heart bump faster, it really is a step above from LaFerrari

Sure, a car is a living organism ~when~ you have a million-plus dollars / euros / pounds to spare ... what most of us get to drive from point A to B is a different thing altogether, far more mundane, utilitarian, and devoid of romance or inspiration.

Everyone is getting the same reaction from this car and saying it is the greatest car ever. I think this is the only car that I could want more than a McLaren F1 which I think is the greatest car ever. They've raised the bar once again.
blitzwing1 I'll gladly take both though. The 918 for driving around Miami with the top off but the P1 one for around the track.
Scotty Rob...oh my...THE MIGHTY F1 McClaren,that is still my favorite car.dont get me wrong the p1 is a VERY SERIOUS MONSTER,its in a league of its own.but the f1 is a true drivers car.i imagine the average joe can get in the p1 and drive it,but its gonna take a skilled driver to handle the F1 being it has no "help me out here electronics".let me know if you feel the same way as i do about the two cars.

And this car STILL remains my "white whale".
It is a piece of exquisite art.
Just breathtaking from every angle.
And a symphonic sound that just captivates the senses, every single time.
And those flames ...
It is literally a fire breathing monster on any race track.
I have an MP4 ... and it's probably as close to owning a P1 as I'll ever get.
But that's OK.
I'll keep loving this miracle of the human spirit.

I've seen lots of in-car videos of various machines being put through their paces over the last few years but this baby takes the biscuit. From 5:10 onwards it's jaw dropping the torque smoking the tyres in every gear. Incredible. I am very proud of McLaren for making such a beautiful and cool looking motor. Come on, Lotto!

I bet you the reason this car warns you not to activate race mode on a public road is because in race mode the car lowers to just a few centimeters above the road and since the seats are so low to the ground to give the car a lower center of gravity, your ass is basically just a few centimeters above the road when in race mode. So if you had to hit a bump on a public road when in race mode, you would most probably be ejected straight out the sun roof LOL!!
The funny thing about this review is that when Chris Harris drove this car, a guy who has excellent driving skills, he wore a racing helmet and concentrated intensely, yet this guy who looks like your average office worker, is driving the car just as ferociously as Chris in a very relaxed manner lol.
The exhaust note of this car seems to be more pronounced than in the video with Chris Harris. Yet it still does not come close to the exhaust note of the Ferrari 458 or Ferrari F12. The only sports car manufacturers that make cars with decent refined sounding engines are Ferrari and Aston Martin.
This car shoots more flames out its exhaust than a Lamborghini Aventador. Awesome!

In 2019, this is still one of my favourite cars. Both in looks and capability.
Jeremy Clarkson, Chris Harris and now Richard Meaden have the same reaction driving the P1. Hmmmm this might be the best super car on the planet.
Clarkson hasnt driven the 918 and Hammond hasnt driven the P1

Often when you see fast cars filmed on a race track it doesn't look like they are going that fast. Filming them makes it undramatic. But the P1 is different. My jaw dropped when I watched Chris Harris' video.

Looking at him wrestle with the car, my assumptions have been confirmed. The handling of this car is more direct and blunt, which makes it a better pure drivers car.
Of the 4 current headline Hypercars, the P1 is the most difficult to drive.
The camera angles and edit is what makes this review great. The GoPro showing the WHOLE cabin and driver input puts you right there with him. and the flames...omg...this is my new ultimate car.

Before the P1 reviews poured into the internet, I thought there will be a good fight between P1 and 918. But now... I doubt it. Poor Porsche, they must wish they have done a more performance focused specs instead of the 3.3L/100km target.
As a Porsche fan, I totally agree. The 918 is a huge disappointment.
Funny,i was never really a big porsche fan. I loved the 917 and,the 924 or 928 or whatever it was. and the 959. LOVED THAT ONE !
HOWEVER,i love the 918. JUST LOVE IT.

The LaFerrari,i just dont get. Just seems to be curvy where it shouldnt be and,weight in the wrong place and,i hear not the best use of the electrical power,with not much EPOWER only range.
If i had my rathers,i would take a 918 OVER,the LaFerrari anyday.
I just see the laferrari as a collectible toy for billionaires. Whereas,it seems,the 918 and,p1 are really designed to utilise, BOTH FORMS OF POWER,to their fullest.. Maybe,i have it all backwards.But that is my perception at this moment.
You guys always doubt the these cars .. bugatti is a good example every one though it weight was a issue and now look it dam the fastest 269 mph .. and they working of a faster one point is . You be shocked to see that 918 just might do it

If the porsche 918 was supreme, I WOULD NOT BE SHOCKED AT ALL. ..
I think it is an astounding tech. marvel.
petrol engine, electric motors,batteries and,4 WHEEL DRIVE. All working seamlessly.
Even the brakes GENERATE POWER.
ITS almost inconceiv able.
My personal opinion,is i see the laferrari the front jumps in the air when given the beans.
Then the nose,DIVES ,when you jam the brakes and,IT LOOKS LIKE A 1975 BUICK 225 GOING AROUND CORNERS AT ANYTHING ABOVE 40MPH.
It looks like a cruiser,more than a track car.
The p1 and,the 918 have won this round,i do believe.

Different auto journalists have different approaches towards reviewing a car. Meaden was quite speechless after he had driven the P1, so was Steve sutcliff from Auto car. However, this car being the top rival for the benchmarking Porsche 918 spyder in the hybrid supercar niche, the numbers had to be explained. One thing all these journalists agree on is that this car wasn't anything they had ever driven in their life, and we are talking about good 60 years of motoring journalism. WOW !!

The P1 has completely awestruck all the people who have tested it so far and those people have driven just about every supercar or hypercar ever built. On the Fchat forum owners of LaFerrari are now reporting that Ferrari is sending them legal letters that they must NOT let their cars be tested ....Wonder why??
