  • SWITZERLAND during MAY for traveling: In this episode I tell you EVERYTHING IMPORTANT that you need to know when you travel during this month. May is a very interesting month, it’s not peak season yet. With choosing to travel during May, you have definitely made a great choice. May has several advantages over other months: It’s getting warmer, the days are long, you can do again a lot of activities. May is mid-spring, it’s the transition from Spring towards Summer. You will still be able to get a glimpse of the blossoms, depending on how cold March and April have been. The weather and the look of the landscape during May is very much determined by April. If April is cold, May is going to be rather like a usual April and Spring will be delayed into May. As May is still mid-Spring you may get a last chance to experience a glimpse of Winter up in the Swiss Alps. There will still be snow, in certain places, you even can go to ski. Down in the Swiss plateau, you will see the nice contrast of the green landscape and the snow mountains. Spring vibes down in the cities like Lucerne or Zürich and wintery Swiss Alps, all in one photo! As May is proceeding, it’s getting warmer and you may even experience early Summer vibes. In terms of tourism, May is already considered beginning of Summer season, which allows you to do a lot of things. Although many attractions are going to open up during May, not everything is going to be open as it’s still mid-Spring. In particular up in the Swiss Alps, many attractions may still be closed. Overall in May it’s getting warmer; on certain days, you can already walk around in shorts and slippers. Watch the full episode to know what you can do in May and what you need to expect your travels going to be like. This episode will be part of a series of how it is to travel in Switzerland during each month of the year.

I travelled to Switzerland in late May. Like with most places, the weather can be unpredictable. It was drizzling in Bern, mild and sunny in Zurich and hot in Lugano. Generally, I found May a great time to visit Switzerland. I could see snow up in the mountains from my train, heading to Ticino but didn't feel cold. I would advise taking a rain jacket and jeans or long pants but heavy Winter gear is not necessary. The biggest difference for me is when you pass under the mountains to Ticino. When you come out the other side, it is like a whole different climate. It was suddenly Summer.

I know it is the high season where lots of tourists as well as everything gonna be expensive but I want to witness the paradise fully in green. Yeah, I know that every season has its own beauty but personally I love summer season ( the lush green but still we are able to see some snow in the alps 🥰). So summer season would be the best choice.

Hi Abdul. The landscape all green is nice! But I would say, after a couple of visits, also consider October or April. You will love the colors a lot more in real than on video. Every season has it's unique things. December has plenty of Christmas markets and decorations all around the cities and villages, plus it's starting to be snowy. But: First, you should revisit Switzerland during the green season!

Mürren and Schilthorn too. Jungfrau is very expensive. Better go up to the Eggishorn, but please check if the cabin operates during that time. You get a better view for only 25% of the price of the Jungfraujoch. Maybe include Ticino too? Wengen is alright but I would leave it out if you don't go to Jungfraujoch.

Hi Sinekanchana. Thanks for your comment. Usually, the flowers bloom, before the landscape turns green. Blooming happens in April, early May. Flowers after blooming and green landscapes are on after Mid-May. You may however work around that by including Ticino at where the green landscape sets in earlier than in the north of Switzerland.

We will be staying in the Lauterbrunnen Valley for two nights and then want to take a train to do the Stoos Ridge Hike. Will that even be open during this time? Or any recommendation for hikes that will be open but have amazing views. I appreciate your help, I am hitting a wall on this.

Hii. Its going to be touristy. Interlaken is one of the most touristy towns. I always suggest to make reservations at restaurants. Best 1 day before to be safe.
