    Spot on recommendations as usual! Thanks for the tip about Breezeo laundry sheets--had never heard of them until you mentioned them last year. Took them on my month long trip last September and LOVED them. They did a great job of cleaning our clothes, both in the washing machines when we had them and in the sink in hotels. I'm down to just two pair of shoes on a trip. My Oboz for walking/hiking/rainy days and very good walking sandal for summer. I will be taking my first winter trip to Switzerland this year and will switch out my shoes for that, of course! I took advantage of winter sales and purchased several pair of merino wool socks (hiking and dress) for the upcoming December trip--I've tested them out and they're wonderful! One more thing--as Jana & Brett suggested, a good waterproof raincoat (and I'll add waterproof walking shoes) are worth their weight in gold. The raincoat is indeed, multi purpose.

    Any downsides to using a 40-55L backpack instead of a carry on suitcase? Thought being it would be easier to carry from destination to destination, instead of dragging a suitcase around. Trying to consider train theft as well and ease of securing. Thank you!

    • @AplinsintheAlps

      That’s really up to your preference! We used to carry backpacks, but now find suitcases easier to transport and pack/unpack. There aren’t many cobblestone streets here so that’s a plus.

    Enjoying your guys videos before my own trip to the alps. Few questions if you get a chance to read I appreciate it.
    I have the away bigger carry on, have you had any problem with the smaller plans not being able to fit in overhead bin? For ex a city hopper cdg to zrh.
    Would the away bigger carry on plus a 30L backpack be enough for about 12 days through the alps? I am going in the first two weeks of September. Primarily going to be hiking, is a down sweater or bigger jacket necessary or is a fleece sufficient?

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Thanks for following along! We have had to pay extra for our small carry on bags on small flights so you will likely have to as well, but of course that depends on the carrier. And we recommend a light down jacket for September-the evenings and mornings will likely be cool, maybe even a dusting of snow in the mountains in September as well. Enjoy your trip! 🙂

    Hi there. I love your packing tips. I am taking many notes. We are planning our month long stay in Switzerland. I have been trying to find an Air BnB. In one of you videos you got a 39% discount for booking for 30 days. I haven't been able to find a host that offers that type of discount. Do you know if AirBnb still does this?

    What size suitcase do you recommend for Swiss trains? I know we have to carry them ourselves, but am also concerned about space on the trains.

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  Před 29 dny

      Whatever size you can carry :) There are large luggage racks near the doors and small places below your seat and in the overhead bins, so really any size bag can fit on the train!

    I may have missed it. But do we need a type j plug adapter? For charging phones, power banks and cameras? I know my trip to the UK, my adapter was useless because USB ports were literally everywhere. Is this the same in Switzerland?

    • @yac1066
      @yac1066 Před 3 měsíci +3

      Il est indispensable d'avoir un adaptateur vers les prises format J, aussi bien pour les américains, que les européens si prise avec la terre.
      It is essential to have an adapter for J format sockets, both for Americans and other, for Europeans if socketed with earth.

    • @lauraezell7723
      @lauraezell7723 Před 3 měsíci +1

      As @yac1066 said, yes. A must. In my many trips to Switzerland I've found USB ports on the increase, but not all over the place. They're only on some trains and they're especially not in the charming older hotels where I enjoy staying. I keep a type J adapter in my backpack when I travel on the train for that very reason as many of the trains now have power outlets. You can get adapters now with USB ports along with the usual plug inputs for very little cost.

    Some great advice here, and I really must look at packing cubes!
    When I worked at Kuoni, SBB used to provide a service where your luggage would be taken straight off the plane and taken directly to your hotel (usually a few hours after you got there) - it would then be taken the morning of the departure and it would be in the hold of your plane. Does this service still happen? It was a lifesaver with my aunt!

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  Před 22 dny +1

      Such a cool service! They still have luggage services, but not instant like that - now you have to wait up to 2 days! You can check it out here: www.sbb.ch/en/tickets-offers/reservation-luggage/luggage-registration.html

      Great question! That really depends on where you’re going (low vs high elevations) and how late the snow liners. For example, it’s been really snowy in April so it may not warm up until late-June, but that really depends!
