Thanks TheFigara, really appreciate it.
Yes sir, CAN U DIG IT!!!!! Loving your uploads brother. Like I told u I just got a 04 liberty and you've been a big help. And yes I liked and subscribe. I'm a fan can u dig it.
Thanks Hector! Really appreciate your support.
You have the patience of a saint.
To pinpoint a noise like this one... Get about 6 or 7 feet of small rubber hose. Stick on end in your ear, move the other end around in the engine compartment. You will absolutely be able to tell when the other end of that hose is closest to the noise.
Just a heads up. My mom has a 02, 3.7 Liberty. I did an oil change for her. Then in about 3 days it was running hot, knocking like a mofo. Pulled a valve cover and it wasn’t getting any oil in the head. Oil and check engine light were both off. Come to find out it was the filter. It had an STP on it. So I put one back on it. Same part number on the filter itself, not just the box. The new one was shorter. The holes were different too. The label was slightly different as well. Only three days, Hand tight, and it wouldn’t come off. Had to drive a chisel through it and it came off. I assume it was outsourced to some Chinese or other place that messed up the design or I just maybe got a bad one(doubting it, since it looked different). Bought a Mobile 1. Because it was the only brand I knew wasn’t made by the same people. That was it. No more knock. I assume it couldn’t flow and was building pressure. Which made it so hard to remove. Glad she only drove about 1.5 - 2 miles.
I know this is an old video but these have lifter issues where the lifter gets dirty and sticks, then the rocker pops off and falls down into the valvetrain. If it's just an exhaust valve not opening you'll still see compression on your tester, but it can't evacuate the cylinder normally so it'll pop when the intake opens on the next round. I think this is what happened here, you can hear it popping.
Does cleaning with additives fix the dirty lifters?
@@thesetruths1404 They can clean them to an extent but the cleaner can't always get the build up from inside the lifter itself. In addition, if the lifter stuck and the rocker popped off, you'll need to open it up to fix that. A collapsed lifter will usually cause a tick and varying level of misfiring. If you lose a rocker arm, it will have a hard misfire and may or may not make a clattering sound (depending upon whether the rocker fell clear of moving parts or not). If you have to open it up, you'd be better off replacing the lifters to ensure you won't have to tear it apart again in the near future. Lifters aren't super expensive, it's the labor that will get you if you need to take it in.
It can be worth a try to use a cleaner first and see if it improves. BG Engine Flush is preferred by many if you want to search for review videos here on YT, it has worked wonders for some. It's supposed to be done in a shop, but I've seen it for sale on the big online evil empire named after a rainforest:-). Good luck!
This just happened to mine valve lash froze replaced it and ran like new same sound as the engine on video
@gillygill89 what do you mean by lash froze? What component did you replace. I have a similar issue
@@williamhaines1078 the lifters seized up it knocked off a rocker arm I had to take off valve cover and replace all 16 of them
You always do it great job. Thank you share;)
Thank yuo!
Fallen rocker arm is the problem 100% positive!!!!
Yeah but the milkshake oil is a sure sign of a blown head gasket.
U r the best
Aye real shit, this video is legitimately helpful
Hi, didn't you need to disconnect fuel to the cylinders? Some relay?
This happened to me, it was a fallen rocker arm. a bit hard to get to but a simple fix popping in the rocker arm. underneath the passenger side valve cover for me
Good to know, THANKS!
What measures did you take to diagnosis it ?
This is the same issues i am having with my 2005 jeep liberty 3.7 V6 engine. Is there a follow-up video to this jeep ?
Were is the EGR Val for this truck?
Great video 👍
12:33 the throttle valve is stuck open, a good cleaning needed
Any Chrysler product that is neglected it takes an expensive revenge and that is a promise from Chrysler
Really enjoyed the video! Thanks Mr Tim, can't wait for the crank kit video, Timmay!!
For some odd reason, I'm looking forward to it as well, lol!
Lol, maybe because your a super-tech!
LOLOLOLOL, may be...
I like how the alternator and A/C is so convenient and close to work on.
Good, that will be your job when we pull this engine out...lol
⭐ Astral Auto Repairs yloved yhave the same jeep. andy lerrn on this vidio save my money thanks
That's great to hear luis, thanks for letting us know.
Hi I have a 2007 Liberty 3.7L V6, 117,000 miles. Owned it since 67,000 miles. It operated perfectly for the first 30,000 miles and then it started getting a #1 Cyl misfire code P0301. It also seldomly gets a #1 cyl fuel injector circuit open P0201. It must be a very mild fault as the misfire freeze frame data shows it always happens at less than 350 rpm and when cleared it comes back immediately at next startup, cold or hot. So it seems to only happen once on startup as its moving up to regular idle speed. The miss isnt noticeable when driving or idling. Its getting 15.5 mpg fuel mileage. Doesnt burn oil. Doesnt smoke. Has great power. I've changed plugs and coils but no difference. Cleaned air intake, air filter, and ran cleaner through system. I've cleaned and inspected the injector plug and all wires but no difference. Dry / wet compression test of #1, 3 and 5 cylinders all read good: 160 / 175 psi.
I'm wondering if there's a mild wire defect for that injector, or just a flakey connection somewhere. Has anyone tried to use a new set of compatible gauge wires and run them to a place closer to the injector control? I can't see where the wires go though.
I'm not sure if I should just live with this, or troubleshoot it more. I don’t care about the engine light as we don't have emission requirements. Now that I know the compression is good, I'm not so worried about it.
Any suggestions of what to do next? Thanks!
I love your channel, you show most of the rebuild process in detail. My 2002 Jeep liberty motor is toast, 200K+ miles they found a cracked piston. How difficult do you think a used engine swap will be? I found a few low mileage motors online, but I would also have to buy an engine lift and all of the accessories, lift plate, chains, motor mounts etc.
Honestly itd be cheaper to just replace the cracked piston yourself.
Or heck, buy a new car!
Hello I did that and more codes came out in the for the check engine
Looked like the water pump wasn’t turning on the last run. Am I wrong?
I had an Oiler ring turn sideways pinching the rod in the lifter once. Sounded an awful lot like that.
Was there an engine error code?
Figara Tim your dressed better for work then most young esquires dress for a wedding today lol
LOL, good one!!
I was thinking the same thing what mechanic? 🤣, work on a car dressed up like going to a party, I thought it was a joke. ( video)🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@MrsNichyCastro You guys are TOO funny, LOL!!!!!!!!
Just like the Guy below said I know this is a 6-year-old video, but with that sound, low oil level, and low coolant. The white foam on the fill cap, I would say almost 99.999% sure it is a blown head gasket, and from the staining on the inside of the coolant reservoir I would say it is from overheating. I have the 2002 Jeep Liberty limited edition with 143,000 miles. these jeeps have known problems with water pump impeller rotting off and fan control relays. She is done for unless your customer wants to spend about $3k-$5k for a new used low mileage engine! She is done stick a fork in her.
Maybe pull valve cover and reinstall rocker arms?
Useful, thanks! Did you forget to subtract 30 from your cylinder compression tests? Or does it matter? Is just a number relative to each other?
Just because the needle is stock at 30 it doesn't mean that's zero.

Where is the intake air temperature sensor 2006 jeep liberty
i have a jeep kj liberty 05 and i just replace a new fuel pump and now i got a fuel light on and the needle drop to empty. whats that mean?
Did you get a complete module that comes with the fuel sender?
Yes
And I just plugged in my car reader and it says fuel sensor
WOW, if everything is plugged up, the new one is correct, and it worked before you replaced the module, then it looks like you got a bad module.
Ill get that check out
Do you have any speed jeep liberty speed sensor vids?
Sorry, no we do not. Here is a list of all our Jeep repair videos: czcams.com/video/4iTkNJwUQZ8/video.html
I have 03. Over 200k. Had that milky stuff also until I did valve cover gaskets. Air gets in and whips oil into froth.
So what did the customer decide to do about this car, Tim? Will there be a follow up video?
Yeah, there will be a few follow up videos. We will be taking the engine apart to see what it needs.
Do you and your guys take time off for Christmas? Hows the crew doing?
We're just taking off Christmas Eve and Christmas day, everyone is doing fine.
Disconnecting the coil isn't removing the spark plug
probably stuck lifters from crud accumulating. (guessing from 2:19).
Hi Tim. Looks like your hip deep in engine work.Stay warm I was just outside a few minutes ago burrrr. It won’t get much past 30 tomorrow.
I'm loving it, this is my kind of weather. I hate the summer...lol
I’m the same way.I will take 60 degree all day though. Are they going to get the engine replaced in the Jeep?
Not sure exactly how she's going to handle it yet. I'll keep everyone up to date.
Is this the same jeep that u did the water pump on.. I see why u didn't charge them to look at it.. What u do to this jeep
My daughter has that car she loves it, but it doesn’t sound like that. Tim I’m going to follow this repair too.
When they first came out, I wanted one. It looks like we may have another project on our hands...to be continued...
Should top off oil first.
From May to December with the same oil , oh boy the owner is a destroyer
Couldn't you have just pulled fuse for fuel pump and that would have ensured the engine would not start up.
3:12 Head gasket.
Deff has misfire.
Did you deduct 30 lbs from your starting point of 30 psi of zeroed out...hmmm...blown head and dumping fuel and oil thru cat ???
The man needs a tie tack .
I agree. New waterpump is an indicator. Coolant loss is one too. I would imagine one or both head gaskets are bad aswell.
Looks like a full rebuild.
New water pump was put on two weeks ago because it was leaking. There was two plugs that we soaked, but we only smelled a little gas on them. Then there was the one plug that was burning SUPER rich.
i'm interested in finding out what caused it first, so i look forward you y'all's explanation
You'll definitely find out when we do
New tools to work with to start with to test with
The camera sounds good
THANKS Hector, it was really windy out.
I know its been a year but did u find the problem with the motor? I ask because i ran into this same situation, same noise and some weird codes on an 07. Removed the valve covers and somehow, some way, a rocker arm came out from under the retainer and was laying under the valve cover. Ive heard of only a handful of libertys that have had the same identical issue and seems it comes from high revving. Put the rocker arm back in its place and the jeep has been running fine ever since. Doesnt make sense but that was the issue. Wasnt catastrophic engine failure.
On this one the damage was caused because they ran it with no oil.
Do you need oil? lol
@@lar4305 LOL
Astral auto repairs absolutely nothing wrong with bottom end of that motor bet you 1,000 bucks if u pull that driver side valve cover off you will find that a rocker arm come off!!!!!!!!! It's a very simple fix cost maybe 10bucks at most y'all pulled out a motor for nothing look on CZcams under jeep liberty fallen rocker arms on 3.7 engines bet you I'm right!!!!!!
@@ryanswinney5026 Yes you are correct about the rockers, and that is because of the sunk lifters, but didn't you hear the bottom end locking up?
Fix p2096 jeep liberty 2006
Remove the all belt and start again
check both cam and crank position sensors...in fact, just change them out, they are cheap!!
Another parts changer
@@everettcalhoun8197 what's that supposed to mean? They are cheap and quite frankly a MISSED part in a TON of issues people have with many vehicles. Most people don't even have any idea what they are.
Say you find the problem with any car and you tell the customer.. And they don't want to fix it with you.. Do you still charge for that service call?
It depends on the customer, like this one we won't charge her.
After re-reading your question, I answered it wrong. Here is the correct answer:
We charge $50 to diagnose a problem, and that is no matter how long it takes us, but usually, I would say about 95% of the time, I will have it diagnosed within that hour. Now that charge is whether they get it fixed by us or not. We don't charge to come out, just that diagnostic fee, UNLESS they know what they want done to their vehicle.
As you have seen, sometimes they call us just to replace a part. So we give them a price, then do the job, but we MUST get paid BEFORE we do the job.
Here is complete details of how we operate: www.astralautorepairs.com/howitworks.asp
Engine is shot
the radiator over flow bottle is over the 5th and 6th pistons. so the coil and plug get killed by the water dropping on them. replace the 5th and 6th coil and plugs... until the bottle leaks again.
You got a point there John Beasley! I have a 04 Liberty and my radiator overflow nipple on the bottom of it had a crack and it dripped all over my spark plug down into my coil but I caught it just in time I believe that could be the problem also! That's right on the money! You hit the nail right on the head!
It might be the camera, but it sounds a little like rod knock. That Liberty needs some major work.
It does, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what happened. Maybe I'll get the Jeep over here with the Monte Carlo (WOW), and all of us can figure this out.
got 250 k out of mine
Milky oil cap just condensation. Too many short trips
Cool, I can go with that, now we need to figure out what the heck happened here. We spoke to the owner, and we will try to get the Jeep here for a PART 2, and go over details with you guys.
Wishful thinking. Most likely a blown head gasket.
My son has a 2003 liberty 3.7l with 186,000 mi. his oil cap looks white milky in the winter time but clears up in the summer ? Its been like this for years. Never has to add coolant, oil changes every 3000 miles.
someone change oil dint put enough
how could the owner not even put a coolant in barely minimum or engine oil? that car was hopeless the moment it was bought.
Some people just don't understand. Believe me, she understands now.
Tim I might have a motor for that it's 60,000 mile on it let me now if u r interested
Wow Paul, you're into used engines now, lol! GET THIS...a rebuilt engine from autozone is $2600 - $3000, and a used one is $1490. What the heck is up with these engines?
I'm how much
cant hear you,to windy
Good job! NoneMechanic doing an engine. OOOOOOO
That's going to be so much fun, can't wait.
Motor is shot ...should b 180 compression or more
