The novelist Thomas Hardy didn't create this complete male character in this novel, but he was the person he was in his novel, and I never doubted that he was this perfect, to tell US that there are noble men in this world without palaces or money. I'm believe that some day I will meet this person too. every girl like her deserve that.
Having once been rejected , it was very unlikely that Gabriel was going to ask again. Knowing this, Bathsheba had to find a way to let him know that another proposal would be accepted and then do a bit of proposing herself ... to make up for rejecting him in the past. Hardy the consummate feminist!
She means that he hasn't asked her after everything that has happened. It's kinda a story of redemption. She fell in love with the world's charms, a swoony soldier, and realizes that she is about to lose the one man that has stood by her side and completely forgives her mistakes. He is madly in love her with and withholds his feelings to protect himself. She withholds her feelings because she is afraid of being hurt yet realizes she made a mistake. It's quite beautiful.
I think the sweet music in this scene really helps push it over the top too. After reading these comments, I'll have to finally read the book. Sure love the film, though
They missed some great parts from the book where she saves Gabriel. I think she loved Troy blindly. He did manipulate her into a marriage. But even after that she was blissfully happy with him for a short while. When he died she wept and brought his body to her house. he wanted to possess Troy. But Gabriel was the only one who loved her through her good times and bad. But I think he loved her coz she was very beautiful and her beauty bewitched her and he never saw through her and her evil deeds at times. I think she realised that if she said yes to gabriel it would only b if she had no other options. after the wedding she realised that troy was not the man she thought he would b and regretted it and although she did go to end it (before the marriage) she wanted to possess him when he made her jealous. In the end she realised that she was at a mature stage and had lost everything and didn't want to lose the one man who was there by her side. I think she felt comfortable with gabriel. She did try to end it and that is why she went to troy but she also was crazy in lust with him. I think she never though gabriel loved her truly and feared that he was just enamoured by her beauty coz he proposed too soon. troy flattered her shamelessly but accepted it willing. in the book gabriel doesn't get to dance with her and is not present when troy gets shot which is far more tragic coz he could have prevented it. even when troy was weeping over fanny's dead body she was trying to stop it. she just couldn't grasp reality that troy never loved her.
@@pabloricodiamenka9325 The whole point of the book/movie is that they couldn't have married at the start when he asked the first time, they needed the trials and tribulations and character development to truly understand and love and respect each other.
This movie age like fine wine, so good and so deep
I was holding my breath the entire scene. That is what happens when you don't kiss or touch the entire movie!! Aajjnjjjkkkkk
Maybe that’s why love is so stupid now a days. That expectation is just gone

He did ask and she said no, the proof is his response " would you say no again " cause she did said no at the begining
With respect of many roomcoms that I loved nobody teach to the Brits how to make ending in romantic movies...
what?
The film is able to reproduce only 1/10 of the entire feeling and emotions of the
book.
Agreed I didn’t feel the chemistry
How you stop before the actual ending?!

How does ahe saves gabriel, what happens?
@@Cinderella-mc8kf At the beginning, his hut catches fire while he's asleep and he would've burned to death if she didn't save him in time.
I can't get this story off my head man..so many mixed emotions
I don't couldn't day no to Mr. Oak. But Bathsheba was strong minded intelligent
He did ask at the begining and she refused !
