  • In this video Big Tractor Power is out in the field with an INTERNATIONAL 686 Tractor with a JOHN DEERE 7200 MaxEmerge 6 row 30 inch corn planter. This video shares the 66 hp tractors production history, specifications and original price tag. The 686 was one of the last tractors from INTERNATIONAL available with a triple-cycle narrow front end.

      I agree with you I have a remanufactured rebuilt deer 7000 just like that only has four row and I have precision meters in and they'll stand some pretty high-speed planting if I usually run mine about 3 mph now granted I don't have his amount of corn to plant some of these guys do but I found you don't push too hard don't go too fast you get a nice understand and you're a lot easier on the planter the tractor and not to mention the operator

      When my dad was a contractor, here in New Zealand, we used to run 2 jd 7000 4 row planters, mainly because they were easier to get into farmer's paddocks, we planted about 6-700 acres a year with those, pulling them with jd 6410's.

    That thing is a little sweetheart of a tractor. Somebody has some time in the restoration on that one. I’d venture a guess it’s a little north of 66 horse now cause there is definitely a turbski under the hood now. Lol

    I planted a many a row with that very 7200 30 inch John Deere planter loved every minute of it. Don't use it anymore but still have it.

    Dad bought a 686 back in the early 90s with 400 hours on it. Still uses it to plant today and now it has over 9000 hours

    My family's farm ran a 560 for years until the cylinders froze up. Still have it and plan to restore it. We still run an 806 on the manure spreader and the hay rake. It was the biggest HP tractor on the farm until this year. Love the old red iron!

      I joined the 21st century and bought a JD 5125R, the first green tractor we've had on the farm.. My brother made up for it by buying and restoring a Farmall M identical to the one we sold in the 80s. 😄 Love the videos!

    I pretty much grew up on the dairy farm down the street when I was a kid starting in the 60s until I went to college. The farmer bought a brand new ih 656 in the 60s, I think. Tricycle front end don’t remember if gas or diesel. That box you see on the right fender of that 686 is a am radio. There was also one on the 656. Don’t know how good you could hear it as I was too small to drive that tractor. Awesome video! Thanks

    My Grandpa fooled around with them little Ford and Case tractors in the mid 60"s--then a good IH dealer talked him into buying a "real tractor" {his words}That 656 narrow front diesel is still here along with a 686 wide front diesel he purchased as well-these 2 tractors have no balance due to us-in fact i"ve told the boys if there is ever a fire to get these out and leave the 7330 premiums for second--once a IH man--always a IH man-thx for the memories

    We have had several as of now Super M,685,666,C90,986 and 7110. Good show. I not a green fan but that is a good planter.

    Good classic tractor! We had one and just sold it a few years ago now. We are an International combine and tractor family here in the Willamette Valley of Oregon.

    Pulled a JD 7000 6 row planter with a 656 gas tractor for many years before retiring 4 years ago. Still have the tractor with 10,000 hours on it and motor never been touched!

    Ran an old 656 many hours. Good dependable tractors. Had a friend who had a gas model. Used it for odd jobs and hay.

    We run a Farmall M, 460, 706, 766, 966, 1486, Case IH 5120, and Case IH Magnum 7110. We also have other J.I Case tractors.

    Great tractors. We have a gas 686 with a 2250 loader on it. Much tighter than the 656 it took over for even tho they are basically the same. It was a one owner tractor when we bought it, all original.

    I have an 886 with the ROPS. My father purchased it new in 1978. Still use it along with a Farmall 656 and Farmall M to run a hobby farm. Mainly hay making. Guess I always thought the 886 was the lowest one in that series, that’s the literature I found with the books for the tractor. Learned something new today.

      Nice IH line up. My neighbor had an 886 ROPS, 686 and 656. I like the ROPS 886 allot. The 686 was the entry model and jumped to the 886. In 1981 the 686 was replaced by a 786 which is on a larger frame. The 786 only came as an open station and a ROPS.

      I love the sound of the 886 diesel and the snort of the 656 gasser! Had to rebuild the 886 engine last year due to a cylinder sleeve getting a pinhole and dumping all the coolant into the oil. That was my dad’s tractor when we were farming, so trying to keep them in good condition. Always had red for tractors mainly, I do have a AC D17 series IV tractor I used a lot growing up, unfortunately it’s in rough shape. It’s had a lot of use over the years.

    Nice ride right their be great with sonthing needing to be turned around sharp i like row crops great for tilling rows and plowing hit the end of row and spin right around some say use the break but i never had to use a break on one

    Nice machine. It does look a little funny with the light bars on the fenders. I think they look great on old cab tractors above the windshield or on a hard canopy, but it just looks wrong in place of the round lamps.

    I might be wrong, but from my understanding, isn't the 686 just a continuation of the 666, which is a continuation of the 656? Of course with drive train updates and body style changes.

    Oh wow, I didn't knew, that these tractors were build in Neuss. I was there at a factory tour in 1993 I guess when the maxxum came out, it was amazing.
    But it is also closed now 😢

      Very cool you got to see the factory. The 686’s diesel engine was manufactured in Neuss the tractor was built in Rock Island. The 756’s engine was also made at Neuss.

    Hope he has ear plugs in.....I used to plant with a 706 Farmall and a 8-36 400 IH cyclo planter with out a cab...it was loud.
