    [Verse 1]
I got no reason to believe
Just a theory that we do appease
I don’t know what you want from me
Where you go to get your ecstasy
Start tapping rhythm from the source
Maybe I could be your Crazy Horse
    [Pre-Chorus]
    We only wanted to be
We only wanted to be sure
    What is it for?
    Come get me
    We only wanted to be
    We only wanted to be
    [Chorus]
    What you thinkin’?
Got more than enough for you, yeah
Over and over and over again, well
Over and over until its end
    What you thinkin’
    White buffalo be drinkin’ dirty
Over and over and over again, well
Over and over with all my friends
    [Verse 2]
I think the two of us should go
For a drive like maybe Idaho
Road trip circuits just around the bend
I could be your beneficial friend
Call me every name in the book
Punk-ass fascist and a dirty crook
    [Pre-Chorus]
    We only wanted to be
We only wanted to be sure
    What is it for?
    Come get me
    We only wanted to be
    We only wanted to be
    [Chorus]
    What you thinkin’?
Got more than enough for you, yeah
Over and over and over again, well
Over and over until its end
    What you thinkin’
    White buffalo be drinkin’ dirty
Over and over and over again now
Over and over with all my friends
    [Bridge]
I got these things in mind, you know
    South Dakota, show the buffalo
In the Black Hills you could find it all
Blood runs thick like from a waterfall
    This broken native entity
    Dreaming clean-up on the century
This horse is crazy not to be
    This horse is crazy
    [Chorus]
    What you thinkin’?
Got more than enough for you, well
Over and over and over again, yeah
Over and over until its end
    What you thinkin’
    White buffalo be drinkin’ dirty
Over and over and over again now
Over and over with all my friends

This is an absolute masterpiece. My instantly favorite from an album of wonderful songs. Flea's staccato/muting bass style is as new as phenomenal. Never heard it by him in the past. Nothing to say about John's solo: I'm in awe. Challenges the Empyrean in a more RHCP way. I just can't wait to hear it live. Oh, Anthony's vocals are good as they've never been.

    • @NautilusGuitars
      @NautilusGuitars Před 2 lety +20

Yeah, I can't believe more people aren't talking about this bass part. It's an entirely new style of playing. I'm a pretty proficient bass player and have been digging into the most obscure players for 15 years to find people who are doing something entirely unique. For it to be Flea, one of my long-time favorites, is just amazing to me.
And like you said, it's different for flea. But that's what makes him so great. He can switch it up and still stay on the ball, like he did when he suddenly started playing with a pick. The rest of the song is killer, but man, flea might have invented an entirely new style of playing and to do that today is nearly impossible. But he did it.
I just love how twitchy and weird and behind beat it is, while still being in the pocket. It's got that perfect J-Dilla "drunk" feel. Then how strange the note progression is while still being locked in melodically. Only Flea can do the weirdest thing possible while still being entirely grounded in the rhythm melody. The guy is a true powerhouse.

    • @matteobonichi2843
      @matteobonichi2843 Před 2 lety +6

@@NautilusGuitars yeah man, I'm a bass player myself and what shocked me the most about this one is that is almost ENTIRELY played with this technique. Is not a bridge or a musical interlude. Is the bassline that drives the track. Interesting the J Dilla comparison, because I think Flea took a lot of inspiration to write it, at least from a rhythm standpoint, from early hip hop artists. He and John are notorious fans and listeners of people like Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, NWA ecc. J Dilla is even quoted by Anthony in a song from the previous album I can't really point my finger on now (Detroit maybe?). Absolutely brilliant anyways.

such a great chorus and it starts out with Flea and Anthony really connecting.. Love how Anthony sings the same part that Flea plays.. similar to the way he does with John on many older songs.
