That guitar solo is the perfect example of why everyone missed John. So much emotion in his playing.

Love John but man, Josh was that guy!
My dead son Austin was a huge RHCP fan because of me and I am regretful that Austin couldn't get to hear this song in tribute to Eddie and this new RHCP album. He missed it by 2 months damnit. Lovely tribute and I hope Austin can hear it from up there....We had plans to go see them on this new tour and life had different plans. RIP Austin and Eddie.
So sorry for your terribly sad news 😔 Did you know there's a song called 'Afterlife' on their up coming album 'Dream Canteen'? Haven't read/heared the lyrics yet but I hope that song speaks to you in a special way 🙂
He can hear it
Don’t worry, I’m sure he’s listening to it right now where ever he may be ❤️
@mattdaddy1911 I’m so sorry for your loss…I think he can hear them every time u listen to them.
Thank you for sharing. Wishing you all the best in your mourning
"Doing that solo was a mind fuck, I'll tell you that. And it was the last solo I did out of all the 48 songs we recorded. I saved it for last, because the idea of having a song about Eddie Van Halen, you're basically saying to people, "Think about Eddie Van Halen." And then when it comes to this long guitar solo at the end, you're going "Now watch this!" And I did not like that idea. I was even thinking of cutting the solo entirely, because I did not know how to go about it. I was trying for a while, and I wasn't happy with anything I was doing. I was either going too far in the Eddie Van Halen direction, to where it was too busy and there was too much two-handed tapping and it didn't sound like me, or I was just doing it and it only sounded like me... in a song about Eddie Van Halen.
I just turned off my mind and stopped thinking about it. I stopped being self-conscious about the idea that the song was about Eddie Van Halen and just did what was natural. We were recording, and I took maybe a 15-minute break. And when I came back in, I just did the whole thing in one take. Whatever Eddie Van Halen is in there, it's just there because of my love for his playing since I was eight years old."

Good to read while listening..thx

That pretty much sums it up perfectly. There's no other Eddie, but being influenced by Eddie pays him a great tribute.

Man flea slapping the bass while John gets down on the guitar with chad on the drums and Anthony on vocals this song slams hard
Man, Frusciante finds some crazy fantastic unique tones for the guitar, he's a master on that. And this song is amazing, I love it. The whole band is unbelievable. Thank you guys, because of you a kid at 9 years old decided to learn how to play guitar and is still playing now with 33.

The best song the chilis have done in a long time imho. It has everything, a catchy hook, harmonious guitars and that bass line, um! John's beautiful backing vocals and unbelievable guitar solo holding it altogether with chads "otherside" like drums - very Californicationesque - excellent!

John absolutely gave me LIFE with his solo. He made his guitar scream and cry. My soul.
The solos get me teary eyed every time 😭
This song jus grew on me. Every element in this song is so in harmony and make me feel like I am over the clouds and that guitar solo takes me even higher.
btw this visualizer reminds me nothing other than the old windows media player, that's something I almost forgot of
This song made me feel just like I did when I found out Eddie had passed. The solo was a genius-level tribute without slipping into mimicry. As an Eddie fanatic who graduated in '85, the line "It's only 1983" hit me like no other line A.K. ever wrote. Oof. Time to give "Women and Children First" another spin.
what does that line mean? im so lost on the references in this song since i was never a eddie fan unfoutunraltey
@@klickj26 1983 was the US Festival and the 1984 album about to drop which took Van Halen popularity to the stratosphere.
@@jamesragsdale8202 Thank you
I understood most of the references. “Amsterdam” his background is Dutch, his father was from Amsterdam. Also I loved the reference to “Hot for Teacher”, about him getting aroused “Little sombrero, cause teacher was way too hot”. Ha
@@jamesragsdale8202 can you elaborate a bit on why Anthony is saying "please don't remember me"? I got a few of the references but that one is lost on me and it seems really integral to the song
This might just be one of my all time favourite RHCP songs. Absolutely breathtaking from start to finish.
That broken guitar sound in the last solo is how everyone felt when when the notice of eddie died came out, that feeling that only John was able to transpose to the guitar.
Guitar is excellent; I too greatly miss a friend, Eddie
The power in this song is so uplifting and I just love this. Frusciante’s solo combined with Flea’s bass is such an amazing combo. Wow. Great singing, great instrumental ❤️ love u RHCP
Tribute to Eddie Van Halen
John's guitar playing is some what spiritual. So much emotion with every note . GOOSE BUMPS
It IS spiritual. Good that you pointed it out because it's true!
This guy is the reason I play guitar
that is what makes him so great to me. He has a very high level of technical ability but still has lots of passion and emotion in his playing. Usually you get one or the other. I know tons of virtuosos who make empty unlistenable music and tons of crappy players with lots of heart. John Fruisciante is a one in a million, one of the best guitarists of his generation.
I heard that solo live. I've been blessed, love ya John
It's about time somebody paid tribute to Eddie 2 years later.
This album is going to be full of bangers
Amazing song. Eddie Van Halen was an incredible musician and person. RIP
GOD please bless us with at least 5 more RHCP albums. These guys may be above 50 yo but their souls are truly childlike.
just played this song at my dads funeral and he woke up
