I think you have the whole "Power/Control/Influence seeking" paradigm of the ENTP way off. ENTP's want to be valued for their thorough process, not their conclusions... We detest arbitrary rigidity and place a high value on autonomy... We think in the abstract and use several reference points which is how we get our slogan of devils advocate. We're not trying to cast influence and corner someone into an opinion but rather liberate people from closed mindedness.

Because ENTPs are known to be complete psychopaths... or at least infamous with scoring high on the Dark Triad personality tests... that is certain
Just like the INTJ or ENTJ is seen as psychopaths just because of the feeling functions being too negative or inferior enough not to be well developed.
I'm a well developed F, so I scored INFJ one time. But that still doesn't mean I am not an ENTJ (even less an ENFJ). It just means that I am a better ENTJ than I was before...!

Most tests online are trash and wrong in terms of what that means since they are just meant to boost your ego and exercise some sort of control over you. Both ENTPs and ENFPs get misunderstood often, and most of the MBTI types get stereotyped because knowing all of the cognitive functions, and how they translate to the process of thinking, feeling, perceiving the world, and making decisions etc. takes a long time. I think this video is helpful for people who are trying to figure out if they are Ti first or Fi. We all want to be good at what we love, and at some point we all seek connection, it's a matter of how we do that and what has to happen first for us. We have to go deep into MBTI in order for it to truly make sense.

Glad it helped you! Yes, there's many things to look for when comparing ENFPs and ENTPs:
EF: Desire to connect, bond with others: Highest meaning is to have true access to others, to experience oneness with people, animals, or nature.
ET: More intimidating and more "cocky": Highest meaning is to be respected and seen as competent at what they do
TP: Primary mission is learning and acquiring and testing skills.
FP: Primary mission is understanding the deeper aspects of human nature and what human nature looks "underneath" all its makeup and all its layers. Authentication.

You once typed me as ENFP but everything about ENTP suits me, including the content of this video. I always strive for achievement and recognition in my professional career and field of study (computer science). I love building my knowledge base just for the thrill of learning new things that might open opportunities. Research and development careers are very attractive options for me. I often find myself being very direct at work and my girlfriend says "why do you have to turn everything into a debate?". We have often argued over the semantics of words and definitions and she thinks I'm an obvious ENTP. I tend to strip emotion out of the context to be as objective as possible. She said "why do you always have to be logical?", which makes me laugh lol (that might make me sound like a dick lol).
I think when I made a video for you I was very depressed (I just left my master's degree and was at a pretty low point in my life). I think that when a person is depressed they tend to open up more, something that feels uncomfortable for me, but when I get like that I tend to seek external validation and hate myself for it (probably one reason I seek MBTI in times like this to discover "just who the fuck am I?!"). I'm glad I am over that but everything in my life does not seem to suggest I use Fi and Te. I'm a big Ti user and use Fe a lot but mostly when I'm not quite feeling like myself. This is one reason I thought I was an INTP befdore you showed me that I was actually more on the extroverted side, which I am very grateful for. Knowing that has helped me a lot so thank you! Politics and sociology/psychology are also big hobbies of mine because I have a fascination for learning about people and how they think, such as how people develop their moral frameworks and tend to process reasoning mixed with hidden biases. I think this is how I best use Fe in a healthy way.
You mention ENTPs highly valuing capability (to be really really good at something). I do this relentlessly with computer programming, software engineering, and computer science topics (like text analysis, text mining, machine learning, distributive systems, and high performance computing) and I love teaching the higher up's stuff they don't know and learning new techniques and tools quickly so that I can best help them and so they think of me as knowledgeable. I also have youtube videos to pass on my knowledge of certain interests I enjoy for the same reasons. You also mention influence. This is obviously very related to the above I just mentioned.
I think you should take into account when doing your MBTI video retrospective service, the reasons for why they are doing the test/video recording and whether or not they're in a good state of mind because you saying I was an ENFP played on my mind for a while. I researched more and more to try to get to a definitive conclusion on whether my knowledge of MBTI was incorrect because me preferring Fi-Te over Ti-Fe made very little sense and I struggle to reach the same mindset in conversations with my ENFP friends and on subreddit. Seeing the functions in practice showed that I was thinking very different from them (because I was using the opposite judging functions) and it meant I was getting into arguments when I never meant to upset people. I find it frustrating when people interpret my behaviour as combative rather than simply trying to learn through a rational discussion.
Sorry for the long ass comment!

I'mma entp and for me, there are 2 things I love more then anything else. First is trying anything new. Second (which is probably more interesting lol) is figuring something out. Like rn I'm in college and I'm doing a couple of projects for some of the clubs I'm in. For one of these clubs in gotta make a website. I usually procrastinate working on it but when I do I feel so fckin good. I think it's partially because I am learning new stuff and partially cause I'm see what I'm doing going into effect. Then for another club I'm working with Arduino boards which is fun in a completely different way. I gotta figure out how to wire things and all that and it's fantastic. I even taught myself how to use a bread board... And what a voltage divider is lol. While this is going on I'm also in a meditation class which is honestly pretty bomb if I'm being honest. It's fun to just do things even (it rather especially) if I don't know what I'm doing cause then I get to learn how to do it lol

I'm fascinated by cognitive functions and I discovered your channel recently and think your explanations are the most spot on I've seen. This video was of interest to me particularly because I'm an ENFP who's dated a couple of ENTPs. Both times it started with an amazing instant connection and then they ended things suddenly because they said I wanted something more serious than they could give even when I hadn't expressed that desire to them and was actually fine with the status quo. I sensed they were scared by their emotions and used those emotions to form a Ti judgement, and they were unable to explain their reasoning to me. As an ENFP with pretty developed Te, I find that I understand Ti somewhat, but if the person can't explain things in a practical sense, i.e. what the problem or concern is so it can be addressed or fixed, I'm not sure how to communicate with them. Is there something that I as an ENFP can do to either mitigate this effect of ENTPs reading things that aren't there (with Fe maybe)? Maybe Fi is the problem? Or is there a way to argue better through that (to me) impenetrable Ti logic? Do you think that the ENFP/ENTP romantic relationship is much harder than a friendship between these two types?
Thanks in advance if you have any thoughts, and keep doing what you're doing!

I'm an entp female dating an enfp male. Laying that out there before I begin with my thoughts on your question because women and men work differently.
YEAH I've had that feeling before, I actually still have the feeling that my enfp partner loves me with a much higher intensity than I do. It's not that entp's aren't capable of loving to such intensity, it's that we get sidetracked because love/connection is not what makes us feel "incredible" like it does for enfps.
We feel incredible through defeating and conquering life's adversities, so finding a partner that can create those adversities and fight them with us is what I think is our goal in a relationship.
If my enfp male partner wasn't stimulating me into growth, I would've become bored and left.
And also, I felt an other worldly connection to him from the second I met him (twin flame kind of thing)
I absolutely adore enfp - entp romances hahahaha they can be pretty incredible . my partner and I command rooms without even trying to ^-^

Do you find when a male ENTP is explaining something you come to a similarity more so because you speak the same language or because you really believe gender doesn't play as big a role? I realize that both are gonna relate a lot more especially since they are Thinking types and what they are going to express are technical ideas but the moment they try to say something unique I find it hard seeing as they have subjective logic and Si that there isn't a bigger distinction. Not sure if any of this made sense lol.

    • @bluesunset9385
      @bluesunset9385 Před 7 lety

Maybe he was using Fe to make an objective claim on the ability to make you happy down the road. As for explaining something in a practical sense doesn't everyone say that about everyone? Then again maybe he had difficulty relating to Fi because it is a subjective claim on someone's moral character which can upset Fe users. We spend a lot of time trying to individualize our mind and when we get bottom lined it can feel a bit crushing. At least this is a lot of the way in that moment it may seem unless someone with an Fe function can learn to nurture their emotions that are particular to them ....... or something like that I'm currently undertaking this phase after meeting an ESFP :)!

Much harder to be with a type that shares more than two letters with your type. In general... The ideal is that only one or 2 functions are the same. Because still with all functions being alien to the other personality type doesn't mean opposites attract each other like that, there is too much incompatibility when it's the opposite type. You must repeat one letter at least to turn that compatibility levels the max...!

As to whether I take logic or my emotions into consideration when making important decisions, it honestly depends on the situation, some situations demand for the emotions to be understood and taken into account, while in other circumstances, it is best to rely on logic, and that is how I make decisions. Great video! Though I do have one critique. I'd be inclined to disagree on your point about ENTPs intrinsically possessing a lesser degree of organization and structure. I'd argue that the ENTP might, in fact, have a higher degree. I think when ENTPs can learn to step back into their Ti and Si a bit, and take a moment to analyze all those possibilities, an astonishing level of versatile, systematic structure can form in addition to a great deal of motivation for organization. Though, of course, it's difficult for ENTPs to step into that mode, and I would argue that we aren't wired to exist in that state at all times.

You are blethering. MB is a totally invented model, pulled out of someone's ass. Use big 5 - it's far better, and actually rests on huge data sampling and solid maths (factor analysis). Nobody decided "big 5" - the 5 fell out of the data, and the factor analysis. You're wasting valuable time trying to squeeze your personality into the concocted and binary Myers Briggs system.

This makes it so clear, I can say that I am an ENTP now because I focus so much more on achievement than connection, I also find flow when I am working on completing or achieving something. I was very confused before this because I care a lot about social issues and having good relationships with people, and I have been scored both an ENTP and ENFP on different tests. I realized though, that the motivation is important and I care about social issues and things mostly because I would want to achieve harmony and fix the parts that are broke or aren’t working. I think coming at it from this frame would be more of an ENTP way of thinking. I also am much better at communication than listening, and so listening has been a skill I’ve had to work hard to improve on. I really enjoyed this video, it provided a lot of great insight! 😎

I'm always told that I have a childlike expressivity whenever something sparks my interest and one of the first things people notice about me is that I learn very quickly because I'm highly analytical (this part is usually seen by people who either work with me or are used to reading people). Like, one could say my hobby is simply learning. Anything that catches my interest at the moment. I realized that the stuff I learn about myself is mostly general patterns that I transpose onto my life until I find a match, like I'm my own therapist, but I don't do very well with feelings. I'm always looking for a why and sometimes, there's just no answers. This can be incredibly upsetting to be told to just accept things the way they are... :( For me, it's like being told that the sky is blue because a higher power made it this way. It's neither satisfactory, nor convincing.

I am type 5 ENFP (I share many characteristics with type 2, but my core fears and values are type 5) and I sometimes feel so split. As I child, I got straight As, went beyond what was expected of me and was a perfectionist. I was very introverted and hated spending time with people and talking to them, but I’ve always loved to help and support them. Now I’m an ambivert that learned to truly love people but I still prefer to be alone and do some interesting research. Now I’m able to go weeks in my extroverted lane, but then I need at least a week off to recover. I need to feel appreciated for my effort and I treasure when others value my input (type 2 characteristics - plus I’m often unable to say no), but I hate to be in the spotlight. I prefer to do things alone (I’ll google it until I go grey but I hate asking for help - except when it comes to people I look up to and admire) and I hate when people are irresponsible with their feelings and with feelings of others.

So I tend to side towards enfp. Simply because of the stronger feelings triggered in communication. Beyond that both can be relatable. I dont say I change myself ever. More so, I'm a product of everyone and everything I've surrounded. So seeing things from numerous perspectives is a result of communication and most enfp dont take a heavy stance but an open one. It's how we determine what is needed. Simply listening and respecting other people isnt an attempt to recruit people to follow us. I dont walk up to people trying to promote myself. In fact I very rarely stay in any group or stay in anyplace long enough for any direct benefit of a follower or a group of followers. I'm the same person at heart in every conversation with everyone.

When you said that enfps are better listeners and entps are communicators- I just realized I might have been mistyped all these years. Can I be an Entp? The tests give me Entp and Enfp. I am a very sensitive person, I can cry because of the sad song of Lana Del Rey, damn it. I adore romantic films with beautiful aesthetics and fullness of feelings. I love to run music through myself. I love sensations, fantasies, beauty. I am very sensitive to other people's criticism, I can be very choleric. I can be indecisive, but at the same time, I can write to an ex after 4 months of separation and a friend with whom we had a big fight, just because it came into my head. At the same time, I cannot be angry for a long time, but I can also be vindictive. I often forgive people, but at the same time I don't trust anyone, I can be very manipulative. I really appreciate logic and facts, although emotions overwhelm me as a result, I still choose logic, as it will be better for me. I am very skeptical, even to myself. I love to learn everything new and find the truth in unresolved cases, I have been studying mbti for 2 weeks now and I even think about it in my SLEEP, my thinking process just never stops. I'm stubborn and purposeful, that's the only thing I understand. Like "I don't need sleep, I need answers." Although I am somewhat of a humanist, and it bothers me when people do not pay attention to other people's feelings, at the same time I am very selfish, and most likely I will make a decision in my favor. I can only sacrifice myself in relationships, where I am very giving. But if I cannot emotionally interfere with a person, I do not give in to him. Friends always accuse me of selfishness, that I don’t know how to take other people’s points of view, because I need a WEIGHT argument to compare my opinion with someone else. But at the same time, I am very empathic and read the emotions of others well, I can cry because of other people's emotions if they are similar to my experience, I used to help people a lot, they were a personal psychologist, I realized that people do not appreciate this, and just stopped helping people and searched so deeply in others. At the same time, I don’t know how to emotionally support people, I don’t know how to verbally sympathize, I just fall into a stupor. I mean, I have a very strong Fi because I love to dive into emotions and feel them, they are in the territory of a huge part of my life, but that does not mean that I give in to everything I want. I can only be very impulsive when shopping, but as far as real life goes, I'll think twice. At the same time, I like to live in the present moment, but I always want to improve my life, I think in advance what can be fixed, what opportunities there are. I have a very strong Ne, I think. I am one of those who think 10 options ahead of the development of events in any situation, I am one of those who "warn" people and myself. I often argue with people, I don't just believe in sayings or facts on the internet. I love sarcasm and original answers. I am very skeptical and don't trust people or anything I see. I just can't have too much Te. I think I have Ti and strong. Though I also love attractive men, but more in others I am attracted by the brain and erudition, I am excited by someone else's self-confidence and foresight. Whatever I think about myself will never happen in ENFP or ENTP. If there was any intermediate option, it would be me! Am I too sensitive ENTP or am I still ENFP? But I think ENFP is too simple for me, and for ENTP I feel too many emotions. I think due to mbti stereotypes, real understanding of types is difficult.

I dont think that the enfp just relys on a higher form of communication with just people but connecting with peoples souls and are on a spiritual quest. Because of the way we see patterns I often figure out the patterns in other people and the excavation of getting to know someone is also a form of self-actualization. Sometimes I see some spooky stuff and jump back or the person hides from me and I move on either way. Sometimes though I stay and that's a heaven experience.

ENTP's - are going to look more like your dad/mom - generally not that concerned with personal appearance except when it affects their professional life. they don't have that great a dress sense. hence the jarring colour combinations. one of the smartest, possibly THE smartest type. incredibly strong work ethic. probably could do anything they set their minds to. are self-centred by nature. can be a cerebral narcissist. ENFP's - seem to have their own unique sense of style and like experimenting with their clothing style. seem to instinctively know what looks good on them. always 'on the go'. not good at practical work. can even be a ditz at times. perpetually having fun. 'pretty'. don't always have the best work ethic. social butterflies. naturally charismatic. altruistic by nature. more likely to be a somatic than a cerebral narcissist.

I don't like the basis of the argument presented inherently in this title. It is suggesting that there are smart ENFPs which can be on level with (any) ENTP. This implies that that the most intelligent ENFPs are just touching the baseline of ENTP standard. I don't believe that intelligence is related to personality type. MBTI guides behavioral patterns, but not the base level capacities of a person.

I'm still not 100% sure if I'm ENTP or ENFP. I have eneagram 4w3 and this is causing problems. I'm also very intelligent which is really screwing this up. Right now I'm leaning to 70% ENTP 30% ENFP but I DON'T understand Introverted Feeling AT ALLLLLLL! I think I understand introverted thinking, but maybe I'm wrong about what I'm experiencing. Sigh!!!! Also, I devoted my life to helping other people, that's such and ENFP thing, but I think I rationally got to that conclusion to do that. It just seems most efficient for the world to build up other people and kill toxicity. I'm also super charming and have a child like optimistic confidence and sort of a naivitey. I'm still not 100% sure AND I BLAME YOU THOR! lol : I BLAME YOU! Make better videos ahahhahahah. You're killin me here Thor! ahhahahaha. To add to all the confusion further I've been helping other people with their problems and been using MBTI to help them discover themselves more easily. It's way easier to type other people than myself cause sometimes it's just pretty straight forward and VERY obvious what their type is from talking to them. In the process I have been trying to learn about and attain EVERY SINGLE cognitive function to the end of artificially raising my IQ further and to better help other people, soooooo I'm already at the point where any MBTI or Socionics test tells I'm ENFJ cause I worked on my charm and also prioritized helping other people in my life. There is no way I'm ENFJ. My former best friend was ENFJ and I'm hella not responsible to be a J AT ALLLLL! It's just such a mess now for me hahahahahah. I screwed myself over, I might never actually find out what type I am now hahahhahah! I've been reading Jungs work since I was a teen, and I still can't freaken tell hhahahahha. Though, I don't think Jungs descriptions of the cognitive functions are actually super super accurate or maybe he just didn't communicate (yeah I know, have you read his stuff? Hella hard to digest. It boosted my teen reading abilities tons looking up all these weird words and trying to understand the esoteric sentence structures of Jung) his complete knowledge of the cognitive functions accurately enough so the information would transfer properly. Well, weird as the combination is, I am still leaning towards uhhh ENTP 4w3. Not 100%, but it just seems to fit slightly better than ENFP 4w3. Although, I know THAT mbti and Enneagram combo is far more common. For now I don't care too much. I'm completely in love with EVERY INFJ I meet, and I'm cool with being either ENTP of ENFP cause they are SOOOOOOOO attracted to me hahahhahahahha. This video is trash, you’re not backing up anything you’re saying with cognitive science or even theory. Did you even talk about cognitive functions? You’re not explaining the reasoning and deduction of either type but rather the fears and desires, which is enneagram territory. You’re generalizing ENTPs and 3s and 8s and ENFPs as 4s. This is far too constricting and not backed up whatsoever. -ENTP

I know cognitive function theory but I tend to focus on interpretation and application, go to other channels if you want maths, my goal is more coaching and empowerment and personal growth :)

      Enfp here...
Most enfp understood him. But few intp do.
Idk. Too rigid Ti possibly? Too much science yet no application?
Te wanted which is practical fact..
Ti wanted which is absolute fact.
Absolute fact? Does it really exist?

  • @prettyparadoxicalwoman8285

We are cheerleaders. Leading a group to cheer into a new idea that we logically studied in depth prior and can debate and win because we are walking libraries lol. I just took the test got enfp. From what I'm getting from my understanding of enfp we are Spocks with a don't give a shit attitude lol

ENFPs are not as mischievous as ENTPs... As ENTJ there would be various positions where ENTPs would be found by me to be the wrong ones, I would replace with ENFPs. They are good entrepreneurs too...! Specially for a position of obvious integrity of value.

The most mischievous of all 16 types, and only an xNTJ would be able to perceive their manipulation over others, and they do not fail at doing it to us and inevitably being caught instantaneously by us. For the other types, I'm sorry, but from personal experience you all seem to trust too much the snake of the personality types. While that blaming so much the INTJ and the ENTJ for being too much of a muchness just because it's what is told about us. We do not pride when we know we are so much, only those who are not confident about themselves will boost their image to fantastic levels such as INTJs and INTPs do. The same goes for ENTPs, they can have so much fantastically boosted egos to the Trumpet levels! Narcissistic and Psychopathic traits are very common for ENTPs and INTPs... Js not so much. INTJs are too much more confident than INTPs and that's the key that separates them, and INTPs pass as the most clueless of types unwilling to be helped, just helpless individuals will inevitably grow a defense mechanism of negativity so they create and invent stories about themselves to tell other people so they feel better about themselves. The INTP is incredibly different than the ENTP in contrast to ENTJs being comparable to INTJs very well. It's astounding! But I still prefer the ENTP over the INTP... at least the job gets done while the INTP will only make the plan more complicated and will procrastinate every plan to ultimately be skipped and never accomplished so no jobs gets done in the hands of an INTP and he will be much more irrational with sentiments than the ENTP. Both are as mischievous as, because of the Perceiving function preventing long term thinking. INTP not capable of being as much because of social inability, in some way they could be even more mischivous than ENTPs due to their natural inconfidence they will tend to take even more advantage of the opportunities that arises which are much more rarer than for the ENTPs, solely because of not being that much pro-active.
