  • Have people ever said that you seem like a different person every time you meet? ENTPs often have high cognitive flexibility, and switch between 4 different subtypes. These are the four subtypes:
    1... The DJ
    2... The Geek
    3... The Sweet Talker
    4... The Community Police

      I know you didn't mean anything negative, but our type is rather androgynous than masculine. I mean Ne as a first function is not a typical masculine, "narrow" function, plus the gender ratio is around 60/40.
      Also, almost all fictional entps are male (while it's 60/40) but at the same time there's way more fictional female intjs for example, when there's even less of them within their type and their type is also typically masculine as well. I just always found it weird.

  • @eranmeir5450
    @eranmeir5450 Před 7 lety +57

    I understand the logic behind your categories. Ti = istp, Fe = enfj, si = isfj. However, practically I see more ENTP's turning to INTJ's using most of their shadow functions and that happens usually when they are trapped with their Ne. As an example, if you'll take entp student that feels he has no room to explore his passion you'll begin to see a pattern of INTJ activity, isolating a lot of time alone, becoming more pragmatic than curious.
    The other common type you can see is really when ENTP's are forced to act with F which can happen a lot in a workplace environment, when that happens I agree ISFJ pattern is an accurate way to describe the behavior
    Another interesting sub type is entj, since entp's has a will for power/dominance usually they can adopt entj/estj style and that depends in my opinion on their role model. For example, if they have a teacher/friend/tv hero they can see connection with which is usually tagged as TE dominant the entp can mimic his behavior pattern in order to achieve the goals he wishes to
    Anyways that's my impression

    Man, this is spot on. Watched a few times, first time comment. The "Overwhelming Anxiety" has knocked me off a path a few times. I heard a great speech this year sometime which actually changed that, "Anxiety can be overwhelming, but what is the difference between anxiety and excitement? both have the same physical reactions so why do we enjoy the feeling of "excitement" but anxiety cripples me?" -(Unknown) This made me think about the times i've been anxious, almost all times were while my wheels were spinning, i needed to move but felt overly anxious... So i thought about how I could turn the "Anxiety" into "excitement" Mentally since the physical symptoms were the same. I wanted to share that since this video really made that pop into my mind and seems to be the ENTP's biggest road block. (BTW I have switched to a much more driven person after I was able to catch myself in this situation. GREAT Video btw! Thanks for sharing

    If there's not a NEED that I do something RIGHT NOW, you can bet your kidney that I WILL NOT DO IT.
    I also basically never do what someone else expects from me, because I see expectations as something very rude and this is my way of showing to other people that they should not be so rude to me / expect something from me. I love to give to other people, and when I do give something / do something for someone else I do it with my whole heart.
    However, when someone expects me to do something from him it's like he is taking something from me and I do not like it, when someone is taking something from me.
    I will only let him take it ( / if do something for him / her ), IF he is so annoying to a point where the pain of doing something I dont want to do is smaller than the pain I feel when he / she annoys me, again.

    Haha, so I've just changed my guess for my 2nd ex/now friend from an ENFP to an ENTP :D Kind of in the ISFJ mode, actually, as he's really preoccupied with how others perceive him and loves gossip. ENTP was my first guess anyway, since he reminded me of a junior high best friend (a girl) who was a model example of one. They have really similar hobbies (that are weird as hell so it's really significant, including fascination with history and with evil), we have great respect for one another's intellectual capacities and have tons of fun together. I'm an INFP though so I perceive them as a bit emotionally shallow. They've definitely both played a trickster role to me though and really challenged me in that way, so your other video was also spot on!
    By the way, Eric, how often do you type people based on similarities to others that you choose as a "model"? I've never really seen in recommended but it's the most reliable and intuitive way for me.

    Very validating info in the last 1/4th of the video, defo feel that. Also, yes I had to speed it up. Thank you for your time and energy and understanding that we just need to get through to the nitty gritty. Hope you're not too taken aback by the comments lol.
    ISFJ is the side at their -worst???- I came off as an INFJ and thought I was an INFJ for 5 years lol until learning a lot about everything. I also had like no family and was sheltered for a very long time so I was very repressed. Had a lot of time to develop the SHITE out of my Ti because I was so bored and I have a tendency to auto pilot all over the place and create my own specific systems. I also was trying to fix fix fix myself everywhere so heavily relied on Ti to develop my Fe and Si because I could not take care of myself well and I thought I understood how people felt but I struggle with how to respond. It is hard to just say what people -want- you to say. It has to come from my own brain plant that develops and I trust because I don't know the intentions of others so I feel like I can only truly trust that info. Irritates the heck out of some people but when they understand my process it helps. I'm rambling. In my Ti+Ne->Ni-> Te train right now (Talking about what I know so I can understand what I know and what I'm taking in... I just noticed the pathways we get from going to a preferred function to a less preferred function and idk what those are called or if it is established but I call them "function gates")
    **I've only really gotten the "sidekick" subtype from all that. No visuals to help me separate the info into the 4 types for me to remember but J like the comparisons to ENFJ and ISTP, ISFJ, INTJ ect. Those things helped me put it into context.

    I'm trying to figure out if this guy I met recently is an ENTP. He texted me brief messages, but kept the connection for over a month. I felt there wasn't anything there so I didn't out any effort, and then he asked me out on a date. He confirmed the date, suggested the location, but realized when he got to the restaurant that the place was packed. We were out on a long wait list and I suggested that we go to the park and get takeout food. He really wanted the restaurant to work out but finally agreed to eat fast food. During the conversation it quickly became about politics and his woes on crazy liberals in the US. He is an artist who wants to express his philosophy through his art. He was touchy, but not to the point where I became comfortable. He did not seem too how much interest in me as a person, and I felt he sort of took over the conversation with his ideas. I enjoyed listening to him, but it didn't seem like a date. I don't know if he's interested in me, but at the end of the date he asked me if we could get together again for a meal at his place.

    Finding efficient ways to do things is a bit of an obsession for me. I catch myself worrying about the proper ordering of activities, when all that really matters is that I stop dithering and get to work. Besides which many things cannot be done efficiently--writing, for instance. You can't get hung up on a first draft. It's better if you accept the fact, from the beginning, that you'll have to do a bunch of drafts, and the first ones will probably be pretty awful. "Getting your ducks in a row" is generally just an excuse for procrastination.

    You're confusing a lot of other elements with ENTP. For one, the most optimal, energy-conserving solution to a problem is a lot more related to Sensation with Thinking than Intuition with Thinking. The need for positive approval is also rather different to a pursuit of status or even respect, which are more Fi and Se oriented.
    It also doesn't help that you are trying to pass off Bill Gates and Will Smith as ENTPs. Where does Gates have Si or Ti in his stack? How is Will Smith Ne-Ti, rather than a Feeling and Sensory type? Try contrasting real ENTPs like Albert Einstein and Leonardo Da Vinci with the likes of Conan O'Brien and Boris Johnson.

    • @ErikThor
      @ErikThor  Před 7 lety +3

      You need to settle that it's not necessarily confusion when the model is in itself different. Socionics has some pretty unusual claims on type and cognitive preferences. It'd be cool to discuss the differences rather than to just juggle perspectives. :)

    • @JackAaron
      @JackAaron Před 7 lety +1

      Not trying to push Socionics here, but was deliberately sticking to MBTI. If you read ISTP profiles, they will emphasise that point about energy-conserving solutions. Furthermore, there is nothing in an MBTI profile for an ENTP or even in their cognitive functions that suggests they rely on people's respect.

    • @ErikThor
      @ErikThor  Před 7 lety +4

      Oh, okay! Well, I actually agree with you a little, coulda phrased it better in the video. NTs are not so much about simplicity in systems: what I mean with energy efficient is optimality. First, ENTPs have a pragmatic EXTX temperament. Further, TP is about finding optimality in things. What way to screw the light bulb gets the most light out? The solution to save energy can be extremely complex and intricate. Also agree with Conan O'Brien as an ENTP, not Einstein or Da Vinci though (Not gonna type a person who has been dead for 500 years. :P)

      Normal tests tend to set ENTP people as INTPs, because ENTPs are mostly "Ambiverts" and not just "Extroverts".
      Ex: they will enjoy both, reading a book, exploring a project at home or going out with friends.
      INTPs are trully introverts, and sometimes (not always though) social awkward.

    Someone wanting others to be able to validate and rely on him, wanting to be in a position of power and always looking for the most efficient way to do something? What you described sounds more like ESTJ. lol
    As an ENTP I can say that my way of doing things is usually the least efficient one, since I always prefer to try new ways to do things, rather than the way everyone else does it. I don't care about getting validation for my work at all.
    I would prefer to have as little responsibility as possible because it often happens that I randomly change plans for the day because I don't like to plan ahead, so I always hope people can manage to do shit on their own without me, because I'd hate to leave a big gap in the cycle of whatever is happening over there where I am not at that moment. For example imagine I'm the only one in an office who can change the ink of the printer. What if it needs to be changed and I'm not around? I'd rather teach everyone how to do it themselves so they can print and be happy even when I'm not there.
