What about acne dark scares on back ? Can everyone like this so they can see this
Microneedling
Try Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Body spot exfoliant (or similar). It has worked wonders on my bacne scars having used it for 1-2 months after showering.
I bring some of my face products onto my shoulders and upper back (where I typically get the scarring). So like my vitamin c, ferulic acid, AHAs etc. Basically start adding some of the hyperpigmentation stuff you use on your face to your back! This has actually helps me a lot. I do it on my chest and some of my freckles from sun damage have gone away too
@@jordansjoysLove the Advice thanks 😊
Bump
Things that helped me resolve back acne. Benzoyl peroxide cleanser in shower, salicylic acid spray (Paula’s choice) after shower, cerave salicylic acid lotion, shower as soon as you finish working out, wash bras after one use, frequently wash your clothing especially gym clothes, wash your body after you wash out your conditioner, and use the Lysol laundry disinfectant when doing laundry (use as pre wash).
How long have you been using these products? Do you still break out?
Differin also has a spray that’s available at the drugstore and is probably cheaper
What I hate the most about my body acne - is that what works on my face doesn't work on my back and shoulders. And what works on my back and shoulders (it's acid) doesn't work on my chest! So I got like 3 different types of acne - on my face (retinol does the job for it), back and shoulders (acid) and chest (nothing helped so far).
Why not use Bezoyl peroxide soap.
I perosally use 2-5% perobar soap that i can get in the pharmacy easily
Me too :(((
Thank you for the printed routines!! They are so helpful and are visually good reminders. Y'all are so entertaining💫
As a Derm PA I LOVE THIS. I down loaded the list so I can adopt it for our practice. The more tools we give our patients the better. Thanks again for the great tips. ❤😊
Like Dr. Sha I’ve also struggled with back acne my whole life and I’ve learned what’s worked for me so whoever wants to listen LISTEN UP. Panoxyl or the CeraVe salicylic acid face wash is great to use after your regular soap app. and pls leave it on for 1-2 minutes. Then after the shower, use the salicylic sprays (non-fragranced and no witch hazel) if your acne is flared up. Mine isn’t right now so I use the ordinary glycolic acid in a spray bottle and that’s taken care of A LOT of acne scars and bumps and it’s made my whole body smooth. And most importantly hydrating your body after the spray with a non fragranced body lotion like Neutrogena hydro boost lotion or the vanicream lotion. For someone who is oily and acne prone, these two lotions have never broken me out and like your skin, hair, nails hydration is key to heal and soothe the body. So after using these products the lotion calms your skin and doesnt irritate it because of dryness or the products you’re using. I hope this helps for anybody who struggles with body acne! I wish I would’ve known these tips years ago lol (and p.s always wash your body after you wash your hair) ❤
Did you use exfoliating gloves 🧤?
Just gonna throw out that, for me, some of my back "acne" was actually folliculitis, which responds much better to soap containing zinc pyrithione. Definitely a derm can help you sort out exactly what's going on, but if acne products aren't helping your back, you may not have true acne. Luckily the lifestyle stuff pretty much helps with all of it!
I spray salicylic acid on my son's back after using the Ordinary's retinol oil. He also uses a benzoyl peroxide wash. His skin is super hearty, and it never seems to get irritated! I wear gloves so the retinol oil doesn't get all over my hands. It's working really well!
I admire how you acknowledge how rare it is for a "cure" in medicine. how exceptional and uncommon it is. SO TRUE! love your videos.
I missed you guys!! Thanks for the video!
Great summary. In my day, people did not talk about this, you were almost on your own. Glad to see at least some things have gotten better. Thank you both
If ur putting leave on benzoyl peroxide gel on ur back PLEASE do not wear a shirt you care about 😭😭😭
Thank you
10 years ago I discovered that fabric softener in my laundry was a huge cause of back acne. Fixing that and using Phisoderm salicylic acid body wash fixed mine.
As someone who suffer from body acne, I treat it like I do my face. Wash with medicated cleanser, alternate actives like retinol, aha/bha then moisturizer.
00:39 Find yourself someone that looks at you the way Dr. Maxfield looks at Dr. Shah 😍
Hair growth comment for Dr. Shah:
I added rosemary oil to my shampoo for hair growth, have noticed some slight thinning lately.
After a few weeks I started getting annoyed because I thought I kept getting dirt near my hairline and turns out they are NEW LITTLE HAIRS GROWING!
Amazing. Thanks for the tip!
Which one do you use?
@@Michellelipstick Aura Cacia Rosemary Essential Oil. It’s also important to put it on your scalp with a carrier oil before you shower, in my opinion! I’m more oily so sometimes I don’t even use the carrier oil, but I don’t suggest that for everyone. That could irritate some people’s scalp and make it worse
Coconut oil is fine, I’ve heard grape seed oil is also good, pumpkin seed oil. I want to try grape seed because I’ve heard it’s more dry
I noticed that once I completely stopped eating Chipotle and Oreos, my back problems stopped. Especially the Chipotle!!! I read that Chipotle cooks all their food with Soy Oil, which triggers cystic acne.
I instantly made that connection when I stopped eating those particular foods because once I started eating them again, the acne came back.
Everyone’s body is different, but in my mind, this is what was causing the issue. It’s been going on 4 years since I removed those from my diet and I haven’t had a breakout on my back since. If you love Chipotle, I highly encourage you to take a break from it to see how your body reacts.
Processed, fried and spicy food in general is very triggering. If you eat lots of fish and green vegetables like spinach, bokchoi, cabbage etc it will help. Great that it works for you.
Milk and dairy were the culprit for my face and neck acne. Although I really love milk and it's products, I prefer having clear skin.
For me, hair conditioner and some showering gels with pore-clogging ingredients were the biggest problem. I struggled with back acne for years and just by making sure these ingredients don't touch my skin it has improved so much. Salicylic acid also helped a lot.
Can u please specify what ingredients you’re avoiding?
Yes, what ingredients did you find removing from products, helped?
Biggest difference for me was showering in a specific order. Shampoo, conditioner, face wash, body wash. The conditioner residue from doing conditioner last before is what gave me bacne
I just want to say, thank you so so much. I am unbelievably insecure about my back and rarely ever show it. This video has helped in more ways you can imagine.
I did cupping for my back about 3mths ago....improved a lot and started using Neutrogena Grapefruit Clear salicylic Bodywash and apply Aveeno daily moisturizer to prevent it from returning....so far still works
Perfect summary! Thank you.
Very informative as always 👏
Absolutely brilliant thank you from the UK.
I know this is not related to the topic but the way Dr. Maxfield look at Dr. Shah in most of their videos is just iconic. ❤❤❤
That's some reality check here.. Kudos docs!
The way he looking at him was really❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have seen good results with salicylic acid soap, but there were still some reddish marks left by the spots. About 90% of the marks have disappeared since I started using kojic acid soap after the salicylic acid soap.
Safeguard soap, silk bristled brush and sun bathing my back for 10 min daily worked for me
When I was pregnant I got HORRIBLE acne on my thighs of all places. Literally no reason what so ever, but it was awful. Wearing pants hurt. Gave birth, and it went away!
Thank you, I’m so glad to hear I’m actually doing all the right things atm! As an added “bonus”, I’ll be eating doxycycline for 2 months as an anti-malarial while I travel, had no idea it could help with my skin too! Almost excited to start the meds now 😂
Did you see a difference
@@miatazithis is a very late reply but yes! The doxycycline does make your skin a bit more sensitive to sun but as I was wearing high spf all the time anyway it didn’t matter much. My skin wasn’t breaking out even with constant sweating and not so great skincare.
Maybe a weird topic but can you make a video on androgenic acne and how to prevent and get rid of it. Watch you thoroughly and would love for you guys to cover the topic
Dial soap and bodywash worked for me! I have been prescribed sulfur products and panoxyl etc w/ no results. I looked at my dermatologist funny when he suggested dial. I hadn't used dial since I was living w/ my parents.
Wish this existed when I was a teen. My back was horrendous. Still some great tips for current issues. ❤
Did your acne leave by it self?
I think many people suffer from back acne and are not likely to share their experiences until they get older. I battled with this until I just stopped caring and only time made it go away (except the deep physical and early psychological scars). My dad never would have taken me to see a dermatologist or even a GP to have it treated, which is unfortunate because it really inhibited me when I was younger. Had I know about Accutane, the risks would have been worth it.
you did the right thing, tane is not worth it. trust me. i'd trade places in a heart beat
@@Zombie101why not
my dad asked me. 'what the hell happned to your back?/ that's about it.
Thank you so much, Doctor's❤🎉 I will try the spray on my husband's back.😊
Thanks for bringing me back to my adolescence, guys. That orange Neutrogena bottle is the stuff of nightmares! (But seriously, this vid is super informative! 😉)
Yea, I do have that problem of having dry deep ones that my daughter use to get the stuff out but it kept filling in but since she no longer lives with me they just become numb spots that I cannot see what they look like. Thank for providing some items that I might can use to get the top layer skin to peel off and maybe the stuff can be uncovered.
please do a video on facial seborrheic dermatitis !
Great video!🥰
I currently can not afford to see a dermatologist. I don't think some people are aware that we're given 2 free dermatologist.
For ladies on contraception choose a combination pill. This will take a few months to clear acne
Paula’s choice BHA cream works for me!
Please compare tretinoin vs tezarotin.. and which is better in which areas & for lifetime use ❤
Thank you guys so very much for this video and I was very scared cause I didn't know what to do and after watching your video it help me come down and thank you again ....
Tea tree body wash is great for mild back acne!
After trying and failing many topicals over a year, isotretinoin CHANGED THE GAME.
Hi Doctor Shah,
We met in the US open gift shop on the men's singles semi finals day. Frankly, I was a bit shocked and surprised in a good way to see you and I couldn't converse properly 😂
Thanks for the selfie and of course all the tips on the channel

Great meeting you!
I've been on low-dose Accutane (Zenatane) for almost 10 years now. Just 1 x40mg capsule once a week after an initial full strength course of treatment. It's been amazing at preventing further breakouts and controlling oil production without side effects. Highly recommend it if your doctor is on board with it. One word of caution, major interaction between Accutane and doxycycline, definitely don't take both!
doesnt that kill the oil glands? or permanently shrink them? i took 20mg daily x4 months... huge regret, my skin seems to have changed permanently, its more fragile and sensitive than pre-tane. I even developed scalp folliculitis when i came off the drug. i'd personally avoid at all costs.
Wash and condition your hair BEFORE washing your body that way you can remove any conditioner left over very big help
My arm Keratosis got worse when I started Venlafaxine. It also caused weight gain and spots over my stomach. It's frustrating.
I HAVE A QUESTION! So I use PanOxyl Maximum Strength Antimicrobial Acne Foaming Wash and salicylic acid 2% from the Ordinary and a lotion that contains victim C. How should I use these products for the best results! Btw I love the videos!
Neutrogena wash or mask is also great if you use the mask option.
In high school, I tried everything you mentioned. Accutane finally changed my life.
Will this routine help with the acne scars left on back and upper arm as well?
I used this little towel looking thing that exfoliates the back when you scrub it then I used it to scrub my whole body with a acne soap bar then put the cream on afterwards it helped about 75%
BIOTRADE ACNE OUT ACTIVE LOTION IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS with rose damascena in it
Do an episode on the phenol chemical peel
Im an acne specialist and Esthetician and I personally find that L-mandelic face and body wash works SO WELL for face and back acne! Highly recommend using this product as the LAST THING YOU USE during a shower :) The mandelic is Brightening for scars while also being anti fungal, anti microbial, and anti bacterial with anti inflammatory properties! I recommend it to all my clients with chest and back acne :)
Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic work wonders too but I saw alot of people in comments complaining about scarring as well and the Mandelic helps with brightening :)
I’ve found what’s most difficult is that the cleansers and body acne treatments tend to dry out the skin on my chest and back. Trying to find moisturizing products that help maintain my skin barrier has been a struggle! Everything I’ve tried seems to be either not moisturizing enough OR too heavy and I end up with more pustules/clogs. I think what’s tricky about body acne is that the areas are typically covered by clothing, unlike the face, so it has its own challenges 😵💫
I've been using Versed's Retinol body lotion and it's amazing! Not greasy, absorbs nicely, soft skin and I feel like it helps with acne after I've used an acne body spray. I just ran out of my Versed Retinol body lotion actually and just got Medix 5.5 Retinol body lotion to try and it is also very moisturizing and hasn't caused breakouts but I don't love the fragrance.
@@joshh347 Thank you!! I will definitely check it out 🙏🏻
I just bought the La Roche-Posay Effaclar H Iso-Biome Cleansing Cream (what a name) which sounds like it could help you too! I haven’t used it long enough to give a full review :)
Skin type: oily sensitive acne prone
Skin concern: dark spots, scars due to close comedones, some acnes..
May you please try to suggest some good toner/essence/serum to fade away those dark spots?
Weather:Humid here in India
I haven't watched it all yet, but wanted to mention certain laundry detergents make me instantly break out on my back, arms and chest. Try switching to fragrance free one, or now we use just pure vinegar as our detergent.
Hi! I love this channel! Please please do a review on anti grey hair serum ingredients effectiveness 🙏🏼 I’m having my first grey hair and I wonder if they actually works ❤
Your haircut suits you, Dr. Maxfield! You look younger ❤
Hello Doctors, is this applicable for butt acne as well?
I did Accutane. It cured the cystic acne that I would get everywhere. I've only had one cystic zit since that was durring a particularly bad bout of hormonal acne, but it was nowhere near the level of before and was gone in a few days. Even if not a 100% cure all, I dont regret any of it.
It also oddly enough helped to diagnose the eczema on my chin and legs.
I suffered from acne for 20 years (spent untold amounts of money on different treatments), until a dermatologist in Switzerland prescribed me Tretinac (vitamin A). I will probably have to take it my whole life, but I am down to 5 mg a day, with perfect skin (will try going lower), and dry skin is almost a non issue. And I pause the treatment periodically (especially arround summer vacation).
Unrelated question… Dr. Shah and Dr. Maxfield, should I be putting skincare on my eyelids as well?? I’ve heard both yes and no.
I've wondered about the SA sprays - I just started using the Cerave SA lotion as a moisturizer after showering, but can an SA spray as mentioned in the video be used in place of an SA moisturizer? I'm asking because a spray is obviously much easier than a lotion to apply to one's back.
@Doctorly thanks for the advice . Can I use Benzac on my back acne ?
Hi I suggest the dr wong sulfur soap. its anti bacterial for acne problems
What are your thoughts on the Stridex or Noxzema anti-blemish pads?
Would be nice if you made a video about pityriasis versicolor
Differen BP Cleanser or the Cleansers the Doctors Recommended could help also.
Unrelated to acne - treating broken capillaries with laser - I listened to one dermatologist saying that laser shrinks them and then you have to go back 2-3 times a year. I thought if the procedure coagulates them, why do you have to keep going back? Do you need to go back for the same ones you treated-like the same ones come back? I have ones that occurred from micro abrasion on my nose, so I’m not looking to do my whole face, just those…but the dermatologist I went to said, I need to do my whole face or it will look too white in that one area. I don’t want to necessarily do my whole face, and don’t want to have to keep going back.
Derma Harmony Zinc Bar or Shampoo Bar and Differen Gel and Trentinon Micro .08% May help. Along with Smartskin Hypocloric Acid Spray may also help.
Ok Dr’s, fall is here!!! I'm 61 so any recommendations for skin care???
Nice one there
Hi, i heard you can't use retinol while breastfeeding. Are you ablw to suggest an alternative please.
Would it also work for the chest area too?
Sharing this with my teen son, Thanks! Could u do a video on Tinea Versa for my college son (it's on his torso, arms and some spots on cheek).
Also how do you treat a cyst - like oil nodule under the skin? I have a couple of them that won’t ever go away.
Wish we could get benzoyl peroxide products easily in Ireland, it has to be prescribed by a doctor
Can you use salycilic spray to prevent ingrown hair post shaving?
I tried a salicylic acid wash on my face and back and it made both break out 10x worse. I have sensitive skin so I'll chalk it up to that, but that's not a one size fits all product😭
Does accutane also work for hormonal acne?
What about sulphur soaps with sayclic acid, are they also effective?
Can the next video be about proactive? I used it as an adolescence, years later after kids my acne returned and it worked. Why is proactive now vilified ?
What about the scarring? Are there any laser or chemical treatments we can do to get rid of the scarring?
Ive had cystic ance since I was 11, I'm 25 and still have this crap. I've done everything, changed what i drink, more water, and no dairy products. I use body wash with no artificial dyes and same with cleaning powder/liquid in the washing machine. I'm in a state of mind that isn't good for me, it just won't go away.
Asslam o Alikum bro I like your videos n info about skin care. Please bro talk about chickenpox scars's treatment n home remedies .
Docs can I do a 0.25% tret on a backbuddy to apply on far-reaching areas?
It’s crazy, I’m on doxycycline because I had a post operative infection in my leg after I broke it. Had no idea that it was also used to treat back acne. I feel like I’ve got a few more spots since being on it?
I use Cerave SA Body Wash for Rough & Bumpy Skin, leave it on for about 5 mins (don't just put it on then immediately rinse off), then after showering I moisturize that area with Cerave Daily Moisturizing Lotion. (I might eventually look into trying their SA body lotion too.) Showering soon after sweating and washing sports bras after one use, as well as washing regular bras (after ~3 wears but more often if you sweat in it) make a huge difference. Also don't wear the same top to bed too many days in a row. I still get back acne, but I've found the pimples don't last nearly as long as they used to. They might flare up quickly but then be on their way a day or two later...but now I still gotta find a way to deal with the scarring.
edit: I've also seen a couple of dermatologists say sulfur soap is good for body acne too.
What about back acne that leads to keloids? Are there cures or prevention for it?
Glycolic acid works as well? or for back acne is a waste of money?
is there any relation between body acne and high dht ?
What should type of lotion should I use for my back?
Would you recomend tea tree oil? My son has alot of blackeads on his back and face
Are these also safe on the rump? My fella has a tough time with bum acne.
