Juan (in depth) and Flossy Carter (causal) are the only ones that praise this phone and accentuate what great value it is. Other reviewers are just mindlessly bashing it... such a shame.
It's the easy thing to do. Declare a "winner" and then you don't really need to techie any other phones. You can just compare therm to your "winner" phone.
J Williams has about three videos (that I'm aware of) praising the LG G8. I love Flossy but Williams' reviews gave me the push I needed to buy the phone. I love it to death!!! And, I haven't even touched the surface of many of its great features.

I was recommended your G8 review after suffering thru MKBHDs horribly biased review. Guy literally only praises Apple and Samsung. Major sellout.

He did a horrible video. The V30 was a great phone and he didn't review it. The g8 is a serious upgrade with the oled screen, battery bump, camera and everything except design looks and he said "it's fine" lol I honestly think he has something against LG. Like seriously cause he downgrades them too much when they're not at all that bad, actually they're pretty damn good phones that are sadly not popular.

VERY solid offering from LG this year.
Great smartphone no doubt. It's weird reviewers make good things they praise about other phones sound trivial for the G8 but go off with OPTIONAL features like hand ID. It's optional and at least the tech is actually very impressive in theory and nerd perspective. Especially the ToF sensor. That's pretty high end stuff. Btw, is no one going to talk about DTS over Bluetooth sound? I mean LG just demolishes everyone in Bluetooth sound with this lol
OK, old school story. Three years ago I plopped down the Samsung S7 Edge at my carrier's store. I went on about how I had been comparing it with LG's V20 for a month and finally made the decision. She looked at me and said in no uncertain terms LG was the better overall phone - and after a 10 minute verbal dissertation, convinced me to buy the V20 instead (it was half-price too!). Well, last month I just popped in a new battery (remember that?)and on we go for 2019. I'll upgrade when 5G hits. And it'll be an LG.
As one lg diehard to another I am really impressed by lg nightmode and back camera in portrait mode, it's easily beats s10 in this categories.
LG auto and HDR processing got a NICE shot in the arm.
@@SomeGadgetGuy Wait, is the image processing considered so good that we're praising it? Like, a direct competitor to the S10 maybe? I had the G7 and the processing was terrible: overexposed images, aggressive noise reduction and highly visible color banding made most of my pictures unusable. Also, the depth maps were inaccurate. How did that improve on the G8 portrait mode? Compared to the G7 camera, is there a night and day difference and is there now minimized noise reduction?

Im glad someone is doing justice for the G8! Unlike someone whose name starts with 'M'... 😒 They camera looks promising and can even compete with the S10 it seems. Please do a test on the battery life and compare it with the S10e Juan!

I was having trouble choosing between the next phone I was gonna get. V35, V50 or G8S 😁 Since Juan and Unbox Therapy said the Wide angle lens was more practical than the Zoom lens, I made my choice!
What do you think about the Xperia 1's RAW noise reduction and it using a smaller 1/2,6 sensor?

Hey just wanted to let you know something. Older lg and sony phones are aquite a big hit in my country. It would be awesome if you could make an updated videos on older lg phones like lg v30 etc.

I wish more phones were made like the V10. That thing is a tank. The headphone jack can still outperform anything out aside from a QuadDAC LG, and it had real manual video controls (at an insane bitrate) before anyone else. Sigh... Stainless steel rails...
Hearing you mention the whole removal of the switching camera mid video option just reminded me of the reason I'm not into companies like Samsung anymore. I would get their phone for specific features and then on the next phone they remove it. If they removed manual controls like you said I'm not getting another
You can’t change lenses during video? :O I’m still on my V20 and use this EVERY TIME I’m shooting, has the V50 remedied this yet?
We just got an update to enable steady record at 60fps, and we can switch lenses in auto now at UHD 30fps.

I think g8 has 1/2.55 inch sensor and yeah i think the video recording where you can switch between 2 lenses is so useful just like on my g6 and i dont know why they removed that feature but i hope there will be an update to bring back that feature

Hi! This phone has FAT32 format as Samsung phones? It is annoying Samsung is using this format, so the video limit is 4 GB, and then another video is being shot automatically when 4GB is exceeded.

Now you just set LG to 1080p at 240 fps. You lose audio controls and focus peaking, but you keep manual controls for shutter, iso, and white balance. At 240 fps. In HD.

I have the choice between 3 sprint unlocked lg g8 .. lg v50 .. s10 plus.. all sprint unlocked but v50 5g only works with sprint even though it is unlocked overall which is the best?

I wish the US Markets included the Telephoto camera, because seeing the digital zoom on the S10e look not very good, I was afraid for the G8 about this and it really makes it a bummer for me and makes me want to go for an S10 for the Telephoto lens
That's why I keep a Sony HX90V in my pocket all the time, too! Smaller than the phone (length and width - the phone is obviously going to be way flatter) with 30x optical zoom. I can see the seams of a baseball at the plate when I'm sitting in the outfield! And with NFC or wifi transfer, it's just a quick step (granted, it IS one extra step...) to share or post.

I thing LG is decided to not sell the G and V series in Brazil.
And just when I thought I was going to have to go to Huawei to get what I wanted. Not at all interested in the G8 but if the V50 aka V40 with larger battery comes to T-Mobile with the addition of a built in night mode, I can retire my V30. Very nice.
Here's to hoping! I just need the V50 to be a bigger version of this phone. That's it. I'll be happy.

Anymore I think MOST people should wait out at least the first month, and see how the phone ages. Manufacturers are trying to hype up launch week with FOMO. I refuse to jump on "first day" software for my in depth coverage anymore.

I like this short review for the G8's camera. It wasn't just shit-on-LG-because-they-didnt-do-anything-unique review. He actually gave positive comments on the phones strengths. TBH, I like this phone's clean design compares to Samsung's. The curved screen is getting annoying. I miss having a good flat display.

Of course it can. In photos and video. That's a no brainer. IT WOULD BE SILLY TO NOT INCLUDE MANUAL CONTROLS FOR THE WIDE CAMERA IN A PREMIUM EXPENSIVE PHONE... cough cough... Whew... That one got away from me...
I have the g7 on T-mobile and my phone cost 650 and just found out the g8 is like 620 right now. That has me kind of salty. I'm getting the g8 soon can't wait. The g7 is a good phone but g8 is definitely better.
I'm seriously considering to buy this phone (upgrade from my G4). I just want to know how the battery stacks up since it doesn't have removable battery. That's the only think stopping me from buying this phone.

My last phone was an LG, but this time around I went with Samsung BECAUSE of the Pro video mode. And then they removed it in a software update.

I can tell who really was digging deep and using those features. That was a frustrating cut, made even more frustrating by the people who just shrugged it off.

Ive had my LG G8thinQ since April 30th 2019...Ive had many friends, family, and being self employed...Ive lost a lot of calls...So many people tell me when they call me...it does not ring on their end..Talking to Sprint Support I was told they see on their computer where I've had a lot of dropped calls. Most important is my customers not getting through to me...and I have lost a lot of business...The area manager refused to switch me to the same phone even though I reported these issues nefore the 15 days of having this phone...Well within my 30 day warranty...Not a smart idea. .I really think my phone has a clitch...and not working properly. I have talked with people all over this planet about these issues...I was on the phone 3 evening ago...for one hour and 57 minutes...talked with 8 different people..and not getting any results to have this issue fixed....also was suprised to see some photos show up im my gallery...not sure how I found them...have looked several times to try and find them again...but were pictures dated in 2016....hummmmm When I got the phone. "New"...I don"t understand seeing pictures from 2016...Also..front and back has a glass covering..back has just enough curvature..if it's not on a completely flat surface...it will slide onto the floor...poor design..who would design a phone with glass housing? I've been with Sprint for 17 years...and through all the years put together...I've never had the problems I've had with this one...It might be a great phone " if" they ever get some issues fixed...Got this phone April 30th 2019...It's August 5th 2019...still having same issues....I know things can have a glitch as with cars some..but they do let owners of the car to come in to the dealership and repair the problem.
Anyone know how to use dual camera mode?
Two things this LG camera can't do. These might be small issues but they still annoy the hell out of me! 1: It doesn't shut off the camera shutter sound, you have to physically turn down the sound with the side buttons. 2: You can't zoom in with the front camera. I need this to zoom into my face if I have something in my eye or if I just want to trim my beard. I had to download another camera app to be able to do this. aaarrrggghhh
While majority of people including their mothers go crazy over great auto modes on mobile phones for the iPhones, Pixels and Galaxies.
I kind of feel I am the outlier, I still prefer my Manual mode + RAW support capture to better get the images I want, even if I take a few shots to get the best shot.
Me too. But I am happy to see LG auto modes which are pretty good.

I've done that. I'd still rather have a simpler sliding panel layout, and dedicate that "menu" space for camera controls and meters.
You think LG is gonna bring the second screen the v50 have from korea to America? also how do you feel about lgs ai devices specifically there version of the Amazon echo and not that freaking adorable home robot named cloi cloi might be it's own thing

Sort of? The G8S has the zoom camera, but in some regions it has the lower res screen. I honestly don't have all the different variants and regional releases memorized...
Manual mode photo for lg g8 or s10, which is better, and why?
Hands down LG. They actually have a manual mode for video, and a night mode for stills. I'll take the LG camera EVERY day over this gen of samsung until sammy can bring those features back.

In one aspect yes. Cameras are more than just one feature, but the P10 is still a great shooter for stills.
I can switch between wide and normal lens on my V30

I used gcam on older LG's, but I honestly dont think I'll need it here.
I used in lg v30+ .and the difference is day and night for photos ..and for videos stock camera app is better..BTW i agree wih you that its not in case for lg g8
Happily, the auto mode has gotten a bit better, and I like Night View better than Night Sight. LG might have FINALLY made a good all rounder.
