Hello everyone. This is some footage from a more recent trip I took to West Sacramento. My dad and I tried fishing the Sacramento River for the first time. We tried on the shore, as a friend of mine informed me that bank fishing wasn't too bad there. We were at the the Barge Canal, Deep Water Channel, to try to catch anything that bit. It was a fun trip, and the outcome was as I expected for a first timer fishing in a new area. Enjoy!
Look on google maps past that bend, as the other commenter said. You'll see many trails and parking areas. Just park and take one of them into the DWC. One of the popular areas is behind the amazon warehouse and off Marshall rd.

it was the mudsucker that was biting, they hang out in between rocks. they will bite but hooking them is hard because they are tiny! u need to basically just gently lift it up and fling it onto land they will always come off
That is interesting to know. I did not realize there were mudsuckers that lived along the Sacramento River. Thanks for the tip on how to catch mudsuckers. I will remember that if I ever go back up to the Sacramento River to fish again. Also thanks for leaving a comment.
That spot, you need to walk way out to the left, passes the bridge before you can start catching fish, where the channel bends, better fish activity... October usually have Stripers, November to December can be good for Sturgeon if you wanna make that mile walk...lol
Thanks for providing very useful information on how to fish around the Barge Canal area. That's good to know that pass the bridge, where the channel bends has a better chance of catching fish. That is good to know the striper and sturgeon seasons in the Sac River. Thanks again for leaving a comment and for the local fishing tips. If I ever go up to fish around the Barge Canal, I'll try out what you suggested.
@@Yeeflex I've only fished the DWC on my yak and i hardly ever fish the area you were at because it gets overfished. everytime I launch theres always people fishing there. Like vaajrambo says, walk to the left a ways and you'll have much better luck with bass, bluedills and stripers.
Park marshal road by the edge and fish there. It’s deeper there. Where you guys started is only like 16 foot. Mainly for bass and pan fish. Like everyone said at the very left after the curve, there’s lots of catfish and stripers. Even sturgeon and bass. Caught couple 20-24 inch stripers. But I wouldn’t drive far for this place tho 😂. I live close to this spot and fish it all the time but 4/10 times will catch keeper. Delta ftw.
Thank you for the advice. It was pretty shallow where we were, so knowing a deeper spot is good to know. I've been seeing in the comments here, that after the curve has good fishing. 20-24inch stripers are good sized stripers. It is a far drive, since I don't live close to this area. Need to fish down by the ships more it gets deeper as soon as you go under the bridge have got several large striped bass on sardines or mud suckers
That’s some good information. I saw the ship area while driving around, but did not know how deep it got there. Thanks for sharing your fishing experience and information on fishing this area. I’ll definitely try and use it if I go back to fish up in Sacramento on day.
