  • Virgin Orbit 1st UK Launch! Get to know Cosmic Girl and Launcher One!
Virgin Orbit's Cosmic Girl carrier plane deployed the "Start Me Up" mission's LauncherOne rocket for an air launch on Jan. 9, 2022. The rocket was deployed about an hour after the plane lifted off from Spaceport Cornwall in the UK.
The rocket suffered an anomaly during the flight and failed to deliver its payloads to orbit, according to Chris Relf, Virgin Orbit director of systems engineering and verification. "Attempts to launch the first satellites into orbit from British soil ended in a “painful” failure at the final hurdle", said Mr. Relf. A crowd of more than 2,000 spectators were present in Cornwall to watch Cosmic Girl, the adapted Boeing 747 jet, take-off at Newquay spaceport in southwest England. The Cornish weather co-operated, but the rocket struggled to reach the right altitude and speed to reach orbit. Virgin Orbit still have not said anything about the incident. Investigations are on the way a spokes person for Virgin later said.

    PAYLOAD DETAILS ....................................................................................................
    PROMETHEUS 2
Prometheus 2 are two 6U CubeSat which will provide a test platform for monitoring radio signals including GPS and sophisticated imaging, paving the way for a more collaborative and connected space communication system with AirBus Defence and Space. Prometheus-2 is a collaboration between the UK Ministry of Defence and International partners, including the US National Reconnaissance Office (NRO).
    IOD-AMBER (IOD 3)
The AMBER payload will be able to locate and track vessels worldwide by picking up their RF emissions using the L-Band Sat Phone detection sensor package derived from Horizon Technologies existing FlyingFish system, combined with X and S-Band sensors and an AIS receiver to detect, geolocate, and correlate these signals against the presence of AIS beacons. IOD-AMBER or IOD 3 is a British 6U-CubSat carrying an experimental payload for Horizon Technologies.
    FORGE-STAR-O
ForgeStar-0 a small satellite from Space Forge will be the first satellite developed in Wales and will aim to further develop the technologies and techniques for dedicated manufacturing in space, along with reliable return testing, the satellite will enable the study of microgravity, vacuum and temperature, to create products impossible to manufacture on Earth.
    CIRCE
CIRCE (Coordinated Ionospheric Reconstruction CubSat Experiment)
is part of a joint mission between the U.K.'s Defense Science and Technology Laboratory and the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL)
    DOVER
Developed by RHEA Group in the UK, it is the company's first satellite in it's 30-year history. The satellite is being co-funded through the European Space Agency's (ESA) Navigation Program (NAVISP) and built by Open Cosmos of the UK. DOVER is a SmallSat that was created as a pathfinder for resilient global navigation satellite system.
    AMAN
Oman's first orbital mission, it is a single Earth observation satellite meant to demonstrate the future feasibility of a larger constellation and was developed after a memorandum of understanding among the Sultanate of Oman, Polish Small Satellite manufacture and operator SatRev, Poland-originated AI data analytics specialists TUATARA, and Oman-based merging technology innovator ETCO. The agreement includes additional planned small satellites, including this, the first in Oman's history.
    STORK-6
Stork-6 is the next installment of Polish Small Satellite manufacture and operator SatRev's STORK constellation. Virgin Orbit previously launched two spacecraft in this constellation on a pervious launch and looks forward to continuing to launch SatRev's STORK spacecraft in the future.

Thank you so much Felipe! I'm on the highway racing to catch tonight's launch of OneWeb 16 for ya! 😁
I'm cutting it extremely close though! Haha! My computer delayed me giving me problems all day. I'm really glad you liked it! I'll hear from you on the next one buddy. 👍🏼

It's so unfortunate for the UK, they were all cheering so much for success, but the mission was not. LauncherOne failed to reach orbital velocity. Virgin Orbit shareholders are feeling the punch. Much work needs to be done. I wish them luck. Big hill to climb now. 😬
