Drinker's Chasers - Warner Mass Cancellations, Batgirl and Ezra Miller
Vložit

- Warner Discovery has been absolutely culling their lineup of projects over the past week or so, in a bid to cut costs and return the company to profitability. But what does this mean for their films that are soon to be released? What is to be done with Ezra Miller's Flash? Will Black Adam be the saviour of the franchise? Can ANYTHING save DC on film at this point?

Hollyweird got so woke, it now cancels itself!
*we will cancel until there's nothing left !*

That's funny
Drinker is going to cancel himself if his future reviews are similar to Prey... Dude probably cucked out just to avoid getting swatted by the isl(amic rainbow squad...
Hollywood is devoid of creativity
Ezra’s antics has made every single thing that the Reverse Flash has ever done to Barry totally justified.
And this time it can not be undone by going back in time.
@@charlconradie4935 I bet he wishes he could 🤣🤣
not to barry
Always thought "Reverse Flash" was one of the stupider names. I mean, I know this is the same universe that has "Matter-eater Lad" and "Arm Fall Off Boy" (what unimaginitive fool comes up with DC names?!), but at least those last two get their own identities beyond "I'm the opposite/evil version of you!".
"It was ME, Barry!"
"At the moment, average is an improvement." What a sad story the story of Hollywood would make. From Bogie, Gable, & Wayne to Batgirl.
This is just a depressing fact, honestly
Who the fuck is Bogie? And is he on my tail?
@@mkultra2456 No, Humphrey Bogart is not on your tail.
Bruce Wayne?
If us normal people had the resources the "professionals" have we could publish better material.
Ezra Miller is either being secretly attacked by the Reverse Flash or he is the Reverse Flash.
"It was you all the time Barry."
-Reverse-Flash, Flashpoint
@@SuperOmnicronsj44 it would be fitting that Ezra pulls a savitar
Ezra is possessed by the Reverse Flash, he used speed force BS to take over his body.
He is A-Train.
"It was me, Barry. I beat the shit out of that woman."
-Reverse Flash, circa 2022
Only disappointment I have with Batgirl getting cancelled is not seeing AZ reaction to the movie.
“Before he started watching Batwoman this is what he looked like” (picture of jacked gym bro) “Now take a look at him!” (cue horrified screaming)
He still has Gotham Knights to look forward to.
Thorias Unlimited would have been fun to watch tear the film apart as well. He was the tip of the spear when it came to bashing on Batwoman.
I'm beginning to think that poor man has suffered enough.
And Michael Keaton.
Ezra Miller was born to play the titular character in "We need to talk about Kevin."
Or someone in the boys lol
The awkward moment when the actor becomes more like the character that they played
Disturbing ass movie
Same with Amber Heard in Mandy Lane
Good film by a great director and, as you pointed out, arguably the greatest casting director of all time.
Henry Cavill is the hero we need but don’t deserve. Ezra miller is the hero we deserve but nobody needs.

All according to plan
Fr all these CZcamsrs crying in videos like “Batgirl” was really a movie they’d been anticipating all year 😑
It's called reverse psychology.

Warner Bros: *Nah, it’ll be fine*
Could always listen to him recommend movies and tv😉
He can retire to his island and drink green milk.
It’s incredible that they were more willing to cancel Batwoman over Ezra Miller’s Flash, who was arrested several times in Hawaii for stealing and harassment. Now that decision hasn’t aged well since they probably will cancel Flash too.
Keatons Batman was also gonna be killed in that film and they didn't want that either, so they would've scrapped Batwoman either way.
@@TwistedReality13 Batwoman was low quality so it became a tax writeoff. The flash is actually considered a good movie so they know it will at least break even. Most people who will watch it have no idea about what ezra miller is doing.
@@baam25th31 I know.. they know that too.. only movie buffs and people like that know all the Miller details. They're gonna release Flash short of him murdering someone. I can almost guarantee that. This film will come out.
Just _easier_ to cancel Batwoman. Only people who follow the industry gossip and such knew the film was being made - The overwhelming majority of people had no idea it even existed - And how many actually _care?_ Seriously, race-swapped character wearing a quilt that makes her look like a 13 year-old boy...
Rumor is that Flash's movie was a lead-in to Batgirl. So if they cancelled Flash they would have had to cancel Batgirl, but the reverse is not true.
It was nice to hear the kind words regarding Grant Gustin. I think he absolutely has earned a place as the big screen flash.
True. But doesn't he have a contract with the cw? If he were to play flash on the big screen would cw and warner be able to share him, would the same actors from the show also be in it?
@@sportyj Considering The Flash show is one of the things that is getting cancelled, I'm not sure that contract will matter too much after 2023 (though CW could have been very petty with it, like they always are, and found a way to block him from the silver screen despite not having a show anymore).
Only problem is he's a glee actor. TV is kind of his thing.
I soured on him after the Hartley Sawyer affair. More importantly, while I'm not going to blame him for the CW's writing, especially in the later seasons, just as a performance he's long since reached his sell-by date. What's astonishing is how doggedly Warner has tried to stick with Ezra Miller through all the mediocre performances and off-camera scandals. It's not like this guy has a gigantic, reliable, movie-going fanbase, and it certainly isn't acting talent. They're better off starting from scratch or, better yet, putting the JL characters aside for a few years and creating some new franchises.
Not a chance.
I really feel bad for Michael Keaton. He has reprised his Batman role in the flash and batgirl only to have them both go down the crapper.
feel bad for 0 people in hollywood. they ALL did this to themselves
Keaton got paid anyway, I bet at this point he doesn't care
He HAS to know the fans wanted to see him. It's not his fault. I hope he knows that.
If the OG Batman can't save this film you know it's fucked.
Keaton got two HUGE paychecks for small nostalgia roles in two crappy movies, and now he doesn't have to suffer the embarrassment of anyone seeing them. He's a lucky guy!
He's getting paid either way and this will in no way endanger his career. I consider that a win.
Disparu - "I don't know if they're joking any more". The most relevant statement of the year so far.

Did I actually hear someone suggest that Superman actually go back to, dare I say Truth, Justice and the American way? How much soy milk and beyond meat are you going to sell with that kind of movie? Think of all the damage a wholesome well-written, balanced film could do. Think of the children. Think of the planet. Think of...The MESSAGE!
The vast majority of Americans and Europeans and Asians eat fish, meat and other animals. In France they eat Frogs legs and in Africa they eat baby monkeys. No soy needed.
F*ck the message and soy byproduct!!
GIMME AN AMERICAN SUPERMAN JAPANESE BELIEVE HE IS!
I was pleasantly surprised when Superman got to say "Truth, Justice, and the American way" TWICE in the new animated Flash movie, the one where the Flash goes back to WWII and meets the old Justice League. (This movie takes place in a newly started animated universe, so The Flash isn't aware of any other heroes except Superman. Since it's only the second film in the series after the superman one)
I drink oat milk, eat lots of Beyond meat, and I'd love a Truth Justice and the American Way Superman. I also don't have a problem with a big chunk of... the MESSAGE. I find in life there's twats of every political, religious, cultural, sexual and whatever you have position. Treat people well, help where you can let people live their lives. end of my.. MESSAGE.
Considering that Beyond Meat or Impossible Meat has been pretty common in the US and made by a U.S. company, is it not American Way? I mean, in other countries, there has been a bit more variety in terms of meat substitutes other than highly processed “meat” like those two products. And as long as the fast food workers don’t get your orders wrong, at least you got yourself a serving of truth and Justice as well.
Now make that Superman film of him munching on an Impossible Burger.

No one is appreciative of DC's commitment to creating an actual league of super villains; between Ezra Miller and Amber Heard I'm excited to see who else is going to be introduced.
😂
The return of Kevin Spacey!
I would really like to see a good Green Lantern series. I feel like there's enough there to please crowds who want more diversity, but obviously they can do it in a way that wouldn't even need to touch real world politics. Green Lantern lore is so cool and has yet to be attempted properly.
Given my profile name, I approve of this comment!
They could do a movie with Green Lantern #3 (John Stewart). He's Black and fairly well known thanks to the DCAU.
Maybe have Deathstroke kill Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan off in a fourth wall joke.
how about we just don't do super hero trash anymore?
@@SidneyBroadshead John Stewart's story is deeply linked with Hal Jordan's. Maybe don't do his origin story again. But please make a good movie with both.
Hal maybe as the guy who's been a green lantern for a few years, needing help and John stepping up. Highlighting their friendship and differences (Hal: the "fearless" one, John the tactical one with complex structures due to his engineering background).
The animated show is pretty decent once you get into it
In a way, Ezra Miller is helping reset DC on film, just like George Clooney did in 1997.
2005-2012 were DC’s most recent glory years. Since then it’s been ups and downs with more downs unfortunately.

The cancellation of Batgirl might be the best marketing move in history.
Yes. I want to see it more-so now. I want to see a movie so bad that a studio canceled it when it was finished, rather than releasing it. I could see this situation turning out like the Snyder Cut; getting more popular by fan outcry. I could see Batgirl making money and turning a profit just because people now have a desire to see a big Hollywood studio movie so had the studio canceled the release.
The first few seasons of CW's Flash are pretty fun... and that golden age Jay Garrick flash costume in season 2... absolute fire!
I have some fond memories of the first two seasons, mixed feelings about the third, and remember season 4 being such an absolute dumpster fire that I didn’t even bother to watch the rest.
@@LucLB01 I think that’s where I dipped out too.
"If Zaslav keeps going like this, his whole company will turn against him"
No they won't. A vocal minority will turn against him, who must the be sidelined or fired.
Disparu's point should have gotten more attention. Zaslav cuts a lot of movies. Eventually, the wokiest employees stage a rebellion. Maybe do a petition like they tried at SpaceX (and you'd _better_ sign, or we'll cancel you next). The media jumps on it, maybe a few employees file hostile work environment complaints with the federal government. Sure it's bogus but the justice dept uses the excuse to start an investigation, and the media uses the investigation to keep the news story going. Zaslav is CEO but not the Chairman of the Board. The Board decides they don't want the negative PR and tells Zaslav to back off, or just forces him to resign. Sure the company is better off without the woke activists, but Zaslav having the guts to stick to his plan won't help if his bosses override him.
Netflix resisted this because they're facing bankruptcy if they keep up the political crap. Elon Musk dodged most of the heat because he's the owner and doesn't have to answer to anyone. So maybe the board has had enough with woke politics and wants the profits more than they fear being cancelled, or maybe Zaslav has some leverage I'm not aware of, but _usually_ this story plays out with the CEO being forced out.
But the Board is appointed by the shareholders, and it has been the case (albeit rarely) that shareholders, seeing all their wealth slipping away, file a lawsuit and have the entire top of the company cut off and all the board, CEO, and top officers fired as a whole for being incompetent. People losing money aren't going to care about PR or excuses. In some cases, that's their LIFE'S WORK being wasted. Rumor is that something like this is brewing for at least one of the studios...
lol you had me up until the justice department getting involved; that is literally so hilariously dumb and conspiratorial -the justice department only gets involved in matters potentially concerning national defense and security, they don't giveAF about some actors or journalists bitching about their feelings and representation. However, besides that part, I think I agree with you for the most part (and certainly agree that Disparu's point was apt and perhaps under-acknowledged).
@@inventgineer dude, there's an entire division of the Justice Department devoted to Civil Rights. Which, as far as FICUS is concerned, includes hurting the feelings of special snowflakes.
@@HerculesBallsInc agreed, WBD stock is down roughly 50% from where it split with AT&T, I personally dumped my WBD stock ASAP after the split because at the time I didn't believe they'd get things squared away before the massive debt they hold and dismal prospects drags them all under. If Zaslav can get just 1 good movie out the makes a billion or close to it with a classic hero telling a good story then I think he might have a shot at it righting DC's direction. So it is a race to see what happens first, good movie showing this can work or more trash dragging the company under.
@@inventgineer Um, the Justice Dept gets involved in nearly _any_ kind of federal crime, since that dept encompasses the Attorney General and all the US attorneys and handles nearly all the criminal prosecutions.
In particular, the civil rights division handles enforcing the Civil Rights Act and cases of workplace discrimination. One body of case law includes discrimination in the form of "hostile work environment" regulations, and over the years that's been stretched to include nearly anything that offends (or might hypothetically offend) one or more workers at a company on the basis of membership in a protected class. This is why legal and HR people get so paranoid about a federal lawsuit.

Far too much "content" being produced right now in a desperate attempt to save streaming services from the ridiculous amount of competition. Sometimes I just don't have time for the full streams, so I really appreciate these little snack platters of highlights. Now that the show is over, maybe Grant should be the movie Flash, if he wants to. He could easily jump universes, they do it all the time, Ezra was even in the Crisis crossover.
Wanda Vision, Sylvie featuring Loki, Kate Bishop featuring Hawkeye, America Chavez Vs Wanda featuring the Sorcerer Supreme & Dr Strange, Female Thor and King Valkyrie featuring Thor, She HULK, Iron Heart, the Marvels... I'm pretty sure that Disney Marvel is no long making this "entertainment" for it's traditional fan base. Shame they aren't attracting a new fan base to replace the one they are alienating.
People who say things like that about the Loki series clearly didn't watch it to the end. Loki starts off in deep shit and tales some losses but he keeps fighting, gets stronger and wins in the finale. The whole thing is a character arc from rock bottom to climbing his way back on top.
What they did to Batgirl, they should have done to Ghostbusters 2016.

Im sure when he became the new CEO he explained his 5-10 year goals and it was agreed upon. The tax write off thing is misleading as well. Yes, they spent ~90 million and can write that off but to come to that decision there had to be a realization the movie wouldn't have even made that back and would have been a complete loss. Some people are acting like it may be a great movie just being shelved and that obviously not the case..
The hilarity in all of this is that they made pariahs out of their straight male leads that became fan favorites even though they were heavily under utilized, and the studio convinced themselves that they were the reason that DCEU was failing, then they went all in on their diversity hires but now they're actually the ones that are blowing up the DC brand to kingdom come (pun intended.)

I think there is an emerging realization that streaming doesn’t “work”. You cannot regularly make theatrical quality entertainment for streaming and not lose bushels of money. The old lets just dump it on streaming is just a way to lose slightly less than throwing the prints in a dumpster. Studios are going to have to go back to concentrating on releasing movies to theaters and making people wait several months before they can purchase a Blu Ray and a 9 months to a year before it’s on cable /streaming. Disc sales used to be a cash cow and they’ve skipped directly to TV. It’s madness and it’s unsustainable.

Speaking of Opportunity Costs, and other such costs associated with developing, advertising, and releasing a film. These companies would be a little more hesitant in taking in a new style that has not been tried or tested. This whole "Woke" series of films and shows were a big risk. The producers were conned with an idea that has not been tried, and they thought they could relate their "Utopian" idea of how they think society should work and try to influence that into story telling. Unfortunately this usually creates movies, shows, and characters that no one but the writer or director can relate to. Even worse, in your attempt to make every person look the same, you lose people's interest, and you lose a person's ability to care or feel emotion about the character. Which is why we watch movies in the first place. We want to feel!

So Ezra Miller has been hiding a woman and her three children, “allegedly,” on his property. Their child protective services in the state he lives in are trying to locate them with the help of local law enforcement. He said they have not been there for two months even though the mother’s social media posts indicate that they were there during this time frame. There are a couple of articles out there with some info. Also, WB stated that EM has been doing reshoots during the time that the police were looking for him. Good job WB.

What? Batgirl has been cancelled? Noooo Way.

Noooooo imagine how brave and diverse this could have been 😭
If anything, the sagas of Amber Hurd and Ezra Miller demonstates that these movie studios need to do a much better job of vetting actors before allowing them to headline multimillion dollar movies. Background checks and finding out if they have any weird fetishes that might get them arrested would be an obvious place to start.
that would probably rule out a ton of actors, tbh

The Flash TV show is not a major audience show. 99% of the cinema audience would even be aware.
He's been playing the character for 9 years. I genuinely think he wants to move on.
"Dicks out for Batgirl."
The Joker: "Way ahead of you!"
13:22 Az sounded like Ahnold for a second there, lol.
Grant Gustin has been doing the flash for years, at least he has to have some comprehension level to understand the character. Is he able to make a film level performance? I havent watched the flash since season 4 and he was kind of bad, Maybe he is beter now?, but I like to think that if some changes are needed in the character to take "The Flash Movie" in a different direction he could pull it off.
And Ezra Miller already did a cameo in the CW, so ithere would be gournds to make Grant Gustin be the flash.
Ezra is humanity fluid... ie at times unable to identify as human.
_"At this moment Ezra knew- he fukked up."_ - everyone, probably... most likely.
DCeased: "It's Morbin time!"
You should review the sandman on Netflix drinker! Fucking show goes from bad to woke in about 15 seconds.
Such a damn shame, I had to turn it off!
Same. I watched up to episode 3 to see if they would do the hell scene justice, then I stopped.
Honestly the fact they were advertising it is enough for me to know it’ll be bad. Is that weird? Haven’t seen ads for them terminal list
@@theelder4797 yeah I got to the diner episode and once the chef guy turned the waitress away and said he was having sex with her son I was done.
Every one is gay, every character has been race swapped, constant men hating angry females. Constant sexism. The main character was good as dream but the wokeness ruined it for me and chokes you
I decided not to watch it when I saw what they did to Death.
Drinker's 'sprinter' anaogy is such an accurate description of the DCEU. So much potential to be good, but then it just breaks its own legs. I put the blame purely on Snyder, and this is someone who actually enjoyed Man of Steel. BvS was a pooly-written mess of a film (yes I have watched the UE twice and my assessment remains the same) that should never have happened. It's what started all this - the massive backlash to BvS (58% drop in box office on its second weekend due to bad word of mouth which was, at the time, the second biggest drop in cinematic history). Ever since, WB has been in shambles trying desperately to throw shit at the wall and see what sticks.
I agree. I think DCEU wanted to mimic the MCU but didn't want to put in the effort to build it up. They gave us basically one individual movie, then a movie with three heroes, then tossed us into the team-up movie. They should have given us their version of Batman and Wonder Woman before going into BvS.
I do think they did a good job with Shazaam, though.
re: Ironheart. Genius, son of a genius, working for 20 years developing hi-tech weapons and equipment invents, with essentially limitless computing power and funds, the Iron Man suit as the pinnacle of his genius. Teen girl with zero resources and zero experience builds a suit that will no doubt be better than anything Tony ever built.
The fact that they went with the name “Iron Heart” instead of “Iron Maiden” speaks volumes.
@@SomeGuy1234X woah! That's too cool for modern marvel. It'll scare their staff.
Tony would have every right not to financially support falcon because falcon and co. tried to kill him and his friends in Civil War.
I genuinely think they canceled Batgirl cause it was pooping on the legacy of Batman too much. It is the age of the woke but Batman and Superman are too iconic and beloved to be race and gender swapped while dunking on the original character. It's still a cardinal sin in the eyes of the consumer base
They canceled Batgirl because Keatons Batman was gonna be murdered in the film.
you really think they canceled it because of the quality/content of the film itself? get real! there was clearly some shady shit going on in the background that we're not aware of. WB doesn't give a fuck about fans any more than disney does.
@@TwistedReality13
That can easily be edited out.
@@erubin100
What do you mean by Shady?
They cancelation of Batgirl was a purely monetary decision.
A good natured Superman who is turned into a helpless mush when in the presence of Lois lane? The 1978 Superman with Richard donner Christopher Reeve and Margo kidder was just that It’s great and hilarious and has no huge fights Reeve and kidder get it all just right The template is right there
Not many people
Will like that today
@@maryzerey3295 I don’t know When people think of Superman today it’s still Christopher Reeve who comes to mind In one scene done in one take with no change in lighting or costume he changes from Clark to Superman and then back to Clark with just a change is posture and expression It’s great Superman’s vulnerability with Lois is charming and Margo kidder’s wonderful good natured performance is a perfect compliment I enjoy her going on about eating only healthy food while smoking one cigarette after another Even Larry hagman is hilarious in one brief severely politically incorrect scene The movie is only weak where they ran out of money
Another aspect I like about this movie is that Superman’s good natured personality is the result of his normal past just as Jessica jones’ difficult personality is the natural result of her tragic past In most of these current movies and shows the personality is grafted on for political correctness but here the personality is natural and thus interesting

Now I like chris reeve
But the days were living
Are dark
And people want a Superman
That reflects today
The Social media etc
It's what people want
Something older
They will attack it without
Mercy
Because of course
They don't understand
The consept of Mercy
@@maryzerey3295 social media people are hateful morons who offer nothing to society Look at the success of the top gun movie That must give them fits During the depression, a far darker time than now, the hit movies were all musicals by the likes of bugsby Berkeley and Fred and ginger People may want movies to reflect the time but not a steady diet of it They also want to have fun at the movies
Back in school I took a whole course about political novels and another about political movies What is it that makes an overtly political movie like Z or Burn work so well than this current junk so repulsive to people? For one they embed the politics in a compelling story and they treat the audience as adults and not as children to be lectured to It’s not that they reflect the zeitgeist of the time
Here I am posting on social media I hope that I am not being that obnoxious as a twitter poster
05:48 The reaction to Ironheart cast was priceless 🤣🤣🤣
yeah no one but az gave a shit that they’re on the lgbt+ spectrum, everyone was silent or like “ok then”
Also, I do like Grant Gustin as the Flash. I've heard criticisms about his running, etc, but I don't know enough to care. It's such a shame CW can't seem to write scripts worthy of the material.
Replacing Ezra Miller with Grant Gustin is probably the best way to save the Flash movie.
Yes, the series sux but its hard to find someone, who actively dislikes Grant.
that would cost too much. So there are two possible options they bin the film or release it.
Yes, I mean .. he already has a fan base. I mean, how bad could he actually be compared to the other guy - who's never played the character. can you believe Eliot Page is being suggested as the replacement? smdh
@@SuperOmnicronsj44 you know how much it would cost to replace the star of the movie? It would be cheaper to start from scratch lol.
@@SuperOmnicronsj44
They suggest who?!?! xD
(this has to be a troll)
Now im even interested how batshit Batgirl was that it was canceled in modern times
The economy is in a downturn. David Zaslav is a money guy and if you're not making money you're gone. Muh feelings doesn't pay the bills
