- A White-tailed kite hawk goes hunting. At the end of the video he catches something (a vole I think) out of my view but brings it back to one of his favorite spots where it swallow it's victims head whole! We’ve got them in Sacramento....I just started noticing them with the hovering they do....very beautiful raptors indeed. I’ve seen one in San Francisco as well and wondered which kind of raptor it was...excellent footage my friend!
Stephen Cook I just saw one in Elk Grove! Never seen one before but when I saw the mid air flapping I knew it had to be some sort of kite.
I live near Sac state and we have 2 that live in my tree. The male hunts at the river, and the female is currently sitting on some eggs!!!

Wow... these birds are just breathtaking. We had the pleasure of seeing one hovering when we visited the Lagoons, but unfortunately we didn't have any binoculars with us and it was at the end of its hunt.

Beautiful! I got to watch a pair hunting over Lime Ridge Open Space (just north of Treat) last night.
Awesome they are fun to watch aren't they:) I actually shot this right by where you live in Martinez. They live in Briones I believe it's the Alhambra Ave staging area entrance. You drive about 1/2 mile in, park and hike up the hill above the parking lot. I love this vantage point because you are almost even with their nest but on a different hill so I don't bother them or get too close. Usually at first I don't see them but after an hr of so they generally show up or come out of their nest and go about their daily business. Thanks for watching and commenting, take care, Alex.

Beautiful bird, love there eyes. Are they on the East coast? I've seen hovering like that with the American Kestrel in New York it's amazing.

Alex that was an awesome video ! We have two White Tail Kites in our backyard now for the last 2 months. A creek runs behind us loaded with frogs, our Redwood trees have many squirrels . May I ask what kind of camera video equipment did you use? I know nothing about photography . We have many other species of birds and hawks/coyotes/Turkeys and other wild life in the area. Thank you for sharing and love the "dramatic tunes" it is a hunt right!?!

+szaki Yes they are awesome! I think in Europe technically you have the Old World/Black-Winged Kite but they are almost the same in fact yours sounds slightly more majestic now that I've typed Old-World-Black-Winged-Kite and thought about it.

Well if you watch it until the end you’ll see that kite rip the head off of the mouse it caught and swallow it whole.....pretty dramatic if you ask me....
