There are few birds with the hovering skills of Black-shouldered Kites. This video explores their expertise in the air over a heath in Red Rock, New South Wales, Australia.
These birds hunt for mice, lizards, and insects by hovering in place with their heads facing into the wind. They will keep their head stable and their eyes locked on the ground below, searching for any movement. When they dive to catch their prey, they pull their wings back and drop, talons out to swoop down on the unsuspecting victim.
Black-shouldered kites are found only in Australia, though they are similar to other kites from other parts of the world.

Great video.... Thankyou, now I know what's been upsetting all the BY Birds 😂The noisey miners crank it up to another level I've never heard before. We're so spoilt with amazing birds in Australia.

They are not found in South Africa. You must be confusing them with the Black-winged Kite.

    Saw one of these today.
The magpies and noisy miners really didn’t like him - tbey were attacking him mid hunt non stop.
Any reason the other birds gang up on them?

They chase them off because Black-shouldered Kites will eat their young. They do that to all raptors. 🙂
