- This episode is an interesting and in-depth look at the swallow-tailed kites of Palm Beach County Florida. We gain an understanding of the challenges facing this iconic species as it journeys from Florida to Latin America every year and we gather some interesting perspectives from the people tasked with the species' protection. We also see scissor-tailed flycatchers and one of the kite's greatest threats, the great horned owl.
They've been flying around my house for over a month now!! I didn't know what they were!! They're so awesome
We have ALOT of dragonflies here nomnomnom
Yes - amazing birds Scott!
Yes, they're flying over our house now, over in Hernando county! I went looking for information.
@@zombiiesque they keep coming back where I am!
I've been wondering what these forked tailed birds are for a long time now. Finally got my answer! We actually have quite a lot of them here, I see them often.
TFS, always the best birding videos
Fantastic episode! Its great to see that the kite population is healthy and growing.
@Meggan Boissy not only spam, but spam that encourages breaches of boundaries and possibly cyberstalking. Yeah, no thank you.
Thank you so much ! This is a fantastic video with a lot of knowledge of Swallow Tail Kites!!!
awesome episode James!
For the last ten years, I've been seeing a couple pairs of these birds around my home in the Panhandle. Prior to that, I can't remember ever seeing them locally. They're gorgeous.
I had the pleasure of one gliding in a vertical spiral, almost spiritual to watch. By the time I looked at my camera and back up it was absolutely gone! It struck me, the beauty and awe that is, not the kite😆so somehow I'm going to try to capture that moment in a tattoo. I think there's more majestic birds than an Eagle! But they're awesome as well! Saw two fighting in mid air and holding each other till juuuust before they hit the water and go back up and do it again, it was incredible!! But the Kite...that moment watching him/her fly in the spiral felt like it was just for me and I watched as hard as I could till I tried to bring electronics in and poof he was gone. It has stuck with me for sure. Mesmerizing moment!😍
SW Volusia just a few days ago. 4/22/23
These burds are amazing but they can be asses because they eat bees. Cool video I’ve learned a lot about these amazing aerial acrobatic raptor predators
To my joy have just discovered your site. Thank you for this beautiful, informative episode; I look forward to enjoying more. Best wishes from New Zealand.
Awesome information 👌 👍
Beautiful birds
glad I ran into this .I watch the kites in my backyard on Sanibel Island.very relaxing.can hear them before I even look up for them
Thank you so much. Enjoying my new Nikon Coolpix b500 camera. And just subscribed to this channel. :)
I believe I saw one fly over my house in my community here in Greenacres Florida! Wow!
We had 2 at our lake about 6 months ago and now there appears to be at least 8 on some days. Love watching these birds fly and how they drift turn (i made that up). I was reading about them the other day on some website and it says its rare for them to eat small fish but ive been watching them for some time now and they hunt similarly to an Osprey by gilding just above the water and scooping fish up. Anyway, really fun to watch!!!
Love that the great horned owls eat the swallow tailed kites when they sleep and don’t make any noise when they fly. They are truly awesome raptors.
dope video. love the birding in this area of florida. when are you guys producing more episodes?
Nice
One showed up in my backyard recently and keeps coming back, I installed a couple of small ponds and live near salt water. I wonder if my freshwater ponds are attracting them? I have a lot of insects too
Could well be - they love insects!
What time of year was that? I know spring for the Swallow-tailed Kites but I'm interested in the scissor tailed fly catcher!
The flycatcher was in winter
Texas is probably a better place to find the scissor tailed fly catcher. I see them regularly on power lines when driving down the road. Texas is an amazing birding location...especially in the spring and fall.
I live in Wellington, Seen Kites in my area but would love to see more, in safe way for both them & me….suggestion? Out west by the lake? Please advise
In orlando ,,we have a nesting g couple ,,they are back❤❤❤❤❤❤
These guys as well as at least 30 other species visit my backyard almost daily in west south-central Florida
Theres loads of kites where i live in polk county
Where in palm beach county that is?
They do eat birds. Just today I saw it. They also ate the cedar waxwings over blueberries fields..
Very interesting!
Great information but way to much time spent on commercials.
Agreed
Agreed. And way too much insignificant background on STAs and Tourism plugs at outset. I abandoned at 4:30 before I ever heard word "swallow tailed kite."
@@RBJII be positive, you can just skip to the kite parts anyways
Hambubger
What is with this rock music in a natural history video? I want to hear what the World sounds like where these animals live! I can hear heavy metal crap anywhere. Thumbs down!
Hey Breck, thank you for the constructive criticism. We're always working to better our craft. I think you'll enjoy our recent episode on the Grey Wolves of Yellowstone. It features a much more immersive soundscape!
