There is nothing more important then getting your kids outside. I’m 53 and have taken my kids out dispersed camping from the beginning. They are all grown and gone doing their own thing, but they all still make time to get outside and enjoy nature. I have my parents to thank for that, and your kids will be thankful to you. Love your vids!! Keep doing what you’re doing!!

You can add some jacks (like used on travel trailers) in the back of your trailer so you won’t need leveling blocks. 2x 5000lb jacks should be more than enough and are fairly cheap.

Those are used for stabilizing, not leveling

At my local junk yard they sell sisser Jacks from cars for 5$ 99% of them are new. I weld a nut on the end and use a cordless drill & nut driver, up/down zip zip.

Also they stabilize the trailer. So when you're wife is fighting a bear in her sleep it ain't rocking all over.

      @kylancook3477 Před 2 lety +17

@@mrpogi3 do you only ever use things exactly what they are labeled? 2 5k Jack's will work wonderfully to level a light trailer like this.

    • @ranig2848
      @ranig2848 Před 2 lety +10

@@mrpogi3 if the jacks have high enough rating they are good for leveling. The only reason that they tell you to use them for stabilizing only on RVs is because the jack or frame is under-rated (to reduce cost). If frame and jack are strong enough, they can be used for leveling (similar jacks are used to lift pickup trucks, so can surely level a tiny trailer)

Your battery droping to about 12.5 volts under load is normal for fully charged 12 volt lead acid battery. 13.5 volts measured after charging without any load on the battery is just a surface charge that will drop off in few seconds after putting load on the battery. If it stays above 11.5 volts until about half of the rated capacity is used up its good. (Hope this all made sense, english isnt my first language)

I have a setup I made that fits neatly in a pelican case with a seaflo pump, and with water inlet and outlet points coming out of the case. The inlet hose has a weighted strainer to chuck into a creek and all powered by a makita tool battery so it can be at a stream away from camp. The pump doesn't seem to mind the extra voltage. Neat package, everything fits within the pelican case apart from the outlet hose.

My suggestion for the area of your camper you wish to possibly put a drawer slide in, in which I love your idea. My suggestion would use a two-tiered system. Double decker slide out drawers. Using the same mesh system that you used for your full down exterior table on your trailer. You can still put sides on them if you wish, okay maybe I would put sides on them. But using that material it would keep your system light, very strong. Also you wouldn't have to lock yourself into one certain anchoring points, giving you more options on how and where you store your items. Meaning you could use a mesh tie down system / or even just simple bunches. Using the mesh material as your drawer slide, you be able to have endless anchor points for your supplies. You can move your stuff around freely, from upper shelf to lower shelf, seeing how it travels, without having to worry about how to mount down your items, keeping them in one place. Anyway, that's just my lame idea. Absolutely love how you used a variety of materials, I believe this is probably one of the best offroad campers I've ever seen, no joke. That suspension system is amazing, I loved how it got all flexy out on the trail. Love all the other ideas you're coming up with. Welding out on the trail, now I've got to see that one. Keep us posted on what solution you came up with on your drawer system, very interested in seeing what you have chose. Blessings to you and yours, safe travels.

Large, 5th wheel style full pullout drawer in the back, WITH a copy above it, but that one is only a shelf that slides out. On the side, a similar port to the one on the right, but it also has slide out functionality. The back support is one side of the metal shell that encases the air intake filter, which also extends down to the floor of the trailer to have a small, locker type storage area that can be locked securely, and independently. But that’s just a few on my thoughts. You do you, sir, because it’s worked quite well for you so far, and you have far superior ideas and skill than me.

The next step of the organization of the trailer is definitely a must. The slide out would be the first thing and the second storage above the table would utilize that waisted space well. The suspension on it worked great out there on the trails and from the way you described it there is no problems on the freeways.

Id want to bring the battery count to 6+, Rollable solar panel and a 220v/120v box. Good power backup at home for power outages. If the ability to weld is something you might want, grab a Harbor Freight unit, rip it apart and build it into the trailer body. No need to rewire in an emergency and dont have to carry a welding unit around.... the trailer in the unit.

Couple pondering ideas…. What if you had a step camber (like the type you can use to leverage up a trailer axle when you have a flat) between the axle and the frame to lock the suspension in a lift VS putting items under the wheel?
What if you had an air shock in a disconnect setup where you can use that to level the trailer?

Here's my opinion. When you open the front door of the trailer, that right side that's like a junk side right now, you should do a 2 layer drawer system (stacked), with some dividers built in. One layer can be like everybody's clothes, the other can be tools, kitchen stuff, all other stuff. I think the door shock may have to be worked around, maybe you could move it to the center of the door somehow.

Definitely 2 drawers, and for the angled area in the back, flat containers, like for under bed storage, with maybe a rail setup to hold them so they will not flop around. Then add some kind of strap/handle that lets you easily pull them up and lower them down…

Not sure how common off road trailers or camper trailers are over there in general but here in Australia they are everywhere, almost every option, style etc I think is covered if you need other ideas. Slide out kitchens, slide out drawers or slide out tables or slide out racks to put totes or tubs on etc. If doing deep water crossings make sure your seals are good and be aware the trailers can float and either Jack knife into or pull the truck sideways depending on how fast the water is flowing.

Watching Nate, Brad, Lite Brite, etc. has given me the realization I can't afford a new Wrangler or Gladiator with all the trimmings. No way. What I can do is breath a new set up on my XJ and bring it up to current from it's 20+ year old lift and outfit it to go overlanding. She may not have the gobs of room inside like a Wrangler, but the underneath is almost the same. First order of parts is on the way. New tires stacked up in the garage waiting. Needs a heater core and some minor mechanical buy overall the 4.0 is strong and I still daily it. 4x4 works perfect, and its only at 120k. I just might see you out there Nate! The most important message was at the very end, grab your kids, get your keys and go on adventure! I absolutely love taking my family and friends camping, there is nothing better than all the planning and hard work paying off. I wish there was a way to share pics of CZcams I would post up my adventure trailer my wife and I have built here in KY until we can move out west lol.

I agree, that I would love to see a after the trail series on what's mods and fixes you end up doing to the trailer. It looks amazing so far.

13:15 Your wife uses the front camera to see where the Jeep is going. You use the rear camera to see how the trailer you built is performing. Understandable. 😁. Great video

I work in the trailer industry in northern Indiana, a auto level system from lippert components would be a quick plug and play option for electric jacks…can even be controlled from your phone

For the one side in the trailer make a slide platform and put Milwaukee pack out mounts and then organize in movable pack out containers

I have Espar bunk heaters in all of my semi sleepers. They are hands down the best. They are expensive but the quality, reliability, and temperature control is unmatched by others. The only time I've had issues is at over 12,000 feet. I have seen high altitude models but I do not have any experience with them. I won't travel without one. I haul in the mountainous west and even in the summer I've used it at night.

Great job! Good ideas for storage. I am definitely going to build one. Best memories of my childhood was camping and hunting with my Dad. Keep making memories!

I think you should manufacture a two drawer system next to the fridge. I think you could also build some double ended shelving that’s accessible from the back and the front.

Here's some ideas you might find worth looking into.
On my little remote steerable camper trailer I used a removable computer mount that hangs on the right rear side of the camper near the rear kitchen. The Kitchen is in the rear with a raising hatch, My Coleman Propane stove clamps onto the computer stand. (A computer table ike what the Police use to mount their computers in their cap cars.) This frees up my counter space! And makes a nice table for other things, because it swings out so I can even put my laptop on it and bang away on the INternet or watch a movie on it. Don't do that much, but I can.
And I also have a 12" x 20" table that mounts with a square tubing type reciver hitch to the other side of the kitchen, near the left side sink. The male end is bolted to the underside of the table and fits in the reciever mounted to the bottom of the shelf. Makes a great cutting board area too! The freezer slides out under the center of the counter top.
The top of my camper raises and swings open like a ammo can (only much bigger) and has the foam matteress strapped to it's underside when roading it. I used a cut down nylon floorless tent for the actual top of the camper, with fiberglass bows to hold the tent roof up. And the tent goes over the bed that is now flopped over toward the front trailer tongue. There are 2 suppport poles that set in pockets under the roof/ bed and to the trailer tongue like a pop up camper bed to prop up the main bed.
My hot water heater mounts on "T" pins on the left rear side of the camper body and all the hoses are in a frenched in compartment behind a side door. I can run a regualr campground hose to it or draw from the onboard water tank. This way I have hot & cold water to the sink, and I use a shower wand to inside a hoola hoop with 2 overlapping shower curtains that hang off thelt left side of the camper to use as a privacy shower.
My shower floor grate is a small "sanded and varnished 30" X 40" pallet" that actually fits in the bottom of my trucks roof top luggage rack for flooring when traveling.
With the kitchen hatch is raised I can hang up mosquito netting to keep the bugs out, but thinnking of investing in a 270 degree side awning for it so it even has an awning over the side entry door. And with the side curtains it will make a nice little bug free room in the right side of the camper.
My camper is a little taller than the white one in the video and the side entry door makes getting in easy.
Inside it there is a place for 2 people to sit at a small fold up table, and a Hassock toilet in the end wall under a cross cabinet. For your application, this set up could be converted to bedding and matteress for the Kiddoes while Mom and dad sleep up in the bed. Which will make you think of a pop up slide out bed. Only higher off the floor!
With the bedflopped open and the tent up, standing up inside is not a problem.
This sounds real top heavy but most all the weight is stored nearer the floor to keep it from getting tippy. And since I use the front suspension from a torsion bar suspended pickup I can just crank the torsion bars to raise or lower the trailer depending on how heavy I pack it. The remote steering is the most fun, as I can put my Marlin Crawler in dounle low and let my spotter steer the trailer while i follow his directions driving the Rig. Going around trees and big rocks is a breeze,
    My 4 X 4 Rig is a 1993 SAS'ed Isuzu Rodeo.
Great fun, but I too still have things I want to finish on it. Like spray bedliner on the exterior for sound deadening and stiffen up the walls. Oh and hook up the solar panels to the kitchen hatch. It already has 2 Optima AGM batteries mounted under the floor, and a 26 gallon water tank under there between the frame rails too.
I've spent the last 20 years perfecting this little camper! And just thought I'd add some ideas .
Your little camper turned out really nice!
