  • Overland Essentials at ...Harbor Freight?
    Budget overland gear; Overlanding on a budget isn't as hard as you might think. I found tons of gear at even my local Harbor Freight. If you live somewhere where there aren't any overland or offroad shops nearby, maybe you can find the gear at your regular shops instead.
    Obviously I would say try to buy local when you can but if you can't there always other options.This is just one part of a series of videos where I go to local shops and try to find budget offroad and overlanding gear.

    11:15 HEY! Read this! I was given a survival kit (presumably from Amazon) with tons of goodies in it. One of the things was a 3-in-1 knife: glass breaker, seatbelt cutter, and knife.
    Mr and a buddy wanted to test out the glass breaker and seatbelt cutter on some junk cars (at my work).
    The knife was sharp, but the seatbelt cutter didn’t work (the blade was straight instead of being mounted at an angle like in a letter opener). The glass breaker DID not work. Both of us wailed on a few different pieces of auto glass with no result. The only result we could actually get was the flattening out of the metal glass breaker tip itself.
    If you have any survival stuff, like this, go try it out somewhere (responsibly) before your life depends on it.
    That is all.

    Hey i wanna add to the fire extinguisher thing. Keep a fire extinguisher in your off-road vehicle regardless of if you intend to start a fire. You’re working your vehicle (typically) harder than the factory intended and that (along with other circumstances) could lead to a vehicle fire. Keep your fire extinguisher within your reach and always have an ABC rated extinguisher. That will extinguish combustibles, flammable liquids, and electrical fires.

    If you are going to go the hammock route I’d recommend an underquilt. When using a normal sleeping bag in a hammock you compress the filling on your back and it doesn’t work well with the wind under you

  • @escapetherace1943
    @escapetherace1943 Před 9 měsíci

    I own that 4 1/2 lb axe. I'd unwrap and inspect the blade in the store because they are of varying quality and I would especially inspect the handle. It is a very heavy axe and will tire you out really quick if you are remotely out of shape or don't cut wood often. I honestly think it is more of a felling axe than a splitting axe but it will split some fairly large logs (18 inch long x 8+ inches) really easily in a single stroke so it's overkill for camping.
    The 2nd gordon knife looks a lot like a knife kershaw made back in the day called the breakout (I still own mine)

  • @jeepinbanditrider
    @jeepinbanditrider Před 4 měsíci

    I've got that hammock. Works well, you can tell the material quality isn't up to par with my ENO but what do you expect for 15 dollars? My only tripe with it is the tree straps have very few loops so you have limited adjustment. The ENO straps are far better and worth the cost.
    On the generator front, for camping. Pick up an Inverter Generator with an ECO mode. These are incredibly quiet and fuel efficient. They aren't much larger than some of the big battery banks. They produce more than enough power for a campsite. If I was going out for an extended time and given my experience trying to go straight solar, I would probably borrow or one break down and buy one and take it with me.

      Lol no. It just turned into a commercial for harbor freight. I was expecting more of "this is stuff I use that works well" not a "the box says" kind of thing. You started off strong, but were kind of reaching twards the end. I'm over at HF all the time, they have lots of good stuff peppered in with allot of garbage no one should bother with. So I always like to see their stuff reviewed and used IRL.

    I have to say that anyone depending on Chinese made rigging (straps, slings, shackles, etc) may find themselves in deep trouble. My company and industry does not permit the use of anything but US made equipment for this.

    • @OXFOOT
      @OXFOOT  Před 10 měsíci +11

    Turn off the background music. It is beyond me why CZcams content creators think playing background music over their voice is somehow enhancing their videos, it is not, it is distracting. We came to hear you, not to fight background music which quickly becomes extremely annoying and intrusive. Many folks have hearing difficulties, thus while concentrating on your voice they must also concentrate on tuning out the music; frustrating. Your background music ruins an otherwise exceptionally good presentation.

    Hey as far as jumper cables are concerned don’t use them on more modern vehicles! These jumper cables have a tendency of once the vehicle that needs the jump can send a feed back once the jumped vehicle has been started, this feed back charge can burn out fuse boxes and bus systems and if the vehicle that needs the jump is large enough the feed back can burn out the jumper vehicles ECM or BCM either way the jump box fully charged will never send a feed back charge! Best way to explain this is kinda silly to me but it shows the point. If you’ve ever watched the first Avengers movie just remember when Thor calls the lightening down to direct that charge at Iron Man but Thor wasn’t expecting Iron Man’s suit to absorb the charge then throw that charge right back at him! This is what can happen when using jumper cables. So please don’t use jumper cables on anything new enough to have a ODBII system or anything newer then 1996.
