Things Get Out Of Control On This 600 mile Offroad Trail. WA Back Country Discovery Route.

- The Washington back country discovery route or BDR is one of the most amazing things I have done offroad. My Toyota was the first vehicle on much of this trail in 2022 and being on this trail early made it absolutely brutal.
This was 10 days and 600 miles of unbelievable views, dangerous snow drifts and epic overland adventure!
Huge thanks to Powerstop Brakes and OnX offroad for making this trip possible!

First off, thank you for watching these videos, folks. I love telling these stories through video and without your support, making videos about my adventures would be impossible. Second, think about the last time you saw a youtuber force the marketing director to fix trails and cut hundreds of trees for 10 days lol. It's rare to have companies that actually want to be a part of the car community in this way. Jake is a savage, and I couldn't have made this video without him and Powerstop Brake. When it's time to replace or upgrade your brakes, support the companies that support our ability to make content. Choose Power Stop because they are among the highest quality in the industry and choose Powerstop because they support creative ideas like a 10 day Back country stewardship mission 👊. IMO, your best content yet! Thank you!
You guys are awesome. Such stewards of the land. Amazing!
Really enjoyed this video!
Thank you for showing the work side of these trips as well. Lotta people I’ve run into don’t really have a grasp of that.
Thanks for the video Nate! I would also like to second the shout out to PowerStop. I have no affiliation, but I just upgraded on my JK last weekend and it was worth it.
Thank you so much for cutting the downed trees to the width of the road. It really grinds my gears when people cut the downed trees just wide enough to pass with an ATV or even a Jeep!
Bring your own saw then
I always do when I re-open a trail👍✌
Amen Brother!!! If ya gonna clear it, then CLEAR IT!! And YES bring your own saw, but if you’re gonna do it, do it right and help EVERYONE else on the trail!! That’s what the trail adventure & lifestyle/community is ALL ABOUT…!
When we open up a trail we also open it wide enough for everyone.
@@2112kustoms., the effort is the same, so be nice and think in the others too.. 😉
I enjoyed every minute of this video. I'm a 76 year old woman who drives a little soft roader, and I'll never do a trip like this, but I loved doing it vicariously through your video. And you did a great thing for everyone who does that trail by all your hard work clearing all those trees.
Oh dear, I wish i can pack u some serious warm gear, plenty of comfort, probably a nurse too and take you on this trip. God bless you Ma'am.
Never say never ma'am.... Ho knows maybe there is a kind soul around the corner who is willing to take you for a spin! Unfortunately I'm from Spain.... If not I would be in front of your house already. God bless you and your family.

Trail fairies, or trail pixies, as we in Finland like to call guys who open winter trails for fat biking and mountain biking. You are definitely that, in a scale a step larger. As a fellow off roader, motorcyclist and mountain biker from thousands of miles away, you are awesome. Even if I don't ever get to drive that trail, thank you! And thanks for the episode!
Hmmmm. An unexpected “Lumberjack Buddies” video. This channel needs to blow-up; it’s what CZcams was made for.
I really like that you had three very different rigs and you showed what good trail stewardship looks like. Great video
I'm with you! My favorite videos have a variety of vehicles. It's more interesting to watch a bunch of different builds tackle the same obstacles then the same Jeep over and over just slightly different colors lol.
@@DirtLifestyle yes and I LOVE a good Jeep build, it’s not my personal preference. I want an Overland Rig, cause it HAS to be my everyday driver also! It will obviously see more highway miles than actual dirt off-road miles, but that’s the TRUE fun in it. Its NOT all about the destination. It truly is all about the JOURNEY!!!
@@DirtLifestyle Love my Jeep, and the midsize trucks are badass (especially done up like your Taco) but that Chevrolet was so cool to watch! Good seeing the older rigs on the ride. Movie production quality...well done.
I grew up in the Gifford Pincho National Forest. When I was a teenager this was what we did on the weekends. 4 or 5 of us would load up and head up to the high lakes by Mt. Adams and Mt. St. Helens clearing the roads as we went. The nostalgia of watching this is overwhelming.
I feel you bro we use to do this all the time but in Colorado, it feels like your getting first tracks in the wilderness haha. All those sketchy times snow wheeling are nostalgic for sure but things could have gone crazy south from the amount of dumb shit we tried to drive in the middle of no where (anything to find/get to the spot) so I lowkey get anxious lol, at least these guys got a plan. Its good to see other people going hard out there tho.
Even we are not 4-wheeling yet but do appreciate people like you guys. Thank you.
Nate, this by far is one of the best overland adventure vblogs I have watched. I can't wait to get my rig up and running and who knows, maybe someday i will meet you on the trail. Until then keep the awesome content rolling.
Thank you! I'm honored to have such high praise 🙌
Exactly
Agreed! You're a great story teller.
@@DirtLifestyle explain why you don't run lockers during slow.maneuvers on snow? It sounds ridiculous. But I'm all ears
@@sasquatchrosefarts He said in the video that the lockers would dig into the deep wet snow. He wanted to avoid digging in.
I like seeing full-size vehicles making it through the trails. Granted I live in MN and doing something like this would be hard to drive out there then wheel for a few days. Just would like to see more overlanding stuff with big old chevys in the Midwest.
Yes, my work in progress is a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 Ext Cab Z71. It’s sitting on 33’s I’d like to go up to 35’s (it already had what I think is a factory lift, but I may need another 3” for proper travel). 99% of the time I’m alone in the truck so I don’t need a crew cab, but I want the 6.5’ long bed anyways cause I don’t want a rooftop tent.
I also own a ‘93 Chevy Suburban, BEST truck I’ve ever owned by far!! But the engine went and I don’t want to bother rebuilding or replacing it. Plus I wanted to get back into a PickUp.
Epic. It was fun navigating y’all ruts that were still there August8. I picked that trail by chance and took the same pic of Rimrock Lake. This video was next level!
I grew up wheeling in Ellensburg, WA and loved seeing my old stomping ground’s. I now live in Santa Clarita, CA and play in the Mojave Desert. Great video, brought back a lot of memories.
Great video. I love your mix of fabrication videos and trail videos. I’m a metal fabricator for 25 years now so I fabricate all of my own stuff for my JK. Keep up the good work.
25 years! Nice! I will get there eventually but until then I'm glad you are digging the content man 👊
Fantastic video Nate! Trip of a lifetime! We hope everyone is itching to get out in their rig now...
I worked drilling rigs for SEDCO and Precision Drilling for 10 years in northern BC, Alberta, Sask...A suggestion, get yourself some chains (and bungy strap them tight) when you get into extended snow / mud / steep inclines / declines/ side steep roads... Its incredible how much traction/grip you will get - just gives you added safety. Chains make your truck unstoppable.
Amazing video guys, respect your adventurous spirit - not many people that would take on a mostly unknown challenge like this.
Great idea!
What an incredible trip! Exhilarating at times but Amazing! Thanks for all the hard work on the trails and the extra work to bring us along on your journey. Stay safe and stay on the trails
Hey Nate! You're making some killer content! So good in fact that im up at 5am (Queensland Australia 🇦🇺) to watch it 🤙🏻
Thanks... but get to bed man lol. Sleep is important 🤣
@@DirtLifestyle haha nah 5am is a sleep in I'm up at 330 for work most days (mining electrician)
@@andrewwheeldon4494 thanks for doing what you do !
Absolutely (insert expletive here) epic, Nate. I just don't have the words... I'm jealous of you and the life you are able to protray on CZcams. I know it's probably even a helluva lot harder than you let on in the videos, but the adventure I'm sure is worth it. And the fact that it's captured on video so you can enjoy it years from now, to ensure the memory of it doesn't fade, is epic in it's own right.
My hat off to you and the guys you went with. And while I'll probably never see the trails you were on, I thank you on behalf of anyone who does those trails, for the hard work you guys did clearing them. I've done some miniscule clearing of some downed trees in the past couple of years, but nothing like what you guys accomplished!
I live vicariously through your videos. If you ever find yourself in Chilliwack, BC, I'd love to take you out for a coffee (or drink of your choice)!
Hey I really appreciate it man! I'm glad this video got you fired up! Not sure when I will be back in BC but I do love it up there. Thanks for the offer 👍
Thanks for clearing some trail guys. Did Packwood to Chelan with my M1101 on the back last weekend of June with some friends. Was excellent! Crazy what a few weeks will do. Much dryer though still muddy in the shade and I hade to winch my heavy rig in the same spot David did just going the other way.
For anyone that thinks they can't do this I've a 2010 silverado 3500hd 4x4 reg cab with a utility box on it. Looks like a AAA truck because it once was. Stock height, boorish no terrain tires and nothing but the govlock and an Apex winch to get me and my M1101 trailer where I'm going.
Thank you for cutting all those trees! WOW !! Thanks for opening it up for us Washington backroad drivers,
LOVE that Suburban!!!!
Me too!
It's a favorite of mine. It just never gets old, even after all these years.
I love that you did this in one video. What an epic trip!🍻
I wanted it to be one video from the beginning. I prefer long form video like this even if CZcams doesn't like them lol.
That suburban is a god damn national treasure. BIG IS BEAUTIFUL.
Thank you for all the work on our trails over here, it has been a brutal year clearing. Have put many hours in clearing single track. The Beehive washout is a bit puckering for sure! We went across it 4 years ago, haven't really gone back, other more fun less death like places to explore around here haha, thanks again!
Lol I totally get it man. There are plenty of great places that aren't dangerous for no reason 🤣. I wish someone would fix beehive before someone get hurt.
@@DirtLifestyle perhaps video of you going back and fixing it.
@@iffykidmn8170 Agreed.
@@DirtLifestyle You've shown on your videos that your the type of guy to take care of the trails for the future, sounds like a job for you maybe.
The production quality of this film is off the charts. Nate, you’re in the CZcams big leagues with both content creation and production. The hard work shows! Thank you!
Great meeting you guys (my brief cameo at 39:20). When you said you just got done cutting a bunch of trees I couldn’t have even imagined that many! Great video Nate
Winter is coming, class. I love winter offroad😍
Hard work is it's own reward! Glad you all enjoyed and have such wonderful memories.
That was an awesome hour
By far better than anything I’ve seen on TV in the last five years.
Thank you.
I am so glad my wife is napping right now. I am locked into this video. The information and the sights you all are sharing is amazing.
Thanks for taking us along. Thanks for showing 42,000 people (at the time of this writing) how to be good steward of the land that have been left to us. Thanks for building the network of like minded people to participate in your craziness. THAN YOU!
Great video, didn't feel 50 min long. Great job 👊
Thanks brother 👊. I'm suprised you watched it considering we all just got home lol.
Nate thanks for the knowledge you share. Like not turning on lockers on driving on soft snow etc, things I note.
Good video
Freaking awesome. The burb was a snow plow. You all earned every minute of fun.
I prefer the term "snow tractor." 👍
I am so glad I clicked on this video! That intro just hooked me instantly. The editing, cinematography, music, everything was top notch.
Heck yeah. Big fan of Jason and David.
Glad you were here for it, friend.
I know everybody has said it already and I’m two days late, but there is nobody on CZcams in my opinion who can tell these off-roading and overlanding stories like you do. I never skip a second.
I envy the way you tell these stories. I’m even a little jealous at how good you are at telling these stories being a videographer myself. Keep it up man. I’ll always be watching!
Boys getting together and having fun with their toys ! Amazing
The algorithm brought me here for some reason. And even though this isn't the usual content I watch, I enjoyed all 50 minutes of it.
Nate!!! That was EPIC man! High five to you and the guys with you.
Thanks!
Beautifully put together. Exciting, immersive, even emotional. This was a joy to watch, brother! I got chills from the thrill of adventure!
Quality video, quality people. Thanks for the great example of hard work (cutting a bazillion logs), good attitude, and camaraderie.
Words can not describe how much im in love with that suburban.
Absolutely a trip that you'll never forget, I wish I were about 30 yrs. younger I would love to have done this with you guys! Beautiful mountains, great friends, Gods country most definitely! I loved every minute of it, CONGRATULATIONS FELLAS! 😃
Looks like quite an adventure! I love that suburban!
It's a personal fave.
That old diesel Chevy is a beast!!
I live in beautiful Washington state, Working on a 2006 Xterra off road right now for overlanding off road adventure, just did overall maintenance, now working on suspension modifications. Excited to get back off roading after selling the Tacoma TDR (over 400,000 miles on it) a few years ago. Thanks for all your work clearing a beautiful off-road route!
Absolutely 100% no doubt the best offroad film I've seen on CZcams. This trip looked Absolutely amazing! I couldn't even imagine what it was like to partake in. Trips like this is what I would love to be able to do more. Thank you so much for creating this channel and allowing us to vicariously take this trip with you.
Completed this on my bike earlier last month. Thanks much to you guys for putting in so much work! Such a beautiful journey, and a very good representation of that journey put to video.
"This feels awful" that's hilarious.
So glad you guys went and cleared out all the dead trees on the road thank you thank you thank you.
Love to see the Squarebody! I'm building ours with David's rig as a basic template.
Ours will be a little more overland focused though.
Another great episode!
Do you know what the specs are on the Suburban?
@@xmo552 not exactly, but the owner of Offroad Design owns it. It's well documented on his website.

dude, I had never heard of BDR before, but now I am SO excited to check it out. the New England trail basically goes right through my entire family's backyards. awesome video. thanks, Nate!
That was a beast of a trip !!
That's real off-road done with style !!
never watched an hour long video. EVER !!! till now. thank you. had me puckered up on multiple occasions. great fun, great friends. THAT WAS FUN !!!!
What an awesome trip!! Good friends and good times should be counted as priceless, and you all showed that.
Thank you Nate, for an inspiring video, this was well worth the watch. Thank you Jason, David, and Jake for teaming up with Nate to visit a beautiful part of America, for all the hard work, and for showing and exemplifying good stewardship of public land.
To all of you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. It is so encouraging to see friendship like this. Now it’s off to the garage to wrench on our Jeep!!
This was one of this best videos of this genre I’ve seen. Awesome scenery and cinematography and really captured the challenges of a trip like this not just focusing single obstacles. The vehicles look great and it’s pretty clear there’s lots of experience in th group
Watching this from Australia.
Props to whomever was running alongside Big Blue in the mud at 46:00 keeping the winch line out of the tire while he smashed through the mud hole. Strong effort, nice work!!
First video I’ve watched of yours and it didn’t disappoint. Those breakfast burritos looked awesome by the way lol
It’s always crazy to easily drive through an area that, in different weather/trail conditions, was a war zone of recovery and chainsawing. Much appreciated to you guys for helping clear the route this year, we followed about a month later and cruised right through many of those areas!!
If you complete a 600 mile trail, you’re a legend
Looks like an epic trip... hope to do one on the Appalachians at some point in my ZJ. The west coast sure is beautiful though!
Awesome - thank you for taking us along!! Best video I have seen in a while!!
That was an accomplishment getting through there that early this year. We did the Lolo Motorway in July and I'm fairly certain we were the first full sized rig to get through at least the higher east end.
Dude this is one of or top 5 of your best videos ! Thank you and if there is a opening in the future for one of these trips ........
Thank you 🙏
I really enjoyed this video. The west truly has an enviable resource in public lands. Here in the east, it's a never-ending challenge to find good places to explore and enjoy.
I kept on finding myself wanting the hit the like button over and over again during this video. So good!
That suburban is awesome. This was such a great trip. I’ve been through Washington a few times and it’s a beautiful state.
Why do so many people run those Patagonia’s though? I’ve ran them and thought they were terrible and they did not look great here especially half worn on the JK.
It's awesome seeing your truck put through it's paces out on the trails. Knowing all the work you put into it is paying off. Anything you're going to change/improve after using it so much?
This is bad ass. Shout out to all of y'all for clearing out the trails
Love the Chevy Diesel.
Spent 10 years in the Army as an Artillerymen with our M109 SP Howitzer. The doozie was a M110 whee the barrel weighed 6 tons and driving those bad boys in snow covered trails @0dark 30 in the mountains of Germany and Europe with ammunition lol .
Any vehicle that had a working heater was the chow hall .
Great to be watching y’all’s off road adventure and the trailblazing to clear the trails .
I'll pre-order a loaf a butts only. You can't tell if you make your sandwich butts in..
lol I'm glad you enjoy the butt jokes as much as i do 🤣
Nate you amaze me hard working and never a dull moment
Awesome thanks for pumping out the content lately 🙌🏽
I lived in the Ellensburg are for around 10 year, and just loved it. So much outdoor activities it endles. Plus the beauty is bar none. Thanks for clearing and cleaning.
I havent had a video inspire me to explore my back yard as much as this in so long. Thank you. You reminded me just how much fun you can have exploring in just my 4wd
this is possibly the best scenery, postcard perfect location, probably the best I've seen you visit yet. too bad camper couldn't come on the hike. makes me want to come to America and see all the glorious nature you have. you are blessed.
As you have already been told...Great Video. My kid just got stationed up in WA and she hooked me into the overlanding trips. I am now going to plan to take the same run. Hopefully without as many trees. I appreciate what you guys did last year. These videos are inspiring. Don't lose site of that. Cheers
Love my Powerstop brakes and Rotors on both of my rigs
Epic... The joys of being the first through trail sections...something to be said for that even though it can be grueling.
Absolutely love this! Trails + good friends = epic memories!!
EPIC! Y'all rocked it and we appreciate you!
Beautiful
Brutal
Challenging
Thrilling
Thanks for taking us along!
Seeing you cut those fallen trees had my heart pumpin' . Because there can be stored energy in them, they can spring back at you before finishing your cut. That and a sharp running chainsaw. Definitly not a place to call the medics. Just wanted to say this in case someone else wants to go out on an adventure like this. Great video, I particularly enjoyrd the snow scenes with the undercarriage.
Halfway through this epic. Already some cheek clentchers, some laughs and a whole lot of inspiration. Thank you Nate and the team!
Did this trail back in 2019 when I said goodbye to living in WA. What a trail. Now out here exploring Colorado and love it!
damn good story! Nate, you nailed on this one. Super fun to watch. Thanks for sharing.
I enjoyed the trail line decisions and the use of traction boards , winches etc. those are the butt puckermoments you an experienced trail guide/ buddy who can get you Thru safely. Cinematography was on point.
Wow, great video Nate! The amount of work you guys put into clearing the trails is impressive. Thanks for opening it up for the rest of us to enjoy. Cheers!
I finally sat down to watch this video and I was not disapointed. I enjoy the company you keep and the adventures you have.
Your ability to tell the story of an incredible trip, is as impressive as your ability to put together your rigs. Thanks for sharing this with us. You put together a great crew of guys for this trip too.
What absolute awesome adventure, better than most movies. You guys our work horses. Thank you for sharing! What a beautiful trip. So cool!
The "burb" was/is AWESOME/badass!!!
It's my fave. I never got tired of it after all these years.
Wow. What an absolutely incredible trip! That was an incredible video to watch. Great footage, great teamwork, and nothing but the best memories. Also, amazing for you guys to be so prepared and clear almost all of that trail. Dedication to building a better overland/offroad community! Keep up the awesome videos
Thank you….got my sub with the trail clearing for us ADV/Dual sport motorbike riders. Truly appreciated!
Great adventure to watch, thanks for taking the time to document it. Brings back great memories of my dirtin adventures over the past 30 years up here in Alberta and BC. Thanks again!
This was intense but beautiful. I love snow thanks guys and be safe. Great smiles and great attitudes.
