  • Toad in a hole. Spit in the ocean. One-eyed jack. Eggy in a basket. Gashouse eggs. All names for one delightfully simple treat: an egg fried into a piece of toast. Follow along this week as we recreate the breakfast mainstay made famous by Mary Jane's Pa. And Moonstruck. And V for Vendetta, Moons Over Miami, Friends, The Meddlers, Lucifer, and Frasier.

      If you can find a workable schedule, then homemade bread as an occasional treat can be worthwhile.
      I say "workable schedule" and not "time" because making bread from scratch requires, at most, maybe 25 minutes total of actual work including cleanup. But it's all divvied up into micro-transactions, and you need to be available to handle each of them when the time comes. It's a good accompaniment to a spring-cleaning or binge-watching kind of day.
      So yeah, if it works with your schedule, it's a few minutes of actual work, very little financial investment, and great results*.
      *After your fourth attempt. Even if you measure by weight, which you definitely should, it takes experience to get the hang of it.

  • @mythirdchannel
    @mythirdchannel Před 6 lety +82

    your loaf looked dope :) and in baking it is better to measure, since most often, with flour, people tend to pack their volume measurements, when mostly you'd actually want a "fluffed" cup of flour ... and not a dense and packed one ... as oppose to when you weigh it, odds are for less of an effect on your measuring error.

    • @yogawarriorgirl
      @yogawarriorgirl Před 6 lety +2

      I was wondering about that. I measure by volume all the time and never have any trouble because I sift/spoon my flour into the cup and level it with a knife. And I just trust that a softer dough is better than a stiff one for a good sandwich loaf, and when I'm in doubt, I let it rise a whole lot longer, or else add eggs. Or other tricks, like using orange juice. Poor Babish.
