  • Join Basically editor Amiel Stanek as he attempts to cook an egg in almost every way possible. Which method is the best? Can there be a best method? What does 'best' even mean? Who says what's best? Not us. They're all eggcelent (besides the ones that aren't).

I live on my sailboat, and I am a truck driver. It was great to see some of these "why would you" methods. When driving across the country 11 hours a day, I often cook my eggs in the microwave, egg cooker, and pressure cooker. I wondered many times if I could put them in a waffle iron or George Forman. Sometimes, it doesn't need to be good. It just needs to be edible in a hurry 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

11:29 As someone who was raised on microwave scrambled eggs that was probably the worst way to do it, it was more like a microwaved omelette. How my family dose it is, in a microwave safe bowl you add the egg and milk, mix it together and put it in the microwave for around a minute then take a fork and stir/scramble the egg and keep doing it till there's no raw/runny egg left and when its done this way it actually looks like scrambled egg plus you could add cheese to it as well.

When using the instapot, you have to be aware of where you are in reference to sea level. Takes less time at sea level to make an egg than when you live in the mountains. You can make perfect creamy eggs that way, just needs to be played with a little in terms of time.

One way I have been trying is a French style called Eggs Magda. They are full of butter, soft cheese and are not allowed to form much structure as they are cooked very low and are stirred constantly. Kind of a soft scrambled. Amazing on a piece of toast.

Bottom Line: Raw eggs may contain a type of pathogenic bacteria called Salmonella, which can cause food poisoning. However, the risk of an egg being contaminated is quite low." and salmonella, in general, can cause sickness, yes, but it is treatable, and not even with medicines since it doesn't need any, it just needs hydration" ☺️☺️

You can cook an egg directly in the coals, but you have to make a little hole in one of the ends and put the egg on the coals so that the hole is upwards. This way you avoid pressure buildup and the egg won't explode.

There are things you can put in there that would make it better. Though at that point, it is like Chawanmushi. It should be easy to find at least Shiitake, imitation crab meat, edamame, or shrimp to add in. Then you have a make shift Chawanmushi. If want more authentic flavor and taste? Make sure to have at least Ginkgo Nuts and some fish cake. Just don't go crazy with the nuts since some people may get allergic reaction when consuming too much.
