Fairfield Lake State Park - Day Trip 2023

Destination: Fairfield Lake State Park
Hiked: Nature Trail 2.25 miles
We loaded up the kids and the dog and headed a couple hours out of town to the last open weekend of Fairfield Lake State Park. It was a beautiful park and we are devastated that it is closing for good.
We headed to the trail head and started our hike. We found many stops along the way including logs to climb, water to play in, turtles to spot, and beaver markings all over.
After the trail, we decided to head to the boat ramp and take the kayaks out. It was way too windy and water too choppy to really be safe on the water, that was our first mistake. Second mistake, Nick had never paddled his new tandem kayak before and had many learning curves...unfortunately, his experience was a bit damp and cold.
We all had a great time and loved the park and so sad that it is closing for good. It is a beautiful treasure and so sad to see it go.
