Yes, rigging and animation tutorials would be wonderful!
Also, weight painting tutorial. That is a PAIN!
That would be really nice
This
I need help with rigging. I’m a fool with it.
Yes. I agree. My knowledge is a mess.
Look up Akeytsu. It has made rigging and weight-painting pretty much effortless and not tedious at all(looking at you Maya). It's some real next level stuff.
Yes rigging, animation, adding clothes and weight painting and exporting to game engines please.
You said it all, if Mr Abbitt can make these too, that would be awesome!
Everything A Aa just said yes plz! thanks Grant!!
PLEASE!!! you're the man, man!
You mean like this series by him?
czcams.com/video/aAO4C_8y0w8/video.html
It sounds like a dare )
The mannequin is very useful but you gave me some precious extra tips like double press on the axis and flip duplicates! Thanks a lot!
Glad to hear it :)
Ciao Synè, didn't think i'd find you here hehe
Tana per Synergo
Actually I find that myself while I was learning myself
Il nesso segreto tra Bruno Mattei, Umberto Lenzi e Blender. Non sapevo lo usassi, carramba
This is by far the best blender tutorial I’ve ever seen, you actually explain everything and show your keyboard shortcuts. Most people make a video but rush so quickly and skip steps but when I watched this I actually understood and can now understand blender. I appreciate it and I can now start making characters for my game
@bynezal lol I was going to create a 3d game but it was too big of a project so I created this 2d compilation of minigames so i didnt end up using the mdels
8:36 "S then Z twice".
OMG where have you been all my life?!
If people watch your videos and actually follow through with game designing they can make some serious cash doing it so for just putting this content out for free really means the world to people who cant afford it.
Keep going, you're the best! Your 2.8 videos got me back into 3D modelling.
nice :)
“You can press alt+z to enter wireframe mode”
GeForce Experience: sup bro?
mine alt+r don't work because of radeon driver
LOL
even though this is 3 years old this has been the most helpful tutorial i have seen outside of learning the basic shortcuts/how things work, i really appreciate it. gonna check out more of your stuff and hopefully make some low poly animations in the far off future
I love tutorials that treat me like a child. I understand every piece of information I'm getting. Thanks Grant!
thats a great way to put it, and I totally agree
This was the first video I watched for learning Blender, and I love it! It has been so useful for me. It also inspired me to share my own video about Blender From Scratch. I specifically enjoy the clarity with which you explain every step. You really helped me out big time!
My suggestion for future videos is a way to save and reuse animations in different projects reliably, I haven't seen much stuff about this.
And thanks for your tutorials, practicing this low poly modelling is making me lose the fear about Blender. It made me realize that there's in fact a bunch of folks who make very pretty art with simple models which is a relief because with more complex stuff my actual computer would explode HAHA.
The thing is I can confidently practice and refine my skill little by little and when I get a new and more powerful PC I'll be ready for the next level. I have used the excuse of "my PC is crap" in the past but now I see this "limitation" as positive as it motivates me to be creative.
good to hear :)
If anyone has problem mirroring the leg and arm. After Ctrl + A and setting rotation. Shift + D, X to drag it along and when you press 'S' also press "x-1" and it should mirror . (You can use X,Z,Y axis -1 to mirror also.)
That's very helpful, thanks !
This is simply one of the best tutorials out there. It's paced fast enough to not lose interest, with useful hints on shortcuts, their functions, and everything is communicated
In a clear well structured manner.
Grant, your tutorials are excellent - I'm a beginner-intermediate blender user and I love how your tutorials are clear and methodical, yet not patronizing. I don't feel disheartened by the skill gap, but empowered to put my own flavour into things. Thank you very much and greetings from Aotearoa New Zealand
Thanks very much :)
I love TF2 and after using a tool in GMOD to put on cosmetics I realized something.
They separate the torso, arms, legs and head to separate objects so they can be replaced with a different model for a cosmetic.
I would love a tutorial on this. To for example have one part of the torso whole, and another where it's blown open. Giving the ability to switch the two in game when hit with a rocket or a headshort.
The way they deal with headshots is a little funny. They shrink the head to a dot and add a separate model of a cut off neck on top. Or just leave the weird shrunken part as it is.
Making a whole model is great. But what about when you have multiple pants, chains and other clothing accessories to one model? Or cutting their arm off.
And they have to model and rig it all so it's connected somehow so the arm doesn't separate from the shoulder in some animation glitch but being connected AND being able to switch it out instantly when needed..
some very good questions here which i often wonder about myself. I will need to do a fair bit of research myself first :)
@@grabbitt Thanks for your dedicated response, looking forward to anything you do.
Grant is the Bob Ross of Blender. The skills at Blender, the tone and tempo of the instruction .... all add up to tutorials set at a high bar!
Thanks :)
Grant, I've a general modeling question, and forgive me if I get the terminology wrong -- I've just started learning 3d....: All the parts that get merged, i.e. the neck with the head, do the hidden areas still retain their geometry, i.e. do they still add to the overall poly count, or are they really merged with each other?
@@MikeHalk100 it depends how you merge them. But generally yes they are still counted
Yes, I would love a second part of this on how to rig and animate the model!
You're the Bob Ross of 3D Art.
Your clarity, detailed and concise instructions of tools and steps, cadence, and flow all make learning approachable and fun.
Thanks for doing this for humanity.
I'm glad you exist.
Your tutorials are just so so easy to understand for a begginer like me it's like I am attending a University class for editing eveeytime I watch your tutorials, I just noticed that I find it really happy when I am editing and I am also planning to learn animating btw I am planning to add some persons beside the Well that I am doing right now with the tutorial that you made and incorporate this tutorial there ❤
Blud is my savior, I am making a low poly 3D Open world Wild West game and this really helps me THANK YOU!
Much better than CG geeks video honestly, keep up the AMAZING work
Thanks :)
This is just what I was looking for!!! I taught myself how to swim by jumping into the deep end not by continuing padding in the shallow end of the pool. Thanks for this.
all of your tutorials are so wonderful and helpful I really can't thank you enough. Something in particular that I really appreciated was how you explained how to fix the duplicated arm. It was SO clear why it went wrong and how to fix it because of your explanation. The little things like that can trip up a noobie so easily so I think its great you pay close attention to stuff like that. Thanks a million.
I have to say.. this is the best Blender channel by a mile. Because of you I'm getting very much into it. What appeared daunting a few years ago when I quit before I began with Blender, now looks pretty simple. Thank you. Once I finish my first animation, drinks are on me.
nice :)
Sorry, I should add thank you this. As a game programmer who can't likes to have placeholders/grey boxing in place, these techniques of making low polygon, quick models allows me to add a better 'feel' to my games I can see in the future before paying for the proper assets.
Thanks :)
Ive been trying to model simple characters for a while, and this was the first tutorial that really helped me
As someone who can draw, I can say that, while you def CAN go without a reference, It takes some getting used to and if you're new at this like me, just use a reference.
13:47 for the timelapse. Thank you so so much! You sparked my interest with modeling anatomy and physiology!
Excellent walk through Grant. I was able to create a decent version of the low poly person. More importantly it helped to get more comfortable with how to manipulate the model. I appreciate you taking the time and being so detailed.
thanks :)
Today: How to create low poly person..
Tomorrow: How to rig and animate (please make this happen. Thanks!)
i'll do my best :) it will be a very basic guide though :)
And then comes the tutorial
the Day after Tomorrow: How to make a feature film and make like billions of $$$$$$$$$$! Yessss! Profit!
He has a character rig tutorial series. Going from modeling the model, to rigging, weight painting and finally animating.
For more effective modeling and game models look at his Blender Plank Sculpt tutorial. It's great and one of my favorites
The explanations are wonderful but I've found it helpful to watch you do the process once and THEN, attempt it myself while watching you again. Much less failure rate and I make notes for the new commands introduced.
I spend so much time on this and although I'm not an immediate new user this helped so much in getting used to keybinds and getting faster at manipulating shapes. Thanks so much!
I litterally just made my first low poly figure yesterday and NOW this video is shown to me. I'm still gonna wacth this of course, but WOW the timing!!
Many Thanks, Grant - top quality, as always.
Super impressive to see the way you're growing this channel.
Keep going, mate - 250K subs is only a matter of time.
Thanks :)
very clear to understand and pleasant to listen to
Thanks 😀
Thank you for, clear, simple, no nonsense instructions! High quality!
Thanks :)
This video was good because it contained only what was needed :)
Thanks :)
I didn't know about clicking the shortcut a second time to change the axis, noice !
This was a very useful tutorial.
you explained it in a organized and calm way with not redoes that make new users get lost.
Some new things that I did not know and will use in the future.
Thank you for the effort.
This video was perfect for me where I was at with Blender and having a base mesh. Thank you.... Everything from not doing every stop in the tut to the way you present it - great job.
This is far and away the most helpful blender tutorial I've used so far. Thanks for this ^_^
Thanks :)
The scale -1 mirror function is something I have been wondering how. Thank you for the tutorial.
That is so crazy but I downloaded the exact same reference image before seeing that you did! Fantastic tutorial series, this is really detailed and helpful!
This is the best course so far for create a Low Poly 3D Character, many thanks !
Thanks
This what I was looking for! Thank you so much, sir! Please keep on making new videos on Blender 2.8! Looking forward for rigging and animation too!
Thanks :)
Thank you so much for uploading, creating good base mashes has always been one of my biggest Problems in Blender. Almost all tutorials for that are from earlier versions than the 2.8 , so thank you a lot.
Thanks :)
Beginner here, and I highly appreciate your channel. Thank you!
Thanks :)
@@grabbittyour relaxing voice is easy to listen to as well.
This guy's a legend I swear
a pile of dogshit to a starving man may seem like a kings feast
This and also some rigging and animation would be perfect as a whole.
Thank you for a clear and concise presentation of modelling a simple humanoid form. Very helpful.
I'm a traditional sculptor, true 3D in clay etc., the correct name for what you are making is a 'Marquette' (a sculptor's small preliminary model or sketch) a manakin is a tailors dummy.
Q; What is the best way to duplicate / save separately as I want to use a more detailed base mesh to create a male, female and child. i.e. open each one in a separate UI or have them all in the same UI but the others hidden? Thanks Great tuts by the way!
Probably as you say. All in one file and you can put them in different collections
Hey!
Been using your channel loads for modelling tutorials and it's amazing! Thankyou :D
Thanks A Lot!!, Also This Tutorial is what Dani Used For Karlson So Double Thanks!!

Love your tutorials!!!
Thanks 😃
We all want to see more from you about everything really :) you tutorials are that good. Cheers.
Thanks :)
Also rigging and animation would make me feel better
A well made video - explained every little step whilst being intuitive, thank you.
Grant, you're really the best teacher, thank you!
Thank you for these, you are a true inspiration Grant!
Your videos got me into modeling and I made a promise to myself that I will not disappoint such a great mentor! Kudos to you sir!
Thanks :)
please show the rigging process for this one! your tutorials are by far one of the easiest to follow and more encouraging ones!
will do :)
been doing this on and off for 5 years and didn’t know you could do S+Z+Z to scale in local
Ya truly never stop learning
To make bringing in a ref image easier, place the 3d cursor at the center of the world, then go into orthographic mode, drag the image in and it will be standing upright, facing front.

Heya, Grant. After learning about barrels and tables, I'm gonna try my hand at this humanoid figures. This is actually fun.
Very useful tutorial, perfect for coders who want a simple model for prototypes and gamejams
Thanks :)
Oh my god this is the one i have waiting for, thankyou
Just finished the low poly person getting ready to put the bones in I have a good idea on the bones also learning from Alimayo Arango who also is a very good well spoken and understanding, thank you a whole lot.
Thanks :)
Great Video! For a while now I have been wanting to make my own video game but I needed to know code and how to model, so I spent probably a month trying to make something good but I never used a character turn around and since I have been learning blender for a month or two I am slightly more advanced but this helped a lot to get me started on the art aspect of the game. Again thanks a lot!
I've been looking for a good tutorial on this...thanks so much for sharing this process. Your videos are well thought out and easy to understand...and that's why I'm a subscriber...I don't want to miss any.
Thanks :)
I've been avoiding trying to make my own models but you got me reconsidering
In the render at the beginning of the video the character had 3 shadows. I would reccomend turning off casting shadows for 2 of the 3 lights that you had, so that the even lighting is the same but there is only one shadow (Like in real life).
Thanks for all of you tutorials, I really appreciate it :) It helps me a lot on how to understand Blender and create things. Greetings from Argentina :)
Thanks :)
this opened my eyes
Brilliant. I can't thank you enough for your time and dedication.
Lots of love my man it works
Like!!! This character can be used as a reference in grease pencil animation!
good point :)
so far the only thing I never new is copy the hand and arm ctlr + A copy rotation amazing and shift + G move it in place than S for scale press X then -1 and move it in place, genius.

Just completed the mannequin. Thanks Grant!
And just realized this is my first “character.”
Yo thanks dude this one is the best totorial I've found!
This is super awesome, Thanks for this tutorial, this is going to be my artstyle for my indie game that im working on
🤩
i am just starting with blender and the tip to work with a photo is great ty
Id absolutely love if you did another collab with @Jayanam, where you take this fine low poly gentleman, export him to Unity3d, and then export the shield you guys made earlier into unity. Then, make a "pick up" animation for this low poly man, and have jayanam make a button press script, to have an animation play, where he picks up the shield, and attaches it to his hand. Or maybe where the character model changes to a different version holding the shield, after an animation of him bending down to pick it up plays. Itd be an awesome way to represent the flow of transitioning a blender model & animation, to unity as player character or npc. Itd show us better how to bring a blender project to unity, and make it interactable. The shield is already done, and that was an awesome set of videos, this would be a great sequel, for those seeking to animate & game design.
it could get complicated but we will hopefully do some more stuff together soon :)
thank you!
your advice with duplicating made it clear to me now)
They look fantastic, im not new, but not a pro so this will make a great exercite and a fine piece to my colection
